The manufacturer's trax was not unfair to domestic manufacturers. That is why we have an import tax. Gst is just too much tax on taxes. It may be fairer to Canadian manufacturers but is a pain in the butt to small businesses and a pain in the pocket book to consumers. Plus the manufacturer tax could be tailored to specific industries. Environmentally friendly manufacturers could pay less; necessities could pay less; luxury items more.

How many Iraqi civillians/ american/British/Australian/ etc and our own Canadian soldiers have died due to Bush's ill advised invasion of Iraq?? And for what???? American experts and many of Bush's own men have stated that the invasion of Iraq has not made America any safer from terrorist attacks. We were given these rights to prevent misuse of our personal information. This information can be obtained on a need to know basis; otherwise there is no reason for making them open and accessible without just cause.

I think this is too generalized. I don't think most people even consider whether it is right or left; that is just a recent development. Former Progressive conservatives did not take this to the degree of Harper's "conservatives. Each party is influence by its leader. We have Gordon Campbell's "Liberals" here in BC. They are exreme right wing and no where near a central balanced agenda. What is wrong with a more middle of the road agenda. The middle income working man needs to get his share of tax money. Right wings gives to the rich; left wind gives to the poor; in both cases the middle income working man pays the bills.

Canadian Islamic leader opens mouth...

I think this statement is too mild; like shrugging the shoulders. -
The manufacturer tax was a better way; no matter how old. The GST adds on taxes every step of the way from manufacturer to us. It just means more money in the govt's pockets and more work for accountants figuring out the gst owed by companies large and small. I prefer seeing the price I am going to pay when looking at items. What made the manufacturers sales tax stupid??? Just because it was old and a tax worked into a product???

If they were true; that would be one individual versus a bunch of Liberal supporters. Let's face it, most of these politicians are in it for themselves; not for the sake of serving our country. See how quickly they want to always give themselves big raises.

New BC Drunk Driving Bill

Both players are aware that these incidents will happen otherwise they have never watch a hockey game. It is the NHL and team owners that need to clean up their act and deal with the situation. Teams hire borderline hockey players that are tough fighter "enforcers". Blaming one player when an opponent is injured is dumb; adrenaline and protection of one's friends and team mates come into play. It is the NHL and team officials that need to control these situations. I would prefer to watch hockey without the unneeded violent attacks; however, I am not in the majority from the sounds of cheering I hear whenever a fight erupts. Hockey players do hit more now thinking that with all the protection worn that serious injury will not happen; incidents are quickly ignored and forgotten until someone is injured. That is what they get the big bucks for; as they may need to deal with injuries; sports related or by actions that may be allowable or those that cross the line. -

This was not the same person I was thinking of; we have two of these suddenly coming out promoting hate. This is the person I was referring too. -

The man should be arrested and deported if he is an immigrant. This is obviously a hate crime and appears to incite terrorism. He made other sickening comments, too. -
NO, not without the approval of the people. Look at Bush's action which he claims is needed to protect America. Politicians sometimes lie, sometimes use excuses for actions that have some other agenda; and sometimes politicians do not have the right intelligence. I do not believe that we need to offer any political machine the right to do anything they wish just by claiming it is necessary to protect us. There are limits and taking away any of my privacy rights is not okay.

The same can be said for many regular prescription drugs. I do believe that they are working on tests for marijuana. Other prescription drugs should be tested for too if one is driving errantly. -

Fighting is now an accepted part of the game and is not assault. Is it assault in a boxing ring when one boxer hits another. Until these rules are changed; it is part of the sport and punishable by the league; it should not be a police matter especially since it is only when the media over blows a certain incident. -
I wouldn't bet the farm on that Argus. Mulroney may have escaped charges but I still have my suspicion. As far as I am concerned; he sold us out to the Americans with his one sided Free Trade agreement. The GST may not be eligible for corruption charges but it sure was a vile money grab.

It was not fear of the unknown that stopped us for voting for him. It was his actions and words that made us not want to travel that path. We did not want to align ourselves with the Bush regime and their illegal unwise invasion of Iraq. Harper had no business going to the USA and apologizing for Canada not joining the USA in that illegal invasion.
-
Mulroney had charisma and substance???????? Gee wonder how I missed it??? Harper is just got nothing to offer and would align us with the present USA policies which most Canadians disagree with strongly. I didn't need any Liberal campaign to tell me that Harper would put us on a road we didn't want to travel.

Ralph Nader is an aggravating nuisance. I hope nobody votes for him. What is his point, anyhow. -

Just try to make your idea understandable. I have no idea what you are talking about. I am sorry the school system failed you. -
Who knows what they would do with our records. They have some agenda, since they passed a law to remove these protected rights from their own citizens. I do not get to vote for their leader ; so keep their grimey mitts off any of my records be it medical, financial or which sites I go to on the internet.

Yes, it is a control mechanism. To scare people from drinking and driving and it is working. What UNLIMITED resources and what mutilated children??? The road blocks can identify people who for other reasons are driving without due diligence. Cell phones are another irritant of mine; swerving or impeding traffic. You worry about road rage; worry about drinking drivers; many people are mean drunks. Ask many abused wives; generally the male has been drinking. -
How is this saving us money? Using local labour helps our economy and returns money via taxes to the provincial treasury.

Medical records have always been protected. People need to discuss more with their doctors than broken arms or sore throats. There could be issues of mental health such as depression or one's sexuality that could be used against them in their employment or just blackmail. It could provide links to other information. It matters not; it is just none of anyone's business. We do not need anyone; especially a foreign government or agency with the right to snoop in our personal records. We are quite capable of keeping our own records. I have been followed on the internet due to checking sites that they must have found "suspicious" I was on a forum held by our Foreign affairs and was checking out sites on Ramsey Clarke. They can even check out what books you read at a library. Who needs them jumping to the wrong conclusions as they did with Iraq.

Bible Belt Is There When You Need It
caesar replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think separating boys and girls is counterproductive. It is an attempt to pigeon hole girls and boys as completley different. Not all boys are the same nor are the girls. They have to learn to deal with both sexes in life and school relationships both male and female form part of the necessary learning. It is a step back into the dark ages. Separate classes for fast learners and slow learners would be more productive. Making intelligent students sit around listening to the same lessons over and over is boring and turns them off. -

Your post is garbled. If this is the grammar you learnt there; perhaps some changes are needed,. -
I have nothing to hide either but I think this is a dangerous and stupid thing to do. Besides, why are we using foreign countries to do jobs when we have plenty of available and qualified Canadians that can do the job without giving foreign interests any personal information. Even the BC govt is getting nervous and attempting to close some of these doors they have opened.

If the police only discover that 3% of the driver's checked are guilty of drinking; it means that it is working. They do publicize and warn people. It, also, means it is not a money grab.
