  1. Because of many reasons. If you can't be more specific, then why should anyone else be?
  2. Imagine then, tens, perhaps hundreds, of millions of people all with the same type of personal problems. It can simply be put down to human nature then, yes?
  3. With NATO on one side and India on the other, one would think Pakistan would be worrying.
  4. Who do you think "decides that?" The notion that all government information, including conversations between members of the public service, is for "public consumption" because the "public pays the bill" is completely ludicrous and absurd. And, quite frankly, beneath the usual quality of your posts.
  5. Simple: drop the political histrionics with regard to private health care cause it ain't gonna happen. The system will remain public and that is that. End of story. Then plan projects accordingly. Wait. Do you suppose that people working within our healthcare system are doing this all ready? Is that even possible?
  6. I am sure there are many reasons why people get caught up using their credit cards and debt spiral. Here are some. But lumping them all in as "stupid" compared to someone else's atypical behaviour isn't very helpful now is it? I know people who have lost jobs and have had to rely on credit cards to make payments on things until they get another job - some even groceries; I know students who use credit cards to get by lean times. Then there is a the whole phenomenon of consumerism and the keeping-up-with-the-jones which has free reign over the public right now.
  7. Because not all ideas and information discussed by government employees are for public consumption. Really, what a ridiculous idea.
  8. Quite the opposite "bro." I have provided good reasons as to why Democracy Watch looks foolish in this instance and all you can come back is with sarcastic ad hominem? But the argument is, the accuracy of the complaint of Democracy Watch. If you can counter my rebuttal, please do - for everyone's sake. Otherwise, nice dodge bro.
  9. It is plainly stated? Not all credit situations follow the Bonam-As-Ideal, I am sure you agrer to that. We are talking about your behaviour as being typical. Unless you transfer your credit card debt to a low interest LoC every month to make it look like you 'paid it off.' Well then it begs the question, if the greater portion of the population that uses credit cards, does not subscribe to your particular ideal, then why not? You attribute their behaviour to "stupid." Now there is a proven social phenomenon (you've proved it yourself, above) that negatively affects tens, if not hundreds, of millions of people and all you can come up with is "stupid?" That sounds like a cop out and nothing more.
  10. The defintion of a "record" for all government and government funded institutions IS a record of their actions and decisions. So when the CPC made their promise in 2006 it was more than a titch naive and most likely they didn't follow up on it because when they took power (and took a clue) they found out the powers of the Information Commissioner were exactly what they were supposed to be. What this article does is make Democracy Watch uninformed and somewhat pathetic. If they were that stupid, I'd be thinking about their funding too. Salaries of CBC employees - or any other government employee - is covered by the Privacy Act, not the Access to Information Act. It is perfectly reasonable to release employee pay scales, just not the actual earnings by an identifiable person.
  11. Say it isn't so... Pro-Gaddafi report resulted from privately-funded Canadian fact-finding mission SNC-Lavalin, bringing Canadian values to the world since 1911. Thank God we sold AECL to them.
  12. NATO is the military, Canada's contribution to the NATO mission didn't necessarily have to be combat.
  13. Come on now. Walk down Queen St. West on any Saturday and Sunday and all you see are artsy hipsters. Some of them quite aged. Howeve,r poli-sci and sociology students can dress artsy-hipster.
  14. TIL - that you can affect iron intake by cooking with a chunk of iron in your pots. I had no idea. My wife is anemic, but refuses to take the brutal iron pills. I wonder if she would cook an iron fish. Canadian’s lucky iron fish saves lives in Cambodia
  15. I think one of the main problems is not a balance on a credit card as a bad thing, but the interest rates and fees being charged. What is a reasonable interest rate? When folks see themselves being squeezed on one way, they tend to see all the other ways too. So you were off a few percentage points not to mention that it doesn't indicate how those balances are paid off, i.e. robbing Peter to pay Paul, or transferring debt to a low interest line of credit. Either way, you agree that your behaviour is not typical right?
  16. That is a very good question and I suppose for some it depends on how powerful the overall effect of the ideology is as an ordering agent for life/reality/whatnot. For sure, some get it and will oppose it for argument's sake, to develop and expand on ideas. Others are simply clueless, but possess the intellectual capacity to see beyond mere ideology to come to an understanding. Then there are those, usually boomers or "me generation," who are so self-interested they can't see past their nose. They understand the issues conceptually, but since those issues do not impact on them personally, the issues simply cannot be true. These are the scariest of the lot.
  17. What is worse is people eager to absolve banks of all blame. Would you say this is typical of most credit card users?
  18. All this appears to be is the committee was going to let the Info Commish do her job. Since she had won the court case to see the documents, and evaluate the exemption criteria, there was no reason the committee needed to see the documents. I don't think the committee members were backing off as much as they were doing their job.
  19. Why on earth would you think I hate the Lions?
  20. Like I said, it depends on how you define what those gifts are...
  21. I am sure it will come up on the NFL Network too. When all the key plays show up on YouTube, I'll be sure to post them. Historic win for the Pack.
  22. Christmas is for everyone. If Occupy Christmas has given you pause, even for one moment, about the rampant and out-of-control consumerism that surrounds it, they have done their job. However, like practically all indigenous winter solistic celebrations all over the world, in practically all time periods, gift giving was and is an honoured and respected tradition. How you define what those gifts are and how you give them is key. Best. Rant. Ever.
  23. Thread to discuss the Packers beating the Detroit Lions today. This not being a holiday in Canada, I will have to be satisfied with watching the game replay over and over, at least until New Years Day at Lambeau. Packers beat Lions, improve to 11-0 Ndamukong Suh ejected, denies stomp Tsk, tsk, tsk. Capers, defense put a whippin' on Lions Sweet! For those that actually saw the game live, please discuss.
  24. Yeah, contact Arnold Schwarzenegger, he should be able to help.
