You are talking about Taliban/Al Queda in Afghanistan throwing acid on school girls and extremists, who are not in Iran, blowing themselves up in marketplace or cutting people's heads. I'm assuming that you don't know what the mindset of many of the settlers are for you to make a comment like that. What he shares with almost all settlers is the vision of Greater Israel which includes the Palestinian land. Many of these settlers have engaged in violent acts towards the Palestinians. They're mostly all extremists and support the ethnic cleansing of the Arabs which they see as occupants of their land. Just look at this settler boy, the settler woman and the soldiers:

I am against religious extremism and at the same time, even though I am an atheist, I am also a big advocate of freedom of religion and expression. I feel that many of the Western laws that are in place, protect the society from different forms of religious extremism that many fear would override our laws. I believe the Swiss overreacted. I wonder what percentage of the Swiss actually participated in the voting.

Your question or point or whatever you're trying to get across is moot. There is no point in trying to compare the two, because the situation and the circumstance is different. The ban is for a religious structure for a specific religion while other religious structures for other religions are allowed to be built.

That is a naive comment to make. They are proposing to ban a religious symbol while allowing others to have their religious symbol. That's discrimination.
