  1. You may have bought into the 'war on terror' propaganda but I don't see it as a high priority - if fact I see it as counter productive. But that is okay. If you think it is worth fighting then you can rest assured your tax dollars are being used to pay for it. Meanwhile, my tax dollars will pay for things that I think are important: information radio programming that does not cater to the intellect of a 13 year boy.My point is not to suggest that the govt should choose between military spending and the CBC. I just want to point how arrogant it is for you to assume that every tax dollar has to be spent on programs that you approve of. This is a diverse country and government should meet the needs of different people. This means that it should spend money on questionable military adventures because it makes people like you feel safer. It also should spend money on public broadcasting because a lot of Canadians believe public broadcasting is important. Wow! I'm speechless! War on terror propaganda.... I guess there are no Islamonazis killing ppl in the Mid East, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Better to spend the money on a state-run Soviet-style TV channel that gets its ass whipped week after week, month after month, and year after year by Canada's 2 private stations. I guess it is true: Liberalism is a mental disorder. How pompous of you to think that with a choice of hundreds of TV channels out there, I should be forced to pay for a channel that mocks conservatives, mocks Catholics, says that PM Stephen Harper is the devil, promotes ball-waxing, graffiti, getting meathooks in your back, etc--to teenage Canadian children...
  2. David Suzuki is the typical anti-capitalist socialist leech. He is mooching off the taxpayer (he works for the CBC) and wants Canadians to drop their standard of living so he can continue to be a liberal elitist and look down his nose at the foolish masses who slave away paying taxes to this parasite...not to mention that he endorsed a NDP candidate--which is supposed to be a no-no when you are employed by the state-run TV station. But the media turns a blind eye. Wink wink...look the other way. Using the data of the global warming fearmongers, Kyoto is estimated to have cost about $154 billion so far, while only hypothetically reducing the average global temperature by 0.0015 degrees Centigrade. At this rate, it would take about 667 years and cost about $100 trillion to hypothetically avert just 1 degree Celcius of global warming. What a joke. Am I the only one who has noticed that the CBC never has anyone from "the right" debate him? There is a reason why....
  3. It would be nice if there was anything to this beyond accusations by Daniel Pipes. What a joke. Obviously you couldn't even be bothered to read the article, since it was written by Mira Boland, not Daniel Pipes. And you are claiming that Daniel Pipes is not an expert on the Middle East? What a joke!
  4. Google censors conservative sites?? HAHAHA now THAT is funny, just learn to search better. Google has refused to list Jihad-watch site 'MyPetJawa' in its news section, but it lists that Italian pro-Saddam website (sorry I forget its name). And Google has succumbed to the Communist Chinese govt and has censored sites that the commies do not agree with. A couple of weeks back, I saw the results when you typed "Tiamenen (sp?) Square" in Communist China's Google search engine. Nothing about that infamous day. Quite the difference when you google 'Tiamenen Square' in their Western search engine. How could you possibly not know of this? Didn't the CBC report this? I know, I know. Dumb question.
  5. 9 months to a year tops? Sounds like another person brainwashed by the liberal media. The fact is that the Liberals don't have a leader (and it appears that no one is exactly jumping for the chance at the job) and they are $30+ million in debt. The NDP is also in depth ($3 or $7 million--I forget the exact number). However the Conservative Party is about $10 million in the black. An Ipsos-Reid poll released on Feb 23 said the Conservatives have actually gained popularity since the election, and the numbers show a possible majority if an election was held now. Conservative support rose to 39% with the Liberals dropping to 27%. On Feb 25, an Ipsos-Reid/Canwest Global poll showed the approval rating of the Conservatives has reached 59%. For all the screeching by the media about the anger of the Emerson situation, it appears that the public does not agree. Harper is thinking long-term; building towards a majority status. I am confident he will do it. After all, no one ever accused us "neocons" of being incapable.
  6. August1991: That's an illogical comparison. Streetlights and the military don't mock me and my values. Btw, your $2.50 per month/$30 year numbers are wrong. There are about 17 million taxpayers paying $1 billion/yr towards the CBC--about $60/yr per taxpayer. And I find it interesting that you and Sparhawk find nothing wrong about the Liberal Party appointing CBCers to Governor General--a blatant conflict of interest. How can you trust someone from CBC to critically report on the Liberal Party--which would cost them their chance at the cushy Governor General job with its major perks and expense account?
  7. Monty, you can choose to direct your tax dollars to useless adventures in Afganistan. I choose to direct my tax dollars to the CBC. Problem solved. I don't have to pay for military projects that I don't support and you don't have to pay for a public broadcaster. I see. Overthrowing a regime that harbored terrorists is useless. O-kay. So what is the sense of having a military then? Should the military be disbanded and the taxpayer pay for more CBC ball-waxing videos?
  8. MB, you pay for paving roads on which trucks drive to deliver newspapers/magazines you disagree with. Is that wrong?Civilized society organizes itself to achieve its goals in the easiest, least cost way. MB, you'd have society choose another, moral (according to you) way to achieve its ends. Since you pay taxes to build roads, should you have the right to forbid transport of pork on a road because, as you note, you disagree with the consumption of pork? Should all roads be private? What criteria should we use for government intervention? ----- OMG, the Left and the Right is clueless about why the State exists, and why we have government. I don't have a choice when it comes to roads. I have many choices when it comes to TV--except for HBO (banned in Canada). Choice.
  9. Speaker: Varied set of viewpoints? I suggest you douse your head because it is on fire. It is extremely rare to even see a conservative on the CBC and most of their "investigative" shows are merely America-bashing fests. And for about the 10th time on this thread....the CBC gets its butt kicked in the ratings by Global and CTV. It seems that Canadians aren't watching CBC and its "Canadian values".
  10. I guess Chretien and Martin never had "it" either. Right? They refused to even tell the public about this--unlike Scott McLellan.
  11. Thanks guys. I was too lazy to Dogpile it (I don't use Google because of their censorship of conservative websites while approving pro-Saddam sites)
  12. Let's talk apples and apples, instead of apples and oranges. Why won't you address my points? Quit trying to blur this with analogies of paved roads and 20 lb bags of potatoes. Why should conservatives be forced to fund a hard-left TV station that constantly mocks and ridicules conservatives? Can I force you to pay me to come over to your house and mock and ridicule you?
  13. Where the hell is Combermere? (3rd paragraph) I've never heard of it.
  14. MB, you paid about $2.50 in February for everything the CBC did, including Bill Richardson in drag. I think that's cheap. ---- Let me be more direct. You can pay the $2.50 by listening to irritating and repeated advertising jingles that you don't listen to and for products you are not in the market for and have no intention to buy. Or, you can pay $2.50 through your taxes and avoid the adverts and noisy jingles. IMHO, I think the tax scheme is a better way to pay. ---- This thread is really about why the CBC is so Liberal-slash-left wing. I think the CBC should hire Anne Coulter as a news commentator. Better, the CBC should hire Mark Steyn to do two hours a day. MB, if the CBC hired Mark Steyn to broadcast for two hours after Anna-Maria Tremonte, would you be happy, MB? (It'd be all commercial-free.) Hell, I'd pay $2.50 a month for that. I'd rather take that $2.50/mth ($30/yr) and take Kelly out for supper....or invest that $30....or buy a pair of pants for myself....or buy Kelly a naughty/nice piece of lingerie...or have us go to a movie. Would I wish that Ann Coulter or Mark Steyn had equal time on the CBC to rebut their social liberalism? Of course! But you and I know that would never happen. I would prefer Steyn (who I believe is one of today's the most important social and political commentators) over Coulter, but you are going off topic. Again, I repeat, I see no reason why the state should be competing against its private citizens. The "state" had a 5 year ban on the wildly successful private Fox News Channel; a news source that offers more open debate than any channel in Canada--even more than Global. Again, why am I forced to pay for a channel that mocks me and my values? I'm just a regular joe--like the 36.5% of Canadians who voted conservative. I'm not a bad guy and I do not deserve to be mocked--with my own tax dollars. You are missing my point. I do not think that Stephen Harper is the devil. I do not think that the CBC should be targetting teens for ball waxing, meathooks in their back and swinging across the ceiling, promoting vandalism, having a guy dressed up in high heels, panties, and a bustier licking a cutout drawing of Harper, comparing a book about Jesus to Adolf Hitler, comparing the guy I voted for as the devil, videos of 2 men sticking their tongues down each others throats, drunk/stoned teen girls fantasizing about "doing" the fuzzy boom microphone, teens declaring "I hate clothes" and streaking thru a parking lot full of ppl--and likely children, an American expat who goes into a long tirade about how America (a country I admire) sucks--and concludes that "George Bush is a monkey", and cartoons showing a guy getting a "boner" in class. I'd rather spend that $30 buying Kelly a dozen roses and putting her in a great mood which will.....well, ya know. Again, for the 3rd or 4th time, why am I forced to pay for something I disagree with? Choice. Does anyone know what this means? Places like Cuba, North Korea, Saddam's Iraq, and Europe have state-run TV. Why does Canda want to emulate these failed societies? Again, why am I forced to pay for something I disagree with? It's a TV channel, not a life and death situation for some sick person. They can't even compete with Canada's 2 private stations. Why am I forced to prop up a channel that refuses to divulge their expenses for their trip to Lousiana for a Katrina fundraiser? I am paying for that trip and they damn well should divulge their expenses to Louisiana!
  15. August1991, perhaps I should have used sarcasm tags. Newbie said that Bush had "lost it". I am merely pointing out the that perhaps the Liberals "lost it" by doing virtually the same thing. One can make reasonably make the claim that Canada is doing the same thing as Bush. It makes the Canadian left's "we are morally superior than the US" claim look hypocritical.
  16. True. However I think that a healthcare premium is a good thing. It reminds people that healthcare is NOT "free". I run into many people who run to the doctor for the flu...or take their child to the doctor because the kid fell down and scraped its knee. Things like that are a gross waste of money when the healthcare system is a bloated bureaucracy. A healthcare premium reminds ppl that there is a big cost for doctors and nurses. Something perceived to be "free" is always abused.
  17. Khadeej: Bwahahahaha!! Have you forgotten about the Internet? Do you think that no one has watched Memri TV on the web? We are watching you. Anyone who is a political junkie has seen the racist bigoted hate-filled garbage that is on Saudi TV. Air America - hate radio - looks tolerant compared to the crap spewed on Saudi TV. The Saudis make the Western left look tolerant and compassionate. As an aside, in my travels on the world wide web, I have found Middle Eastern women, in general, to be the most hateful, bigotted and racist people on the planet. Nasty disgusting women!
  18. Video of state-run taxpayer-funded CBC mocking Stephen Harper in a...gay wedding? Canadian conservative tax dollars at work! CBC employee Bill Richardson--in drag wearing high heels, panties, and a bustier--licking a cutout of Stephen Harper and saying "today, a brand new sun is rising on Canadian politics". Then the male masseuse lowers the towel exposing Richardson’s rear-end and Richardson asks: "Is that the crack of dawn?" Hahaha. That's so funny. Then they cut to a mock gay wedding between Richardson and his male counterpart (at "Dude Cottage"), who are being married by a woman dressed as a priest holding a mask of Stephen Harper over her face and who, instead of holding a bible, is holding a Stephen Harper biography book. When told they may now kiss, Richardson lifts the veil covering the face of his male partner, and reveals not his partner but a what we are to believe is a devil in the form of Stephen Harper, complete with ominous flashing green eyes. And there is even more from the CBC's Bill Richardson video: Jesus = Hitler: The crossdressing Richardson reviews the latest book by famous American author Ann Rice, called “Christ the Lord - Out of Egypt”. In his recipe for this book, he makes the bizarre statement that as a “garnish” for the book, which follows the life of Jesus up to the age of 12, you should also read a book called Young Adolf—about the life of Adolf Hitler up to the age of 12. They then zoom in on the cover of the Young Adolf book. Again, from my OP, why? Why in the everloving #$@$@# am I forced to pay for this crap? I'm not even religious and and I find this offensive. I'm no prude--definitely not but I resent being forced to pay for this crap! Perhaps I'm just not "progressive". It is time to privatize the CBC. Only banana republics have a state-run channel run by hedonistic hard-leftists who mock traditional values. What the hell is wrong with Canadians who insist that Canada should have a state-run channel? And don't give me that "Canadian culture" crap? You've all seen the ratings. If the CBC is so confident that their "Canadian values" resonant with the public, then they should have no probs making it out there in the "real world" without funding of $1 billion annually. Right?
  19. Oh fer cripes sake, Sparhawk. Week after week, month after month, and year after year the CBC's ratings are poor, but you are trying to push the results of some poll 2 years ago as a justification for having a state-run taxpayer-funded TV station. Why won't you be honest? Come out and admit it. You want conservative Canadians to continue to fund a hard-left anti-conservative propaganda news station because you are frightened of losing control of (dis)information for the Canadian public. Whoa! Hang on a second. Apparent bias (which does exist) is no excuse to remove the CBC. I have no problem with them speaking their views and personally, though conservative, I enjoy watching the CBC as a perspective of those different than I in politics. When we start axing media for bias I'm seriously concerned for our future in a democracy. However, state ownership of media is a valid reason to remove the CBC, and it can be argued across these lines fairly. It troubles me that a media outlet is funded by those that should be their primary target of criticism. Something is wrong with that concept, no? Whoa nothing. I resent being forced to pay for a channel that repeatedly mocks conservatives--a channel that repeatedly mocks me and my values. If they were private, they can do whatever the hell they want. Watch the video in my next post and ask yourself why you are forced to pay for this--this that is mocking you and your values? Can you recall the state-run CBC mocking Layton and Martin in this fashion? This is a democracy? A station that is very wary of mocking liberals? Of course they are leery? Would you mock liberals if you knew that it might cost you your chance at getting the cushy Governor Generalship of Canada?
  20. You can shove your "racist" claim you know where. Whatsa matter? Americans do it--bad. Canadians do it--good. Fricking smug morally superior hypocritical Canadians... Canadian Coast Guard inspects shipments at port controlled by UAE--good. US Coast Guard inspects shipements of port controlled by UAE--bad. And it is similar. Don't you know what a lease is?
  21. Sparhawk: Oh fer cripes sake, Sparhawk.
  22. Actually, it is quite common to lump "strongly agreed" and "somewhat agreed" together. However it is just a survey. And why are you wasting yor time replying to August1991's ridiculous "20 pounds of potatoes" analogy for the CBC? Pffft.
  23. August 1991, the taxpayers should not be funding artists. If their art is so good, they should be able to make it on their own. I would not appreciate funding "art" like Piss Christ and the Madonna smeared with elephant dung farce...and I am not even religious. If artists think that crap like that will sell, they should have no problem making it on their own. Right?
  24. Too bad that Harper isn't visiting the troops in Afghanistan on Thanksgiving. I'd like to see a pic of Harper with a tray of turkey so the left could repeat their bullsh*t "it's a plastic turkey!!" meme--just like they did with Dubya.
  25. What the hell were they thinking? Turning over a major Canadian port to a country with ties to terrorists? Duh. Dubai Ports World has lease at Port of Vancouver Newbie, what's going on?!
