yea, but my point is still valid... there will always be crime when there is inequality. Even with government regulation there is likely to be criminal activity. I have a solution though... if we decriminalize everything... that means there will be no crime... Success!

Do you vote to bailout the banks and the corporations?

So because 60% of people in alberta want to separate means the 40% that don't get no say whatsoever? I would say you need much more than a majority to seperate from Canada... more around the 85-90% mark. Not to mention most Albertans are stupid.Known fact. I live here and they are definitely stupid. They also don't even bother to consider the legalities and formalities or separation... they just want to separate because "the east" is being meanies and wanna take our oil like it's somehow our resource because we found it and we shouldn't have to share. Albertans are selfish pieces of garbage. They have no say. Well i shouldn't say ALL... but the majority for sure.

If i could take a guess my guess would be... the administrative branch of the company gets a pay raise? Is that it? do i win? But seriousness... it's not about cutting corporate tax.. It's the big idea that they are really actually helping Canadians out. The seperatists have always held the balance of power... liberals and NDP could shoot it down, the BQ could vote for it and it would go through... what's your point? Nothing has changed here except the liberals and NDP are voting together (which they normally do anyways)...

Hmm, well your theory is already gone, because we see it here, and the US... so where do we take it from here. I don't know the full extent of the Amsterdam situation... and who is to say it's going to help? They THINK it'll work... can't really comment on the situation until we see what happens after they shut it all down. While poverty and inequality exists and the world is governed by greed there will be crime.... not saying there will be equality and no poverty... but to think there is a utopia on either side of the spectrum is ludicrous. I don't think there can be a Utopian right, and human nature does not allow a Utopian left. Everyone is too selfish in the world.

Keep their money, while the health care system becomes privatized and they have to pay for that straight out of their pocket. along with all the other stuff people already pay for, rent, insurance, food, water. Sure it helps our the small business a bit, doesn't really do much for a big business since they can get around most of their taxes anyways. it definitely does not help the lower class. And whether or not it helps the middle class is debatable. But we are acting as though thats the only issue in politics... There is not party that represents social and economic liberalism. But that would divide the right again and likely give the liberals a minority government.

We just had an election... what came of that... nothing different than before... harper called an election cause he thought he could possibly win a majority While, by the way, going against a bill he put forward, passed by parliament... for FIXED elections, not at the whim of the prime minister. How am i defending this change in government? I am defending the legality of a coalition and it's ability to take power in a time such as this. I don't know what side to take on this issue... i don't think either party (or coalition) can really do anything for our economy. One thing that is for sure is that Harper is acting in self-interest and not on behalf of Canadians. And i think many people would agree on that. If you don't you are blind or ignorant. To say the Liberal Party does not do the same thing while they are in power would be narrow minded. But one thing they didn't do was attempt to destroy other political parties through cutting their funding, and they could have easily during the 90s and early 2000's considering they had a majority government. Not saying they didn't make some bad decisions... but don't be surprised, if the conservatives end up with a majority, if there is some sort of scandal happening or something Canadians don't want to happen but have no say in the matter.

Would you agree that prohibition of alcohol created a lot of organized crime? A stronger stance on drug trade is not going to alleviate any crime... It will create more crime... because with drugs comes money... with more strict laws, means less supply and less dealers... meaning more money... meaning more crime over the money that can be made over the drugs. here's a better solution... legalization. Do you agree that what somebody does with their body is their prerogative? Of course you would need regulation and licensing.... Along with educating young people on what drugs can do to your body and the facts of addiction. Stronger laws against drug crime is not the answer... look at all the money being thrown at it in the US, and what has become of that? nothing. oh maybe more crowded jails for when they do actually bust people... spending more tax dollars on things that could be prevented.

Honestly if you say you supported either of the three parties and move over to the conservatives... you never really supported any of the three parties in the first place.
-
So what you're saying is that the middle and lower class supports nobody? because we have to face the facts... unless you are uneducated about the conservative party, you know they are not here to help out lower or middle classes. They may use their sneaky tactics and lower GST by another %, but behind that is the cutting of taxes for major companies and corporations. But people seem to dumb to understand this.... it's the reason the liberals stayed in power for so long and it's the reason they are up in arms against the coalition... They don't know what the hell is going on and it's time for people to have to take a class on political systems and pass an exam on it before they should be allowed to vote... because honestly this is just ridiculous.
-
Be careful when you use the term liberalism.... it's not the same as being A Liberal. In fact you should be the one supporting liberalism....
-
The fact you call it a coup shows how ignorant you are. Along with the rest of the Canadian public who have no idea whats going on but decides to vote in a pole anyways. The fact you put numbers of different poles in the same sentence really damages your credibility.

Hooray for the western standard.

SAD CHRISTMAS NEWS FROM PARLIMENT HILL
-VMG- replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
People can, except the government of Canada is supposed to embody all religions... so either they have all or none. but because some people would be even more offended if they had all of them... it's best to have none. -
Does the coalition represent the majority?
-VMG- replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You know why they have coalitions? because Proportional representation creates minority governments most of the time, unless one party can gain a ton of support from the public. You have to look beyond a simple electoral system... i already stated it.... PR produces minority governments... hence they need coalitions to sustain some sort of order within their parliament. Nothing would get done if there was no coalitions... Coalitions are simply long-term alliances within a minority government... the conservatives have to make temporary alliances all the time to get their bills passed.... or they can do what harper does and force them to vote for his bills by making them confidence votes. The only difference between the current government and a coalition government is that now what was the opposition will be calling the shots... and since the Bloc is not part of the coalition they will be the balance... Which for many is scary because they are "seperatists" and want to destroy Canada according to the conservatives. Please learn about political systems. -
I won't deny "left wing" hypocrisy if you won't deny "right wing" hypocrisy.

Nah just conservative.

The conservatives are attempting to tell the public that what the coalition is doing is not democracy... when it is. The fact that the cons took those things off the bill and they still are going is saying that it's the principle of the matter... The idea that Harper is going too far, and he needs to be replaced. If people actually knew what was going on in Ottawa they would understand why this is happening. First it's a minority government... the conservatives do not have any more right to rule than any other party. They just need less support from everybody else than the others would to gain a majority on a bill. Also Harper is forcing the opposition to vote for bills by making many of them confidence votes, playing into the "the opposition forced us into ANOTHER election, only a few months after the last" when the reality is the conservatives are forcing them to vote for bills that they don't agree with because it will hurt their reputation with Canadians. And finally if Canadians were informed that this is one of the balances of power in our democracy, and that it is perfectly legal, there would be less people talking about how it's undemocratic and how it is a "coup" against the government.... this coincides with the whole minority government deal. That is what i meant by uneducated... as in uneducated politically. The conservatives are playing their game perfectly... it's up to the media and the coalition to dispel their misinformation and fear tactics. I personally think that both sides are playing games, and they need to stop being selfish and try to figure out what is best for the country in the current state of the economy. Not that i think anything can actually be done considering there is too much international influence on our economy for us to really make a difference. -
Is that supposed to be a joke?
-
Them bad men whos gunna take ar freedum en ar right ta vote. I mean the conservatives obviously got a majority! Thems gunna steal the Canadians wills!

Corporations won't be around forever... maybe we need to cut our losses before our losses cut us. They will always go where the money is. -

The sad fact is the public seem to eat it up like a tasty piece of cake... He does play his part very well... to me he looks like an arrogant ass... to some he looks like a beacon of hope in a time of despair. I think if the coalition finds a way to inform the public and persuade them to keep cool heads... then we might not fall into the evil plan... What harper should want is an immediate election... but he also doesn't want to seem eager... many people are in emotional disarray over this coalition. If there was a vote today, i personally believe there would be a lot of regret in a very short amount of time. -

I see it as a enraged misinformed public that no one is giving information to. Of course emotion of the public who are uneducated on our democracy is going to flock to the only people telling them what democracy is (which is a lie in this case). In this case being the conservatives. I think if the media actually attempted to inform the public on what is going on things would look different. But it seems like the CBC at least is just attempting to make news worthy stories for viewers.. and no focussing on the facts. -
Now is the time to call an Election!
-VMG- replied to rparrish's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I read part of it... and i'll comment on it... but seriously the wall of text is not your friend.... please make some paragraphs... your 2 cents might be worth that if you. Not being mean but honestly it's very hard to follow a post that is one long paragraph. As far as what i read. What is an election going to do? Put another minority government in place? That's not going to get anything done. Hopefully all parties can come to some sense and see that Canadians want an election if this is going to happen... and since thats a waste of money, they should work together to govern the country. Neither side is doing the right thing... how harper leads creates a very unstable and resentful house of commons. How the other parties act, as much as they believe it is the best for the country.. at this time it apparently isn't. We don't want an election based on emotions on either side... there will be people who will regret their vote of anger rather than reason. If you could please seperate your paragraph i would love to comment on the rest. -
Because if we separated we would be hypocrites. People are mad at the coalition because the Bloc support it... what does it make us if we separate from Canada?
