What the hell is the matter with you? The 9/11 commission said that Saddam was unquestionably linked to terrorism. Good God, the entire planet--with the exception of you and Black Dog--knows that Saddam's Iraq was a haven for terrorists. FFS, Saddam openly boasted about paying the families of displaced Arab (usually called Palestinian) suicide bombers!! Who is paying you to troll the internet? Billionaire George Soros?
-
So good that he bluffed Dear Leader into signing the Iraqi Liberation Act in 1998, declaring that Saddam was a threat to the free world and was hiding his weapons programs? Edited: Don't forget he kicked the UN inspectors out in '98 and could easily (and did) fool the U.S. given their pitiful intelligence and Saddam's bragging. Clinton's Act simply ties into the United Nations: My Administration has pursued, and will continue to pursue, these objectives through active application of all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. It says nothing about any imminent threat or barging into Baghdad though, but rather letting the UN keep Saddam in check. And he was kept in check through sanctions. Spin spin spin and move the goalposts.

In practice, your distinction is meaningless. I am not saying that all advertising is valueless but I think much of it is. IOW, I would prefer to have cheaper products and spend some of my savings on higher taxes to finance commercial-free (or commercial- reduced) broadcasting. Consumers and sellers would be better off. MB, you are confusing the issue of how to finance broadcasting and the content of broadcasting.I agree with you that the CBC does not respond to what Canadians want, its programming is too left wing (or to be more accurate, its programming seems designed by a high school teacher). Here's an idea. Let's subsidize all radio and TV according to audited audience share. IOW, I just think advertising is a dumb way to finance broadcasting. I'd drop entirely the Canadian Content requirements and abolish the CRTC. (BTW, Radio-Canada is very popular in Quebec. My own explanation for this would require another thread... ) I happen to think the $1 billion we spend for the CBC gives good value, when compared to the cost of an equivalent service financed through advertising. Cutting this subsidy would not be a "saving" for Canada. (BTW, that's about $2.50 per month from each Canadian - much cheaper than Sirius.) The principle of public financing of broadcasting is good but its execution in Canada leaves much to be desired. 1) I'm sorry but I can't let you get away with your reply without a response. My practice is not meaningless. I do use my purchasing power. I have not bought a Bruce Springsteen CD since Springsteen's embarrassing political antics. I rarely watch CNN since I got the FNC. I haven't even bought a Dixies Chicks CD since Natalie Maines' outburst in London (insulting the President while halfway across the world)--and I loved the Dixie Chicks! I refused to pay to see Farenheit 9/11 when I read that Michael Moore was offering Hamas to distribute his film thru the Mid East. I rarely go to the movies, because I don't want to give liberal Hollywood any of MY hardworking money. Yeah I'm stubborn, but the ratings/box office dollars prove I am not the only one--Hollywood is struggling. If you enjoy being forced to pay for a hard-left news channel, that is your perogative. 2) $1 billion annually divided by approximately 17.5 million workers is about $57/year. I'd rather that money go towards decreased taxes, more cops, and strengthening our military. What kind of a democracy has a state-run TV channel that the govt picks Governor Generals and appoints former chairmen of the state-run media to be the Minister of Finance? Dictatorships (and the hopelessly brainwashed EUnuchs) are the only ones who have a state-run News service. You also neglected to mention the CBC's 3rd place rating versus the Global and the CTV. Peter Mansbridge is last in the news ratings and the CBC has virtually nothing to offer Canadians--with the exception of Hockey Night in Canada. 3) Like I said earlier--no one is forcing you to buy product from Global's advertisers. However the state is forcing you to pay for the state-run CBC.

What's With Democrats And Funerals?
Montgomery Burns replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Black Dog: You don't want to got there. Trust me! You do not want to go there. No one hates like the left. From DNC leader Howard "I hate the Republicans and everything they satnd for" Dean, to other leftist hatemongers like Michael "Iraq was an utopia" Moore, Ted "Condi is an Aunt Jemima" Rall, Ted "splash" Kennedy, Robert "white n*ggers" Byrd (D-KKK)--who the Donks often refer to as the "conscience of the Senate--said live on the air in 2001 on the Evil Faux News Channel. Harry Reid--hatemonger. Al Franken and Randi Rhoades of hatemonger radio (Air America) doing "skits" about assassinating the President. No one is as intolerant and hates like the left. No one! Cripes. Bob Fertik--a Democratic consultant--openly mused about KKKarl Rove committing a terrorist act during the Superbowl--so he (and the puppet he controls--GW Bush) could have a justification for invading Iran. The tasteless classless American left is completely out of touch with the public. See you in the 2006 midterm elections. And if you want a contest to see who is the greater hater....I'm ready, willing, and more than able to take you on. Don't sing it. Bring it. -

"Ah do declah, these heah Dehm-o-crats are such beastly creetchas. It's just so unseemly the way these culluhed folk behave at their funerahls, all dancin' and talkin' poltics, insteada demurely sippin' mint juleps on the verhandah." Who are you mocking? Condi "Aunt Jemima" Rice? Colin "Uncle Tom" Powell? Michael "let's throw Oreo cookies at him" Steele? -
Fox News Channel Derangement Syndrome? Wow. The leftwing MSM isn't even trying to hide their searing hatred (and envy) of the wildly successful FNC. The nerve of CNN's Jack Cafferty referring to the FNC as the "f-word channel" (fascist?) on the air. To the best of my recollection, I have never ever seen Cafferty read a pro-Bush email on the air. And CNN wasn't banned in Canada for 5 years unless they came up with something called CNN Canada--like the restrictions the Liberal Party-controlled CRTC forced on the FNC. Oh my. Cheney chose the "safe haven" of an interview with Brit Humes (a very respected Washington reporter) on the Fox News Channel. How will the Republic survive? Reminds me of when CBC's Peter Mansbridge mentioned the FNC three times on the day that the CRTC lifted its 5 year ban of the FNC... I guess I missed the uproar from the MSM when Clinton chose CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC, for safe interviews. And polls show that the public thinks the MSM is overreacting to the Cheney story. Once again the MSM shows that they are out of touch with the public. I love watching the MSM and the Democrats melting down. Sweeeeet! P.S. When will Howard "I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for" Dean grow a set and accept Fox News' challenge to appear on their network? Ditto for that drunken manslaughterer Ted Kennedy... Gutless cowards.

Saskatchewan ponders business tax relief: Is this true or is Calvert trying to make Saskatchewan more Amerikkkan-like? Profits are being exported and invested elsewhere? NOOOO. I'm shocked to hear this, shocked I tell ya. About a week ago, Cavert said that lowering the business tax will NOT make Sask more competitive; Sask businesses only needed to pay their employees more money to keep them. I'll believe it when these greedy Socialist Suckweasels™ actually do the right thing and allow businesses to keep more of their own money.

Lock up the women!
Montgomery Burns replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Did any of those named above actually used the Oval Office? Btw, was Monica actually under the desk when she did it? Oh there you go Betsy. You just had to put it into perspective, didn't you? Reminds of when the liberals shrugged their shoulders when the Liberal Party called Americans bastards, morons, coalition of the idiots, stomping on George Bush dolls on the state TV...... ....but boy oh boy the liberals were furious when a mediocore conservative pundit (Tucker Carlson) on a channel that nobody watches (MSNBC), dared to call Canada "America's retarded cousin". Liberal MPs insulting the US = oh well *shrugs* unimportant pundit insults Canada = OUTRAGE! Oh, how they seethed. -
Geoffrey: Bingo! The state has an advantage and is competing against private business--Canadian businesses. Unfair! And how can you expect fair news coverage from a channel that is the window to the Governor Generalship of Canada? How can you expect fair coverage from a channel where the Liberal Party appoint the former chairman of the CBC to be their Minister of Finance? It's absolutely astounding that some still stick up for the status quo. Too many Canadians are brainwashed by the leftwing agenda pushed by the CBC. Stephen Harper, please move this country to the centre--or preferably, centre-right.... Some of the people in Canada sound as brainwashed as the Europeans--who are subjected to relentless indoctrination by their state-run media.

My Goodness, the world hasn't come to an end!
Montgomery Burns replied to JMH's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ah, Americans in like Mississippi use the term like it is dirty, not your average American... Have to disagree with you there, my friend. Liberal is a dirty word in the US--thanks to the socialists corrupting the word. The modern Democrat Party (after JFK) is not classical liberal, it is socialist. Indeed, the Bush administration is more resemblant of classical liberalism. -

If you would have actually read the comments to the article instead of just throwing your little tantrum you would have seen that there was quite the negative reaction to the article. Completely, and 100% agreed. Shoop, I admit that Ann Coulter is a bomb-thrower, but that is why I like her. I like the fact that someone on my side is willing to get as down and dirty as the Democrats are. I'm tired of the right constantly taking the high road and letting the left walk all over them. However, if you step back and look at what Coulter writes, she is usually dead-on. FTA does nothing but insult conservatives. Also, I find it odd that you claim to be centre-right, but attack one of the most popular conservative writers, Mark Steyn, who is so respected that even the partisan media watchdog (Media Matters) can only come up with one complaint against Steyn--who pumps out an article about every 2nd day. You previously linked to a Islamic terrorist sympathizing website to prove that Steyn was "bad". You previously told me not to link to the Western Standard, a conservative website in Western Canada. And now you link to a 3 page article mocking Coulter's sex life to prove how bad she is. And you tell me to chill? this is a dandy.. can you please cite one example of the Democrates being "dirty" or throwing out blatant lies like Coulter does? And the Republicans (or conservatives) taking the highroad? hilarious. You've got to be joking. You have to be joking. -

I think that the First Lady is attractive for a mature woman--certainly more attrractive than the Hildebeest. Btw, we also have bikini supermodels on our side. Not to mention Rona Ambrose and Helena Guergis. And have you seen some of those ladies from the Canadian Taxpayer's Federation? -
I read a statement from the EGALE site recently and I was shocked at how intolerant they were. Their hatred for conservatives and Christians was shocking.

Actually the last quote is from the official platform of the Communist Party of Canada. Both loathe private business and both want an unmotivated population where everyone scrapes by from month to month with table scraps from the wealthy (but lives in subsidized housing) elitist Dear Leader. I'd like to know why you think that last quote is wrong/bad ? I'm not judging you by the way or anything. In a communist world, there is no "wealthy to live off and no elitist leaders. The whole point of living isn't trying to amass capital (hence control over others) anymore, it's to enrich your life. I don't know about you but working 4 days a week with 7 hrs shifts while learning and understanding the world better sounds pretty sweet to me. The problem I think people have is that they look at a communist world through capitalist eyes. I know I'm opening a can of worms here but I'd like to keep the flames to a minimum. The dictators are always wealthy in a totalitarian society. They keep the riches and give scraps to the masses. And it is human nature to "enrich your life" by amassing capital. Everyone would like to work only 28 hrs a week, but look at how well France's 35 hour work week worked out...

August 1991: No one is forcing you to buy products from the companies that advertise on Global TV. But someone is forcing you to fund the CBC. For an organization to succeed, it must satisfy the needs of its customers. A look at the ratings for CTV and Global indicates that they are more in tune with the general public. They have more viewers for their regular programming and for their national news programs (Lloyd Robertson-957,000 average viewers, Kevin Newman 771,000, and lastly Peter Mansbridge with 648,000). The CBC is the only station allowed to have a 24 hour news channel which is hostile to conservatives--hostile to me. That's why I resent being forced to pay for it. If their views are in tune with the general public, then they should be cut off the govt tit and see if they can make it on their own--like Global and CTV. The annual $1 billion saved could go towards lower taxation, more cops, and strenghtening our depleted military. Better priorities in my book.

Harper to name Michael Wilson as Ambassador to U.S.
Montgomery Burns replied to shoop's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How did Wilson sell us out? the FTA and NAFTA are the reasons that we have a trade surplus. The GST replaced a tax that was 6% higher (the Manufacturers Tax was 13%) and we are able to get rebates from this tax where we weren't able to get anything from the previous tax. I really like this appointment because along with some of the key cabinet positions it shows that Harper is supporting former Tories instead of Reformers and should help in the next election. Totally agree. Just one minor quibble--the MST was 13.5%. It originally started out at 9% but being a hidden tax, it was constantly nudged up. My prices dropped when the GST replaced the MST. Additionally, the duties (some as high as 18%) I was paying were phased out over 5 years. For all the previous uproar over NAFTA, I didn't hear any complaints from my customers. Mulroney did the right thing--our economy has been relatively prosperous since NAFTA. Members of the ruling party calling Americans morons, bastards, coalition of the idiots, stomping on a George Bush doll on State TV; it was deeply embarrassing and unprofessional. Having amicable relations with a wealthy country of 300 million that buys 85% of your exports is A Good Thing™. -
I voted no. I don't think the NDP would push for communism. Some of us are still armed and our military isn't incapable. But the NDP would implement far-left policies. Look at the official NDP Constitution: And more: Actually the last quote is from the official platform of the Communist Party of Canada. Both loathe private business and both want an unmotivated population where everyone scrapes by from month to month with table scraps from the wealthy (but lives in subsidized housing) elitist Dear Leader.

Why do you think the NDP has been so moderate with the majority they've had for six years in Manitoba? They've reduced taxes and balanced the budget every year. They are very closely affiliated with the federal NDP and even had an election post-mortem with them a couple of weeks ago. They've reduced taxes? Manitoba's top Provincial Tax rate is a whopping 17.4% and it kicks in at only $65,001. Manitoba's Basic Personal Amount is only $7734. Were taxes actually higher than this? How do you keep your best and brightest there if you are soaking them in taxation?
