Have you looked at the other options Sparhawk? Didn't think so, if you really want to know why we vote Cons every election look at the Liberals and NDP, do we REALLY want such pathetic excuses for existances run our province? Of course not, we actually have principles out West and don't like crooks =) PS Where I live and where my relatives live (Lethbridge and Calgary area) there is ALOT of seperatist power, all my friends are seperatist (I really do mean all, including a Liberal friend of mine haha) and we are talking about holding some meetings for the Lethbridge area seperatists (since currently they are mainly in Calgary and I am a College student, and broke) IMT, I think you need to get out of your computer room a bit more and notice the Alberta around you. You live in the wrong part of the country dude
-
Not necessarily, since without Ontario dominating the political spectrum the average Albertan would get a voice. Taxation without representation is the most common complaint I am hearing these days. Seperation. LOL nothing has changed in Ottawa other than we now have minority governments pushing through insanely controversial legislation without even breaking a sweat. That to me is disgusting and vile, not democratic at all.

Albertans accused of red-neck & anti-gay
Hawk replied to mirror's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
'Alberta isn't red-neck and anti-gay. Only our government is.' Whats yours? I guess you don't like to answer to your own point form? Possibly, oh wait its not because your an Albertan =) Sorry. Oh, and I was implying more that Edmonton has always been the most Liberal place in Alberta and, thus far, has had the most gay marriages. -
Who will replace PM Martin as Liberal leader?
Hawk replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It makes no difference when or how, the Liberal party has become essential the Canadian image. If you aren't a Liberal socialist you aren't Canadian, rather you are a red-neck bigot alcoholic. Its really sad. I consider myself and the rest of Alberta that are current-day conservatives to be the true Canadians, since we still hold truer to the values of our founding fathers and their succeeding generations than the rest of Canada that is so eager to change everything we know. Progression is not always a good thing =p As for Martin not winning a majority, if you recall it was doubtful he would win anything at all. I mean with all the crap Chretien pulled at the end of his rule I couldn't believe they still won, although I guess that would explain why people are still willing to vote for this pathetically corrupt piece of sh*t even after the Gomery Inquiry. For some reason TV has rotted the brains of most people in Ontario (exluding those who voted Conservative, including my relatives ) -
Albertans accused of red-neck & anti-gay
Hawk replied to mirror's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Over 90% of the people I know are anti-gay, and about 60% of those people haven't lived on a farm in their lives (and I have lived here 18 years in the same Lethbridge and surrounding area) Of course, you ARE from Edmonton, which explains alot -
Alberta waves white flag over SSM
Hawk replied to Black Dog's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
BD, you basically said exactly what IMT said. Please refer to my reply to him for my rebuttal as I don't want to rehash the same answer for the same question (aka 'then he should get another job etc') -
Albertans accused of red-neck & anti-gay
Hawk replied to mirror's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
What is this? Another completely slanted poll? LOL I find it funny I either have to admit I am a redneck or admit I am not anti-gay, good job =p Fortunately, I haven't even voted on it unless it gets edited to better allow a proper answer. Also in regards to that article, it is true. 5 marriages in total, 3 in Edmonton, 1 in Calgary, and 1 from someplace (dunno where it was at) so far. Frankly it doesn't surprise me Haha I just remember something, me and my friend were talking about this during work and I was like 'I give it 1 month before they are divorced' and he countered me with 'I give it 1 month before they are dead' I got a good laugh out of that one, because its true that in Alberta the gay community is on very very thin ice. I am not that fanatic (till some gay couple tries to take someone I know to court at least hehe), but I won't deny that there are those who are Tradition is precious, especially in a society where slowly but surely our traditions are being killed one at a time... I personally don't like people trampling on the traditions of my ancestors, especially when the majority is obviously on my side. -

Hawk replied to Black Dog's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
LoL gotta love the dissection of sentences, you do know that is not a very convincing way to put a point across right? Lemme show you why... Are you implying you agree with communism? Oh, so now you admit people can get jobs... nice, how kind of you to give them the 'freedom' to go and find a job. Wow, great going dude. Willing to do what? I don't understand o.0 Haha, now do you see why it is pathetic to tear apart sentences? Because 1) it lengthens the reply in a manner that is not needed and 2) because you can lose focus on what is even being discussed... not to mention you can draw in any conclusion you want, not the one the poster had. Now the ACTUAL reply to that 'point' is this. Where in the civil servants job description does it say 'you must do everything we tell you, because you are a robot and must now ignore your concience for the good of the government.'? See? You cut my sentence in half... tsk tsk. 1% < 99%. That is my only answer. Of course not, that is why they will continue to do their jobs, just not in a manner that violates their freedoms. At least not in Alberta =) No because that example is terrible, the mormon has no grounds (religious or otherwise) to not make a caffeine beverage. Mormons are merely not allowed to personally consume caffeine. Not to mention comparing something as contested as SSM to Starbucks is just... well, sad. Because you are ignoring my previous 2 questions that directly affected the answer to the question you actually did answer. Read it and you will find out what I mean. -

Then eliminate all government-funded unions, they could strike. But you are right, they SHOULD uphold the laws of the land. However are you suggesting the government is always right? Are you suggesting that regardless of your moral obligations you should simply ignore them and do what you think is wrong simply because the government told you so? If not then how far are you willing to go with this? Because I have been studying Russian and German history lately and that exact mentality was at the forfront of both revolutions, that the government knows best and you damn well better toe their line. -

Wha? I hate to break this to you but those conditions also exist in Canada, its just that the CBC doesn't get paid to show you the truth But hey, I guess your right about the prisons, I mean heck we have criminals that intentionally commit crimes to get thrown back into prison... simply because it is warm and they get treated better than if they were out in the real world... only in Canada do we treat our prisoners better than our law-abiding citizens. LoL by 'boosting our military' do you mean the promises of the Liberal government to increase funding? You do know the two are different right? I mean, I still remember Chretien promising the same thing, just before he bought us useless submarines from the Brits =p You have no comprehension of how destroyed our military is, read up on it. Currently it is estimated that with a full military budget the Canadian Armed Forces would not be fully repaired to post-WW2 status within 60 years. Read 'Who killed the Canadian Military?' by J.L. Granatstein for some interesting facts and figures. What will also surprise (and probably please) you is that not all the blame is placed on the Liberals Oh but how he bashes Trudeau, makes my heart skip a beat. But he bashes Mulroney as well so its all good. We have no national anything, I mean heck our country's name is even a casualty of our mixed society. There is no unity, we are a flimsy coalition of different cultures all beating against each other for supremacy while an ignorant government tries to best one over the other under the pretense of 'protection'. That is not unity, and that is not nationalism. Our immigrants retain their loyalties to their respective mother/fatherlands and even most of our second+ generation Canadians do the same. Americans salute the same flag, they have loyalty for the same country, and they don't care what nation you came from because once you are American you are American. We were good once, long ago. Now, after decades of Liberal rule, we are nothing more than a shell of a country well on our way to complete collapse of the Confederation or Communist revolution (think about it, and look up Marx's 10 Planks of Communism). Neither of which helps Canada in any way. -
VLTs might be paying, but not nearly as much as our taxes =p Not to mention that we all know the Reserves are the capitol of gambling

Any civil servant that is unwilling to do his/her job should be replaced by someone that is. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A civil servant is still a human, and in my society that entitles him to protection from people like you that would rather use the government to stomp down the majority in addition to his own personal beliefs. Or do you suddenly not care about personal beliefs and the importance of them being protected in a free society? Is your society only allowed to be free when it suites your own beliefs? Does that not sound resoundingly elitist? -
Or too busy sitting on bar stools or vlt stools spending $$$, anyway. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> LoL yeah dam those Westerners and their drinking... I mean, we are drunk half the time, dumber than a dime, and gamble our lives away. Yet we still are the richest province in Canada =p All I can say is this... pwnt PS Calgary owns, I have alot of family there and visit it a few times per year

LoL well all I can say is, I WILL ALWAYS DRINK MOLSEN CANADIAN Damn Coors, damn them all But on a serious note, I really don't have a problem with the USA... I mean, less taxes, better political system, military that can actually defend me (wait, it already has to hahahaa), and a culture of national pride and unity (aaahh, the beauty of the boiling pot) Frankly, I would love to be Albertan for the rest of my life, without the Feds of course. But if it comes down to it I will merely laugh my @$$ off at the shock of the rest of Canada if we get annexed, and laugh even harder at all the Dems that border jumped after the last US election waking to find themselves in the States again Its ironic, Eastern Canadians are so anti-American but refuse to have a military capable of even putting up a slight resistance =p Ah well, as I said I wouldn't fight the USA. Its pointless and I have too many friends on both sides of the border -
I believe in the seperation of church and state, hence I believe the government should not ban prayer (a religious practice) from anywhere. I find it ironic that a nation that will redefine marriage for 1% of our population and also force the education (aka 'Enlightenment') of our children in all manner of controversial things (SSM, Evolution, etc) using the public system, can honestly and with a straight face condemn those that are simply trying to practice their religion. The road I see most of you treading down now leads to the complete isolation and discrimination of religious people from any public area, simply to be 'understanding' and 'tolerant' of other people's beliefs. Well I say why can't others be 'understanding' and 'tolerant' of the religious people's beliefs? Why is it religion is always the one that has to give ground? And please, for the sake of both of us, don't bring up bad religious history.. because that is one damnably dead horse. But heck with it, do what you want

Hawk replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in News and Announcements
I would come, but I live on the other side of the country xD -
Wow, 1/4 of your post and not a word to say that adds to the conversation... yep, that is certainly a 'eureka' kind of post =) Oh really? That is fascinating, how about some quoting to back that up? I really don't see this 'destruction' of his arguments anywhere in this thread in fact =o As far as I can tell he spelled out almost all the major problems with our system, and nicely pointed out how the American system is superior (again, there is obviously more but what he did point out was adequate) Enlighten us if we are wrong, otherwise take the point loss and don't address it. LoL wow, half your post is nothing and the other half... well, I am still trying to figure out what you were trying to prove.

Jesus would support gay marriage bill: Senator
Hawk replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Because some Christians believe the old laws were no longer required as Jesus had become the perfect sacrifice, therefore following the strict rules and procedures for redemption was no longer necessary (eating certain things were unclean etc etc) That is not selectivity, it is the result of centuries of scriptural debate and study. Not everyone agrees, but it has been commonly accepted that Leviticus should be taken with a grain of salt by most Bible-based religions. As for Kimmy's post, good job dude, you got some 1337 researching skills Yes, the New Testament does not have God directly say 'you cannot be be having man on man relations and be a Christian' but his apostles say it, and if his apostles say it you can be damnably sure it is the truth. You don't hold Paul's views with much credibility???? Please, don't speak anymore. Read his story and then judge, of course his conversion doesn't erase his previous actions. Heck, the guy despised his own actions and spent his entire life trying to atone for them (knowing full well he couldn't). That is one of the reasons he was probably one of the greatest Apostles, he had been on the other side and he was driven by the fact he knew God had forgiven him for being on that side. Also keep in mind Paul was crucified upside down for being a Christian, I don't doubt his word or his credibility... as it doesn't appear his enemies had any doubt whatsoever. Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Greatness means little, and loving your neighbor as yourself means love the person... it does not mean accept and/or love the sin as well. I have no problem with gay people, I think they have a mental illness but if they refrain from the act of homosexuality they are perfectly ok. Otherwise they can't be called Christian. Period. -
Fair enough: Conservative Debt to 2 people: 1,600 campaign contribution (supposedly) Liberal Debt to society: Billions and rising So tell me again how the Conservatives are so corrupt?

Their kind should be hunted down and killed to the man/woman, they should NEVER be glorified, rationalized, or supported by any sane right or left winger.

Jesus would support gay marriage bill: Senator
Hawk replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Agreed not all things should be interpretted from Leviticus, hence why we aren't out hunting down and stoning gay people. However I am going to be fairely safe in assuming his stance hasn't changed on the whole issue since he commanded the priests in that manner =p Love the sinner, hate the sin. -
How is that any different than it is now? =p But I agree that the general population should not vote on everything, but I do think our political system should be more in line with the USA system (I abbreviated why in my previous post)

You obviously are talking about a different Liberal party, we ARE discussing the Liberals that have, for the last decade, been involved in all manner of scandals and under-the-table deals? Oh, and lets not forget the media outlets trying to gloss it over and the universities and colleges trying to rationalize their behavior. Again, we must be talking about different parties No, but actions speak louder than words, louder even than written words. Liberals have shown their true colors countless times throughout history, they are elitist and gain power by convincing the people they are interested in helping when they are merely interested in personal gain. Nobody that has morals could stomach a true Liberal, let alone be one. Again, the Liberals have proven they have no principles, get over it and stop being delusional. Turn the other cheek applies to Christians who are persecuted for Christ's sake, read the context of that passage. I do know though that Jesus would certainly be against appeasing a group of sadistic people who themselves have killed thousands, there is nothing wrong with defending yourself and in the case of a government, your people. That doesn't really matter, since the FACT is that Jesus does not approve of it while the majority of Liberals do. I also find it funny that the right-wing gets called religious extremists but now you are defending that Jesus, the head of the largest religion on the planet, was in fact a left-winger hahahahaaa. He cleaned out the temple because they turned it into a market, read the scripts before using them to support your arguments. Not to mention he himself said, "give unto caesar the things which are caesar's, and unto God the things which are God's", does that sound like someone against anyone who abused their power? The religion existed long before he was born, his birth was prophesied by the Jewish Prophets. Most Liberals are secular and against any influence of religion in government, how is that compatible with the same God that had the Israelites build temples to him and guided their kings (that listened to him anyways haha)? He taught in the temples from the Old Testament, therefore he obviously supported it. After his death all that changed was redemption and sacrifice was no longer needed for atonement, that doesn't change the fact the Old Testament speaks against homosexuality. So until I read somewhere in the New Testament that 'Thou shalt sleep with other members of the same sex as thou heart desirest, for my son sacrificed his life that ye may do this' I am gonna stick with the un-challengable assumption God's original take on homosexuals remains unchanged. -
And where should we jump... from the pan to the fire ?? Until you have a better solution that what we have, you probably should not make any moves... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I personally support the American system, I like how the Senate is elected and the MPs are all able to vote according to how their ridings (aka the people) want them to vote WITHOUT the threat of a party whip disciplining them. Not to mention the fixed election dates, checks and guards on Presidential power, and the list goes on. The parliamentary system can't work, it is destined to fail
-
It is a noble sentiment but impractical in our parlimentary system where no confidence votes can force an early election. The primary reason the US system gives representatives more freedom is the fact that the president stays in power for 4 years even if his entire party votes against him.The party system infiltrates the entire parlimentary system which means that simply eliminating non-confidence votes would not solve the problem. For example, the party brass pick which MPs go on which committees - they will only pick MPs that are willing to toe the party line. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly, hence why I have stated several times we need a new system. Our system is outdated and not able to adequately serve a nation as diverse and vast as ours. If our system doesn't change soon then the breakdown of the Confederation will most certainly be a 'when' question as opposed to an 'if'.
