RE Student Loans and Grants Nice wet dream, now how would that be implemented without causing even more deficit? And more importantly, where would the money come from in the first place? I suggest if we were to alleviate the financial load on post-secondary students we should first make it a level playing field (a truly level playing field) and eliminate minority advantages (such as first-nations free education etc) that taxpayers are currently forking out for. Give a global reduction to tuition and make all students pay the same, why should minorities be priviledged in such a fashion? Eliminating such advantages reduces racism, descrimination, and also decreases taxpayer dollars being wasted. This could then be channeled either back to the people or used to furthur reduce tuition costs.

I have been criticizing Chretien's governement for not keeping their word in repealing the GST since shortly after they came to power. Incidently, I voted for the Libs after the Mulrony government crumbled, but have not repeated that mistake since then. But, the Liberals didn't need to use the GST, or anything else anything to oust Mulrony, he did it to himself. I have two major regrets with that. Firstly, he took the entire Conservative party down with him, and they may never recover. We needed the PC's to keep the Liberals in check, and vise-versa. Second, by doing so, and then handing over the reins of power shortly before an election, he ruined the career of what's-her-name. Oh yeah, Kim Campbell??? Was that her name??? She had brains (and looks), and had a future as a contender in the political arena. Mulrony screwed her career totally. Now, instead of being a might-have-been, she's been consigned to the back pages of political history as a never-was. Our first female Prime Minister. Given a chance, she may have been a GREAT pm. Now, we'll never know, simply because Mulrony didn't have the guts to stay where he was and take the spanking he so richly deserved. He jumped overboard like a rat off a sinking ship. Thank you Mr Mulrony. Well said, however keep in mind we aren't discussing should-haves about past political parties... I also agree that Mulroney messed up, but was he corrupt and did he lie? I was defending him on that basis, since the poster I was addressing seemed to think he was in some way comparable to the Fiberal government =p

Mulroney created the GST as a replacement tax that was needed at the time, isn't it ironic how the Liberals used it to oust the conservatives... yet as soon as they are ousted, whoops I guess we really DID need GST =p Funny how that works eh? As I recall Chretien promised he would 'repeal the GST', but that sure hasn't happened... and how many terms have they had again? Health Care is administerd by the provinces; The feds have given them the extra money. It is now the Provinces who must step up to the plate and spend the mney wisely. Fat Chance of that happening> ( When they want the money with "no strings attached" has a bit of a fishy smell) The Liberal minority government has only been in office a few months; what exactly do you expect? Miracles. The Liberals may not be perfect or even good but I am sure feeling safer than I would with someone like the Bush follower Harper at the helm. Ok 1. The Liberals have been in office for 5 terms now, and we are worse off than ever... is that what I expected? Yes, which is why I voted for Harper. Seriously, when the finance minister for a corrupt regime suddenly takes over the party MOST people would think for themselves and figure out that, hey, this isn't good.... but for some reason Fiberals can't wrap their minds around this, they seem to think that Martin is a 'new man' and so on. BS. 2. I have yet to see a single good supporting fact that proves Harper would be more dangerous/damaging to Canada than the Liberal party. Prove me wrong, I dare you. The end never justifies the means. If you are strong enough to walk to and steal from a store you are strong enough to work, the problem is people are too picky and/or lazy and refuse to. That is not our problem. It is their own fault they have hungry children, especially since they had children to begin with in their situation.

I believe that racism is a direct result of special treatment, get rid of the Indian act and make them a part of our society. Look at the Chinese, they basically built our nation through our railroads, and they dont have special reserves and whatnot... yet most of them are better off than me or any other white boy I know =o Its not about isolating them from the rest of Canada more and more or giving them more and more, you will never solve a problem that way. The only way to negate racism is to stop making their ethnicity or skin color matter, and you aren't going to accomplish that by making the differences more obvious with special treatment.

Personally I never liked Stephen Harper much... I totally supported Stockwell Day however, in fact I can't believe he got voted out. He was very firm on conservative issues and that is what in the end killed him. Its sick that in Canadian politics these days you are considered radical to even hold an opinion, its like if you aren't socialist you are a nazi. As for you that want to kick out Alberta, bring it on b*tches... you think we like being part of a confederation that treats us like that? Heck I love being Canadian but to be totally honest I have never felt connected with Eastern Canada (never even been there), I have never seen or met a Canadian PM, and I have never seen Western Canada be appreciated. To be totally honest with you it seems almost like Ontario is a seperate country than Alberta, here Ralph rules and he rules the way we like (and he does a dam good job of it, and now our debt is gone and we have a decent economy despite issues like the BSE crisis). In fact, I doubt I would notice if we seceded from Canada, what would change other than that we wouldn't have to pay so many taxes? What would change other than we could actually vote and our votes would count for something? What would change other than Alberta would have a stronger military than the rest of Canada? =p

I learn from my mistakes and the mistakes of my ancestors, appeasement NEVER WORKS. If a terrorist threatens my country, my family, or my friends I refuse to hide, wimper, and beg them to not do anything. I absolutely REFUSE to live my life in fear of some washed up afghani leader and by God I can't stand people who defend people that threaten our nation (yet call themselves Canadian) and who think that having a Canadian military or a capable CSIS is a radical right-wing ideology. Canada needs to step up to the plate, we once were a great nation that was respected worldwide by socialist and capitalists alike. However we have allowed ourselves to lose our place in the world, and I think its high time we at least ATTEMPTED to regain it. No we dont, and do you 'fear' the USA? I dont, I respect them. How often do you hear about Canada in a respectful light? By people that matter? Not nearly so much as the US. Simple fact of the matter, Canada lost its' status in international politics... and I want to get it back >=-D

Trudeau was definitely a monster, but I will give him credit for 'seeing the light' when it comes to Quebec seperation (since he WAS an activist in his early days)... but other than that he is responsible for destruction of the Canadian military even moreso than it already was in and breeding even more anti-Americanism for his own political gains. Not to mention his pathetic economic policies.

I would have to disagree, the rest of the world may not like the Americans as much as they like us.. but they have alot more respect for the USA than they do for Canada, and you may want to be 'liked' but I definitely prefer respected All we have now is pity status with a little sympathy on the side =p

Nobody would come to Canada's aid, because: 1) We would be conquered within a day 2) Even if we managed to hold out for a few days, the rest of the world would wait for 'UN approval' before doing anything.. the USA would veto everything, and since no nation on the planet except the USA dares to 'disobey' the UN we would be dead =p
