  1. I think blogs might have had a small effect on this election. Mike Kandahar getting busted on his blog hurt. The rightwing blogs can help keep the biased MSM in line (witness the state-run Taxpayer-funded CBC eventually removing the cropped cartoon pic of Harper giving a Nazi Salute). The main reason why it might have helped the right in this election is because of the gaffe-filled Liberal campaign. Blogs can be valuable because they often save video from TV. I've linked videos at MLW for people that missed it on TV (beer and popcorn, Mike Duffy vs John Duffy). People who missed this on TV can see it in the blogosphere. Additionally, it you get linked from a "biggie", say an Instanpundit in the USA, or Smalldeadanimals in Canada, thousands or hundreds of thousands see this information. However, the MSM still controls the news because they have far more resources than bloggers.
  2. I saw this on our local Shaw Cable Saskatoon channel. I saw the repeat. It was bizarre. Are the Liberals really that arrogant that they feel they do not have to use *67, that they wouldn't get caught? Axworthy claims that someone snuck in to his headquarters and made the call. Huh? CTV Newsnet briefly reported it, but I think the rest of the MSM ignored this story. Velacott is despised by the left over here because he is socially conservative. That being said, he works hard, does a good job, and is generally well-liked by his constituents. It never ceases to amaze me how worked up the left gets when a social conservative dares to go into politics, yet I just finished watching Jack Layton at a rally in BC, and the highly contoversial Svend Robinson was standing directly (to Layton's right) behind Layton. Amazing.
  3. Boru: "Liberals...very favorite taunt: Hypocrisy! Hypocrisy is the only sin that really inflames them. Inasmuch as liberals have no morals, they can sit back and criticize other people for failing to meet the standards that liberals simply renounce. It's an intriguing strategy. By openly admitting to being philanderers, draft dodgers, liars, weasels and cowards, liberals avoid ever being hypocrites." -- Ann Coulter
  4. Hicksey: You forgot that Canadian grandmas will be reduced to eating cat food, all because of Harper's immoral taxcuts for the wealthy.
  5. 7 Conservative 4 Liberal, and 1 Bloc Quebecois
  6. You're kidding?! The National Post used to be a "right leaning" paper in the Conrad Black and Mark Steyn days, but after being bought by the liberal Asper family, the paper has become centrist--which actually is quite good (although not as good as before). And the Globe & Mail is a leftwing paper--but fairer than the hard-left Toronto Star--and is owned by the same company that owns CTV...
  7. Yeah, Mike Duffy is a neocon.
  8. Betsy: She summed it up in 3 short sentences. Impressive.
  9. Good topic. I noticed this too. It seemed at the beginning of the campaign that it was going to be the same crap again by the liberal MSM....but Martin's ludicrous "the US should have a global conscience" crack seemed to embarrass even the liberal MSM--when it turned out that our greenhouse gas emissions had risen nearly twice that of the US. I sensed that was the turning point in the MSM's coverage. And there was the "beer and popcorn" insult.... Kandahar's vicious slurs on his blog....even comparing the wife of a national leader to a dog... Income trust investigation...(even Peter Mansbridge went after Goodale hard regarding the tradition of stepping aside while an investigation was being conducted). The 1995 referendum scandal.... Liberals being involved in the Oil for Food scandal... John Duffy trying to intimidate the media into not talking about the loathsome ad suggesting our troops are a bunch of communist thugs.... It seems it all added up and even the liberal MSM was holding their nose to avoid the stench....and wondering, "maybe a CPC victory (especially if it was a minority) wouldn't be so bad."
  10. Finally an admision by a Liberal, that Liberals do take things out of context Ouch. Busted!!
  11. USA Liberal: Bullspit! America is a centre-right country. If Perot hadn't split the right in 1992 (he took about 1/3 of Bush Sr's votes), Clinton would have never won (Clinton only got 43% of the popular vote in '92) and it might have been 7 consecutive victories for the Republicans in the White House. And if the Dems don't purge their party of leftwing extremists like Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid, they haven't got a hope in hell in 2008--no matter how hard the MSM campaigns for them.
  12. I already asked days ago for someone to provide proof of anyone stating they hate Americans. Still Waiting. You've got to be kidding. Chretien’s nephew, Raymond Chretien--Canada's former ambassador to Washington, told a Liberal audience that the Liberal govt prefered Al Gore to win the election rather than Bush. In 2004, a few Liberal senators and 2 Liberal cabinet ministers publicly endorsed John Kerry over Bush, and went around wearing John Kerry campaign buttons. Chretien's communications director, Francine Ducros, publicly called Bush a “moron.” She was never reprimanded for it. Herb Dhaliwal claimed that Bush was a “failed statesman.” No reprimand. Carolyn Parrish screamed out “Americans! I hate the bastards.” No reprimand. Parrish also called the Bush administration a “coalition of idiots” regarding its fight to liberate Iraq. No reprimand. Parrish then went on the state-run, taxpayer-funded CBC TV and stamped on a Bush doll. No reprimand. Only when Parrish criticized PMPM, did he admonish her and kick her out of the Liberal caucus. Sure, they didn't say they hate all Americans, only the majority of them. And many Canadian liberals chuckled at our govt's embarrassing antics (it's just "humor"). But boy oh boy, they sure got upset when some pundit on a cable channel that few watch, called Canadians "our retarded cousins".
  13. I've got another. There is a "progressive" liberal blogger in my city who is freaked out that Harper has grabbed the lead in the polls. *puts on the tin foil beanie, spikes the Kool-Aid, and fires up the bong* She thinks that Karl Rove is secretly in Canada advising Stephen Harper. I spewed Pepsi all over my monitor when I read her post. I've said it before and I will say it again: Progressive Liberals are pure comedy gold.
  14. This is for the people who missed the post-debate analysis on CTV's Newsnet. Mike Duffy really gave John Duffy a good spanking. Watch Duffy lecturing with his pen...kinda looks like Sean Hannity when he's demolishing some Democrat on the Fox News Channel. Mike Duffy may be a liberal, but he is relatively fair. Perhaps he was upset because John Duffy tried to intimidate him during the commercial break? The only time I can recall soldiers with guns, in the streets, in Canada, was when the Castro-admiring Trudeau imposed martial law. Enjoy: Video: 1 minute, 56 seconds
  15. Wow. Yaro is lecturing people on the truth. That's rich coming from someone who has the morals of a sand nit.
  16. CTV's Mike Duffy said it. What is so sinister about 'neoconservative'? Neo is a prefix meaning new/modern. There's hundreds of neoconservatives being born every day. Remember Sir Winston Churchill's famous quip: "If you are under 30 and not a liberal--you have no heart. If you are over 30 and not a conservative--you have no brain." The CPC is a moderate right-of-centre party. They aren't the Conservative Reagan Administration, but neither are they the wishy-washy Progressive Conservative Party--which I considered basically a centre-right party (Liberal Lite). I think the CPC is laying out their philosophy very well. They are not the watery Progressive Conservatives, and they are not a Reagan Administration. I don't think a true conservative party would win in Canada. The US is a center-right country, but I feel that Canada is a center-left country. Harper is a moderate conservative in my book. I think Bush is a moderate conservative. He's conservative when it comes to foreign policy and taxcuts, but he is hardly conservative when it comes to domestic spending (Mr. Compassionate Conservative).
  17. What an infuriating article. We are far too soft on criminals. It's disgusting that the prisoners are going to vote almost 100% Liberal. What does that tell you? As for the death penalty talk above: I would be in favor of putting Clifford Olson to death. He admitted killing a dozen children and for a $100,000 payment (which went to his wife and kids), he directed the RCMP to the graves of children he had killed. Not only is he a serial killer, he is a serial killer of children, and I resent paying for his upkeep. Once in a while, nature makes a mistake. I'd have no problems inserting the needle myself into this scumbag of scumbags...
  18. I think it is the sincerity present in his speeches, something that is missing in Canada. After 12 years of lies and Liberal hypocrisy, Canadians are warming up to the possibility of a sincere and honest government. They see Harper as a man who has morals, integrity, and values. The Liberals cannot attack this, lest they acknowledge they are a party of hate and division. I hope Harper continues on a roll and God Bless Canada... I think you're right. I just saw Harper on CPAC at another rally in Ontario and it was raucous. Harper hit a home run and the energy was electric. I know it is only a rally, but I think you can "sense" the momentum/confidence by watching them. The recent Lib rallies haven't exactly been electric, to be polite. And we know that these parties do their own internal polling.... You mentioned an honest govt....Harper has repeatedly said that the GST taxcut is for every single Canadian and it is an open tax (The old MST, or sometimes called FST, was a hidden tax that started at 9% and was at 13.5% when it was axed) and a taxcut that a govt cannot easily take away. That makes Harper look honest. The CPC is the only party that will not cripple our economy by signing on to Kyoto and they will put gay marriage to a free vote. My...that's so American. It is extremely difficult for any reasonable person to portray Stephen Harper as "angry", "scary", or having a "hidden agenda". CTV's Mike Duffy said that Harper should not be labeled a "neocon", but as a Southern Democrat (if you follow US politics you will know what Duffy means...Your Jack Laytons and Howard Deans don't go over too well in the Southern US). Oh, and an update on the $4.8 million referendum handout story in the OP:Montreal Gazette: An investigation into Option Canada was earlier conducted by Quebec's chief electoral officer Francois Casgrain I'm not pronouncing them guilty on this situation, but I am sick and tired of these scandals. It seems there is a new one every week.
  19. More garbage from Eureka. Well, some of us believe in personal responsibility and don't need the govt to hold our hand...
  20. Another thing I like about Harper is when he signs off from his speeches at the CPC rallies: "God Bless Canada" I'm not religious, yet his send-off sounds heartfelt and patriotic. If someone said to me, "God Bless You", I would be impressed even though I am not religious. It's got more "oomph".
  21. Shoop: No one is talking majority, but why not think about it? Positive energy. The CPC is on a roll and if they continue and get 40%, they could get a majority govt. I am partisan but if an election were held today, it would likely be a CPC minority govt. There are possibly 4 scenarios for the election: 1) CPC minority 2) Lib minority 3) CPC majority 4) Lib majority #4 looks unlikely at this time. #2 and #3 could be a toss-up, but the CPC has the momentum now. No doubt about it.
  22. The bottom line: 81% of Republicans, 57% of Independents and even 51% of your opponents, the Democrats = mandate. 64% of Americans versus 23% of Americans = strong mandate. What the hell is wrong with the Democrats? Get rid of these far-leftists like Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid and replace them with centre-leftists. Honest, sometimes it seems like Al Qaeda is part of their voting base. They want Geneva Conventions rights for the terrorists, they get upset that the terrorists at Gitmo only get Duck a la Orange once a week, they whine about civil liberties regarding the govt eavesdropping on communications between foreign terrorists and American citizens, and they constantly demoralize the US military and at the same time, embolden the terrorists. What's next? Miranda Rights for the terrorists or they go free? The war was illegal and immoral, ergo the Saddam trial is a sham and he should be put back in power? The Republicans make their share of gaffes, but the Democrats seem to be out to lunch. Who is advising them on this strategy....or are they all infected with Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS)? If the MSM was anywhere fair-and-balanced, the Dems would be toast. And a big FU to the NY Times for reporting secret information to the world. You jerks just gave secret info to Al Qaeda and associates and will cost American lives. I think Ann Coulter might have been on to something when she spoke of you....
  23. 1) Stephen Harper is on a roll. I watched his rallies in Markham and Oshawa. He looks confident and enthusiatic. He is using phrases like "this is our philosophy". Good. Be proud to state your philosophy. The CPC is not as conservative as the Reform Party or the Alliance, but they are more conservative than the Liberal-Lite Progressive Conservatives. There's lot of people out there who favor conservative values. Don't be afraid to toot your horn. Harper also did well when he said that "there are millions of Canadians who are experts in childcare" and that it was insulting to claim that the state knew better than the parents when it came to childcare. That's just a couple of instances, but there are more; Harper is saying all the right things. Say what you want, but Harper is the one who is offering choice for the public. His message is, "The Liberals won't trust you with $100/mth, but we do trust you." I hope that resonates with Canadians. Latest survey: Conservatives 36.2%, Liberals 30.4% 2) Martin seems to be struggling lately. His Captain Canada act is wearing thin. His quip about the US getting a "global conscience" regarding Kyoto was embarrassing to Canada, and the crowds at his rallies don't seem overly enthused, especially compared to the Conservative rallies. He tries to portray himself as a patriotic Ronald Reagan, but yet his ships fly the flags of other countries and avoids paying high Canadian corporate tax rates. Reagan seemed sincere; Martin doesn't. He again, tonight, said that Canada is great friends with the Palestinian Authority. Is that supposed to make us look good? He's looked desperate the last week or two. Hot off the presses: RCMP investigating referendum handout 3) Kudos to Jack Layton for defending his woman. He did it just right. You could tell he was ticked and emotional, but he didn't blow his cool. He got my sympathy and I would never vote for the NDP. And Olivia Chow is hardly a dog; she's attractive. Way to go Liberals. Insult the looks of a national leader's wife. 4) Anybody else sense that the MSM election coverage is changing? It's almost like even they are getting tired of the stink coming from the Liberal Party--and thinking maybe a Conservative minority wouldn't be so bad... I've seen Martin questioned about flying the flags of different countries on his ships, the income trust scandal, and I even saw CBC's Peter Mansbridge go after Ralph Goodale (about the tradition of stepping down while a criminal investiagation is going on). The MSM seems to be warming up to Harper and cooling off towards Martin.
  24. GostHacked: I agree with the first sentence in your quote. You been dipping into BC's Kool-Aid?
  25. Not so fast. I saw an Ipsos-Reid poll on Global TV yesterday. It had the Conservatives leading the Liberals nationwide by 1 percentage point and leading in Ontario by 2 points. I tend to favor the Ipsos-Reid polls (having a slight Liberal lead in past polls) over the Strategic Counsel polls--which always have the Liberals at about a 10 point lead. It never made sense that a crooked govt could have such a big lead--surely Canadians aren't that brainwashed.
