Albertans accused of red-neck & anti-gay
Hawk replied to mirror's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Would you rather me call them homosexuals and then beat them to death for being gay, or call them gay/queer and letting them live? You gotta look at the intent, the word is not important. Also, who says I am disrespecting them by using it? Respect is relative. -
Alberta's Conservative Government
Hawk replied to takeanumber's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
While we put away money without equalization other provinces were in massive deficits with nothing put away. I would say things worked out a bit better than you are giving credit for =p How can the government be held responsible??? Seriously that is ridiculous, the government should NOT be expected to meddle with every venue of life and try to control everything. If my child was molested by a teacher I would literally beat the teacher to death, because I know if he got to court he would get a slap on the hand and sent to rehab (peds CANNOT be rehabed yet people still proclaim rehab works, and the peds are continually released into our towns and cities to stalk children again) Again, place the blame where it lies, socialism and its acceptance of all evil under the veil of tolerance and understanding. You don't want your children getting molested? Give peds the death sentence or at least life (I mean the hardkore peds, the ones that look at dirty pics or touch places should merely be beaten daily for a few years for first offence. Then death if they give into their perversion again.) The USA has a single tier system, it is ALL private. What we are talking about is NOT the USA system it is a two-tier system, therefore do NOT use the USA as an example of anything. Listen to me carefully now, we will KEEP our CURRENT SYSTEM the way it is (you know, the heaven you seem to think it is) and it will remain UNSCATHED. However, we will open the POSSIBILITY for private practices and insurance companies SHOULD THE PEOPLE DESIRE THEM. Hence, you get your public healthcare still, so you don't break the bank if your poor and your nose bleed can still be taken care of in Emergency =p As for your deduction of my example, if my parents were going to die I would put myself in debt for life to at least try and save them. Without them I wouldn't exist, therefore I owe them big time. Oil and Agriculture, nuff said. Actually your system is closer to a communist system, in that you would rather regulate it and centralize everything. I never said anything about individualism, and if you want to choose a terrible nursing home I say good riddance you deserve what you get. Why should my tax dollars pay for your stupidity? The BSE package was about 2.1 billion dollars, which ironically doesn't even cover how much we paid out to Ottawa in equalization (http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/epic/internet/inimr-ri.nsf/fr/gr107911f.html) The Droughts aid was 5.2 billion over 6 years (but not just for Alberta, it was all Canadian farmers affected by drought) and 40% of which came from the 'have' provinces (lol so yeah, we paid to give ourselves aid... and the Feds got credit =p) Also worth noting is the Albertan government personally provided over 300 million in aid from our own coffers (on top of our equalization 'donation') (http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/agriculture/drought2002.html) The Floods gave us nothing, we handled it ourselves. Martin did promise aid after his visit though, but that was back in June so I guess its just probably another empty pledge by the Fiberals(http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/06/24/alta-flood-050624.html) -
Well, at least we agree that Theory isn't Fact hehe As for Religion, true it has no proof to back it up that you would accept. Therefore I won't push that point. However, I would argue that Evolution has the same problem, for example carbon dating. This was used by evolutionists for the longest while to prove the age of our planet (and to also disprove creation) yet then we learned the half-life of carbon was insufficient to accurately depict anything near the ages they were coming up with. My point is that just because a scientist says something, doesn't make it fact. That is something I know alot of Evolutionists (that I know) have a problem with, they think that because it is said by a reknown scientist they can turn off their brain and just absorb everything as being complete truth =p Heck, I am not even THAT accepting of religion. Again, I believe we must either accept all theories as teachable in a classroom or ban them all. Otherwise you are discriminating.
-
Bring what on? You're claiming there's more scientific evidence gainst evolution than for. I call bullshit. So it's your job to step up. And evolution is proven, inasmuch as the weight of evidence for it is so immense and so thoroughly documented. In any meaningful sense, evolution is a fact. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Fair enough, clarify for me by pointing out the evolutionary theories you support and I will do my best to show them up. Otherwise I might waste my time by disproving a theory you don't even support =p
-
This an excellent example of the logic failures of anti-evolution creationists: there is nothing in evolution theory that precludes the idea that a divine creator - evolution theory simply describes how it is possible for new life forms to appear without the intervention of the creator. In fact, many scientists are believers in God and see science as way to better understand the universe created by God.I find it puzzling that many Christians have such big problems with evolution but are perfectly willing to accept the science that shows Earth is a miniscule planet on the outer rim of one galaxy among billions. It seems to me that a God that really thought his/her creations on Earth were so special then he/she would have given them a more prominent position in the universe. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> True, but at the same time many evolutionists claim it proves God doesn't exist, had I known where you stand on the issue I wouldn't have brought it up. So you are an evolutionist that allows the possibility of supernatural intervention? Oh and as for giving us a more prominent position in the universe, I find it ironic that you can't find our little planet the most amazing place in our known universe since we have yet to find a planet that can even sustain life =) I would say this is a great place to be.
-
Not necessarily true, since we can look at the provincial governance of other provinces that have elected NDP/Lib candidates. From the looks of other provinces, I would say we chose right Actions speak louder than words BD, especially in politics. BSE bailouts is corruption? ATB loan guarantees are corrupt? Would you please point out HOW the Alberta government was corrupt in at least some of those situations? Compared to Ontario Alberta is rural, compared to Sask. we ARE Ontario. Agreed publicly the seperatist movement is weak, simply because we are too fractured and lack the funding for campaigning. However, judging from my own personal experiences and the people I talk to, seperatism is definitely on the rise. Klein himself said '1 in 4 Albertans' currently support it (he said it to RD) Never did I say anything about religion, you just stereotyped. Also I never once said all Albertans are 'conservative lovin gay bashin rural fol', I just said most were =p Yet in all that time Canada still has no culture, prove me wrong. Ah, the wonders of the elderly. I have grandparents and older people as friends who I discuss politics with, along with my parents (although they aren't nearly so much into politics). Mulroney was no more a conservative then Stephen Harper, and the Canadian Conservative party is more socialist than the American Democratic Party. I blame socialism, and therefore the current Canadian socialist government. No, but we will be less than kind to Albertan's that bailed on us when we went solo.. only to try and return when Canada goes up in smoke Oh, and when the oil wells go dry (another century or so) we still have the tar sands, which are a rival to Saudi oil deposits =) We will be happy for a loooong time on oil fumes, so don't worry about that
-
I really doubt that. But let's have it anyway. Given your inability to distinguish scientific theory from hocus-pocus, this should be good for a chuckle. Again: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bring it on Oh, and scientific theory IS hocus-pocus, until it is proven.

Read my reply to Renegade, I addressed this exact topic. You can't say its ok to use the state to ban religion from a public institute, as that would contradict your claim to seperate church from religion. What you are advocating is rather state control of religion. No the issue is you are banning one theory in favor of secular theories. I am saying don't ban any or ban all, after all isn't Canada all about equality? =p So your for state control of religion to the point where religion should not be permitted outside your home/place of worship (since its a private matter) yet you are ok with naked men masturbating and/or marching in front of children in gay parades? Careful with how you answer that one Agreed. So the state should not be able to impose on childrens' right to have a religion, and to include it in their school life. It did to a family that my parents know, it came up in church too. She was praying the Lords prayer and was asked to stop by her teacher, when she didn't stop she was sent to the Principles office. I have heard from others this has happened elsewhere too, but I don't have any actual sources to back it up. If I find any I will be sure to let you know (although, with mainly Liberal media in this country such things are not likely to be reported) As I have stated, prove it or admit it isn't a plausible theory. One interesting tidbit you should think about, Thermodynamics. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only converted from one form to another. If the physics of our universe is limited in this fashion how did our energy come into existence? Where did matter come from? How did the universe begin? Oh yes, Evolution has evidence =p Evidence to disprove itself, I mean the string theory is the ONLY possible theory that has much merit and it is COMPLETELY theory (no proof whatsoever to back it up, merely speculation) Therefore, don't teach my kids unfounded theories at all or allow all theories.
-
Theories are theories, whether they are religious or not your arguments work both ways. Hence, Evolution and other secular studies (which are completely unproven) should not be forced on my children, and I won't force my religion on your children... fair? Oh, and please do enlighten me about the 'scientific' support for Evolution I know of more science that disproves it than proves it.

Your point is only valid if the Iraqi war is undeniably wrong, which it isn't. Again, this isn't the topic at hand so stop bringing it in (since if you keep bringing it in SOMEONE *cough eureka cough* is going to start a rant about it which is going to cause someone else to respond to it which will cause more people to talk about it which will end up with this no longer being about Alberta =p) Comparing the Iraqi war to the Gomery Inquiry is complete and utter BS, since the one is at least controversial (Iraqi war) and the other is obviously daylight robbery (Gomery Inquiry). As an intelligent free-thinker I can safely say any person that is willing to forgive and forget what the Liberal party has, and is, doing to Canada should NEVER critisize Mulroney or any other Conservative leader. If you can stomach the kind of corruption the Liberals are responsible for (especially if you can even fathom voting for them again) then you deserve a dictatorship, because that is just what you are advocating.

Muslims are a peaceful people, if they are in a region of religious freedom. This is all just speculation (take it with a grain of salt) but it seems to me that most Muslim radicals come from the most Muslim-dominated regions, whereas 'Western' Muslims have come to realize that religions can co-exist without HAVING to dominate one another or die trying. For a list of major world religions check this out: http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html But as for Christian/Jewish clashes, you are probably thinking Catholic/Jewish conflicts (like the Crusades) because Protestant-based denominations deeply respect the Jews for being Christ's chosen people. As a side note though, Catholics now-a-days are alot less... offensive than they have been in the past So they get along with everyone pretty well too
-
You spout the same nonsense as the CBC, you do know how propoganda works right? You hear it enough from enough sources and you assume its true? This isn't a discussion about Bush or the Republicans so don't go there, but Bush hasn't lied (prove me wrong), misrepresented anything, and his spending is so high because he led the bloody country through 2 wars =p Try and go through war with a surplus, if you can do it your better than every leader to have ever existed. Well if the financial minister became the new leader, and scandals having to do with finances started coming to the surface until finally a doozy like the Gomery Inquiry popped up then I would not vote Con I would vote the next best. Although if we are looking at this truthfully, I wouldn't be voting Cons in the first place =p

Alberta's Conservative Government
Hawk replied to takeanumber's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
When has Alberta ever been about immediate equity? We are a province of investment, and it has paid off. Oh, and did you hear that the Cons are responsible for sunburns? I mean heck those *ssholes actually allow the sun to burn us! Blame the act on those responsible, the government is NOT always responsible. I mean if you think about it, your socialist policies are more to blame for this, because you are so soft on criminals they don't fear jail (people commit crimes to live in jail) and therefore they don't fear the law. The middleclass will have to stick with the current system then, I am middle-class white trash and am perfectly ok with a two-tier system. If some rich guy wants healthcare who am I to say he can't get it? What if your grandparents were dying and needed a surgery within 2 months to live? Big problem #1, waiting lists can be YEARS in the current system. Big problem #2, we still end up paying for healthcare, especially post-surgery. With the private tier you have the chance to live, because you could get a loan from the bank or possibly (if your family is big or rich) you could pool money and afford a proper surgery and save your parents life. This isn't about changing the current system, its about adding more options to my healthcare. Since we already pay premiums plus additional expenses not covered by our healthcare (which is pretty much everything other than doctor checkups) I don't see it as logical to oppose a private tier. As for the lack of doctors/nurses, blame our public system. Its easier and more profitable to go to the States rather than stay in Canada, I mean heck they can start private practices and make a pretty penny OR they can stay in Canada and get regulated pay and be overworked. Your right we can't poof doctors into existence, which is why we have to give them a reason to stay in Canada (and money isn't always the reason). I recall that same thing being proclaimed every time Alberta invested in anything for the long-term, looks like our gamble won out. Taking care of your parents is not my governments job, I don't believe in a nanny-state and neither does most Albertans. If you don't care enough to move your parents out of a bad elderly home don't blame the government when they get mistreated, blame the home and get criminal charges pressed. Collective security is a fable, such a utopia has never existed in Canada and never will so long as we are a nanny-state. -
CFB Edmonton is overwhelmingly Eastern in origin. Newfies make up the largest component of PPCLI, followed by Ontario, Quebec. Albertans make up the tiniest minority of PPCLI, less than 5%. Nice try though. Albertans complain bitterly about representation, but can't even run a proper democracy in their own province. The electoral map is totally gettymandered (with some ridings being overrepresented by as much as 45%; and there isn't even an competitive electoral system, in spite of a provincial Liberal party that is farther right than most province's right wing party. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Could you supply sources for the PPCLI? You give figures so I assume you have them As for Albertan politics, we are sadly under the parliamentary system (thanks Canada). However, to mock our politics and not the Feds is complete crap. We may re-elect our government but we do so because they are doing most of what we want (thats right, most. Klein isn't perfect, but as close as we can come with the current selection of candidates ) If the cons stole several billion dollars from us, and pushed through legislation that over 90% of Albertans disagreed with. You can be DAM sure we would through them out, which is why we are still better than Eastern Canada when it comes to politics =p
-
Ok I showed you facts and figures, you showed me rhetoric and opinion (give me sources or numbers). But I am not all that surprised, you are one poster that I have yet to understand why you believe what you believe =p Emotion < reason. FACT: Alberta has recieved not a cent of equalization since the 1960s, instead we have given out hundreds of billions more than we recieved for ANY reason (be it CSHT or other aid) Thank our lucky stars? The original provinces always had natural resource rights from the getgo, but I guess that doesnt mean anything... because hey, its not like all the provinces have EVER been equal in the confederation. Heck, when Albertans were dying of starvation we barely got a nod from the East. So yeah we were formed from a desperately poor area of the territories, but unlike the rest of Canada (that was basically giving us the finger) when we came out of that dark time we invested in our resources. Are you arguing that our oil is the only reason Alberta is doing good? Thats b*llshit, Sask. has oil, BC has oil, Manitoba has oil, the Territories have TONS of resources (diamonds, oil etc). Yet they aren't as well off as Alberta, so its NOT just the presence of the resources it is the fact that Alberta sacrificed at one time to gain later. We can thank our ancestors for their sacrifices and hard work, because we are enjoying it today. The reason I am a Seperatist is because I believe in carrying on the tradition of my ancestors, and protecting Alberta's future generations from the Canadian public who, while simultaneously stealing out of our pockets, have no problem with making it known they hate our 'have' province. What would that have to do with anything? We would get our land resources one way or the other =p

Albertans accused of red-neck & anti-gay
Hawk replied to mirror's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Wow, your so right, I guess between getting called red-neck, stupid, brainwashed, bigoted, and the oh-so-famous cracker I forgot to be sensitive You should really stop arguing about words, its stupid and really winds up nowhere. Civility is not a requirement to be a Canadian, and civility is relative. So here it might not be considered 'civil' to refer to each other as rednecks (actually for most of us we get a kick out of it, because it means 'not Liberal' ) whereas over in the East it is perfectly civil to refer to Albertans in as terrible a fashion as you want =) You can shove your political correctness and civility right up your own @$$ because it is nothing more than hypocrisy, something I (along with most other Albertans, save the ignorant ones) have learned is very common in left-wing ideologies But cheer up, if it makes you feel better I will 'allow' you to refer to me as a redneck elephant PS Homosexuals call themselves queers, black people call themselves niggers, so tell me how we are wrong in merely doing as they do? You should care more about the intent than the word =p -
I did, but wait it was probably over your head. You posted this: To which I claimed you proved my point, which was by implication that an alcoholic, high-school drop out does a better job than the Libs and NDP =) Thanks Sources? The burden of proof is on the prosecution Of course, but then again most of Alberta is rural so its not horribly skewed. Not to mention Calgary (one of Canada's fastest growing cities) is a Conservative bastion, so your 'rural' theory kind of died. LoL so its exactly like a left-wing professor's article Good, now do more than talk the talk. Been there done that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberta_separatism Rage has its place, heck democracy wouldn't exist without rage. The problem is the government keeps rubbing salt in our wounds, so expect us to get pissed. We would be irrational zombies if we took this crap without at least complaining. Oh and about your bars, you should stay away from those gay joints they are bad for your health... literally My dare still stands, go into a bar and do that on video, and it has to be a full bar =) PS I am an Albertan, I don't stereotype. Oh, and we have more national identity than Canada. Canada doesn't even have a culture, and its flag is barely 40 years old.. get a culture of your own before you criticize mine Yeah it did, before Pearson came in it did. Since then our country has been dominated by Liberals that have drastically changed us into the nanny-state we are today. Do you think the Libs fixed seperatism? They didn't. Do you think the Libs fixed the divide between ethnic groups? They didn't. Do you think our society gets along more than it did 40 years ago? It doesn't, look at our crime rate increase, look at racial crimes increase, hate crimes, etc etc. The Liberal dynasty has destroyed this country, and by the time you realize this I hope to be contentedly drinking beer with my redneck friends in the Republic of Alberta while the rest of you and your enlightened Liberal/NDP buddies wallow in complete poverty =) Oh, and don't try to border jump when it happens... we'll be waiting
-
Maybe not in my own pocket, but without federal taxes (over 200 dollars every 2 weeks for me alone, and I am a bloody student) I would be alot happier. Not to mention without that outflow the government could use it for our own rural police force etc Then why are the soldiers being sent to these hotzones coming mainly from Alberta? On a sidenote, with the current state of our armed forces I can't blame anyone that doesn't want to join it. I mean heck, more of our soldiers are killed by our own machine malfunctions than killed in active duty =p Really? Source please? Oh, and the CSHT was created to help out economies not dependant on equalization. Yet ironically Alberta still recieves far far less in CSHT transfers than we pay out in equalization. I found it funny when reading up on CSHT at this site (http://www.fin.gc.ca/FEDPROV/frmwrk_e.html) The part that talks about how Alberta wasn't always free of equalization payments, no we actually got around 92 million over a period of 8 years or so. Funny how I hear people say 'The East helped Alberta before Alberta was rich', 92 million is help? I mean, seriously, you give us 92 million, smash us with NEP and blame us for the complete crash we experienced (courtesy of PET), then leave us to starve and mock us as we pile our money into developing our oil industry. Oh, and lets not forget, you steal 167 billion more from Alberta since 1961 in extra taxes. Average contribution to equalization for Alberta (per capita) - 4000 Totals to about: 12 billion yearly Average contribution to equalization for Ontario (per capita) - 2400 Totals to about: 23 billion yearly Yeah sure looks fair to me =p Oh, that 92 million will certainly be remembered and cherished forever, it will cause us to forgive all and forget all. Thanks but no thanks. Almost like "Screw the West, we'll take the rest" - Liberal Campaign worker (1980) OH and PLEASE refer to my previous point about the 'help' you have lent Also, thanks for the aid when we got flooded... oh wait, there was none Thats ok, we took care of it, as usual... you see, Alberta doesn't depend on the nanny-state, we like taking care of ourselves
-
Whats really sad is you just proved my point They haven't You done? Alright lets get back to the discussion then. What does rural or urban have to do with anything other than media saturation (aka propoganda)? Oh, and in answer to your question, no more than is centered in the city. LoL, why is a right-wing professor a nutcase but any left-wing professor a genius? OH MY, could it be the ones who cry 'partisan' oh-so-often are themselves guilty of thier own accusations??? NO of course not, you are far to good for that Oh, and about 'all Albertans' and the stereotype. Big deal, I mean heck you call us that half the time and your one of us (supposedly) =p Your right, there is a way to fix the Federal system. Throw it out the window and leave it in the past where it belongs. For a 'progressive' party the Libs sure don't like changing anything that threatens their stranglehold on the nation =) Oh well, rest assured BD, if Seperatism finally flares you can stay in your little room rocking back and forth chanting 'It can't be' for as long as you want but that doesn't change what me and my friends KNOW. We, as Albertans, are pissed at the government and anyone who supports them. Go into a bar and shout 'I love the Liberals, Homosexuals, and Kyoto', I dare you. Your right, we do get what we deserve. The problem is we are giving out more than you deserve, and if we don't have a voice then stop taking our money. As for Albertans being patriotic, your right. Heck Alberta is the most patriotic province, why do you think we hate the Liberals and NDP so much? Because they aren't Canadian, they are part of the EU (at heart). Alberta is the last bastion of the real Canada, and therefore the last Canadians.
-
I don't know who brought up this idea of the oil running out, but that person is a little off (If my source isn't off) It is estimated that Alberta has 175 billion barrels in reserve. Canada's (not alberta's) current production is approximately 2.6 million barrels per day. 175,000,000,000 / 2,600,000 (again, Canada's total) = 67307.69 (days) 67307.69 / 365.25 (number of days in a year) = 184.28 (years). Production will surely go up, but even if it triples we still have over 60 years of oil in reserve. Technological advances will surely eliminate the need for oil before we run out.
-
I agree we shouldn't force prayer on children, but it isn't seperating church and state when you use the state to ban the church. That is not any better than affirmative action. If you want to outlaw peer pressure go for it, otherwise you are merely using religion as a scapegoat. I find it sickening that a child praying the Lord's Prayer before a test can get in trouble, that is religious persecution. He/she isn't bugging anyone, they just take a few minutes for themselves to pray to their god(s) so leave them be. On another note, I find it ironic how people can shriek so loudly about religion being 'forced' on children but they have no problem with evolution or even atheism. Both are theories, unproven theories I might add. What makes secular theories so much more acceptable than religious ones? Religious persecution.

Toyota creates more problems for Conservatives
Hawk replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I find it hilarious how the left-wing can't grasp the difference between private and public, they think a private system will 'drain' funding from the public. Sorry to completely dissapoint you but that is the great thing about private anything, TAX DOLLARS DONT PAY FOR IT. Thats right, it is NOT run by the government (yes you may stop gasping now lefties) so it isn't funded by us. Isn't that a grand idea? I thought so too -

Not unless you marry your dick -
Not true, Alberta may have some dissatisfaction but it would be in no way nearly so drastic as the current dissatisfaction. Also the geographical divide would be far less extreme and I would hope with seperation we ditched the worthless parliamentary system =p The idea that Alberta has no voice in national affairs is a myth created by people who have a vested interest in propagating that myth. You acknowledged that I had a point when it came to Manning. Harper had the opportunity to do a lot more than Manning because of the minority government. However, he pissed the opportunity in a mad grab for power. A better leader than Harper would have taken full advantage of the Liberal's weakness and pushed for real policy changes instead of grandstanding. People in Alberta want to be heard on the national stage they need to be constructive. I did not agree with many of Mannings ideas but at least he had ideas and concrete proposals for change. He did not expend all if his political capital directing insults at the people he needed to influence. LoL did you just quote yourself or was that a typo?
