  1. Yes bad timing indeed.... but i still don't think we would hear the end from the hardcore conservatives that are to stubborn about how harper sold out and why are we working with commies and blah blah blah. I don't know what socialism is but they told me to hate it so i do.
  2. Don't get me wrong... i don't think ANYONE should have a majority government. You can let the conservatives have a minority... but i really don't think the way harper is playing is in the best interest of the country. Confidence votes all over the place... people need to realize this is vote against his style of governing... he's also full of hypocrisies himself. He plays into the emotion of the people.... liberals lose votes because the media plays into this as well by saying the opposition voted down the government... when really it's both sides. Liberals may be hypocrites but don't discount the conservative hypocrisies either.
  3. The part i heard from Harper was complete fear mongering... and apparently everyone ate that up. I am hoping Canadians aren't as stupid as i think they are at this particular point in time. A coalition may not be the answer... but don't make the mistake of giving Harper a majority government in the process.
  4. That is a pretty arrogant statement Oleg. Considering a lot of the conservatives don't seem to understand how our democracy even works... i could call them the stupid ones... but it's all perspective. I could make a bet you don't actually know what communism is... and would simply say... it's what the soviet union was.... but i don't want to make that assumption because i don't know you. In reality most conservatives likely do not know what socialism is, and when they think they see it they throw it in as communism.... Where people go wrong is when they mix Theoretical ideologies with Empirical ideologies... and bunch them together.
  5. the so called "democracy" rallies seriously run by people who have no idea what the hell they are talking about. They are completely misinformed about the situation.. and the media is not helping this. This IS our democracy.... the conservatives have a minority... and the way the conservatives are running the parliament is in a way that they are using the misinformed public. They make things a confidence vote, if opposition does not a agree but do not want to risk an election (people get pissed off when there are elections because it costs money and is an inconvenience) they have to vote for the bill. Because if they vote it down, it plays into the conservatives because people will think it was the opposition that created this election when in reality it had a lot to do with the "governing" party.
  6. Majority of seats in the house is not the same as the majority/minority of the popular vote. Liberals had a majority of seats... same with the conservatives in the 80s... where as now conservatives do not hold the majority of seats in the house. It's not the best system but it's what we have to work with. Other systems have their flaws as well. and also technically it does represent the majority... it's just that there are several parties in the mix... if we didn't have partisan politics there wouldn't be such a big deal about it.
  7. They still need support from the majority of representatives... They are given the ability to put forth bills and such for a vote. But the other parties need to agree with the "governing" party in order to get it passed. A big reason why the Harper government has retained minority government for a while is because they make everything a confidence vote. If the liberals can't afford an election they have to agree with the conservatives on the issue otherwise there will be another election. Our political state and the people in charge of the parties are ALL participating poorly. Not just this coalition, but also the conservative government. Minority government is the way to go... proportional representation allows for it to happen more often... and creates a better representation of who Canadians really voted for. First-past-the-pole is old and needs to be changed. Of course the party in charge would never put it in place because they would lose a decent amount of seats in parliament. On a side note: Partisan politics is also majorly to blame with our political system.... At times it can be beneficial... but other times it can be quite detrimental.
  8. Canadians elected representatives to make the best choices for their constituents in Ottawa. They did not vote for a party. This is what a minority government is... it is not about who hold the largest minority... it's about who can band together to make a decision that is best for Canada. In essence in the situation where no party receives a majority, Canadians did in FACT vote for a coalition. In reality, every time the conservatives go to pass a bill, they need to create a temporary coalition in order to have the majority of parliament behind their bill. It's actually very undemocratic to say that the conservatives were given the right to govern by canadians, when in actuality NO PARTY was given the right to govern the country. I think this is what people are forgetting about the idea of a minority government. Conservatives were not elected to govern. They simply have more seats than all other minorities. Therefore, it is the majority who governs the country in this case. I really don't see how it is possible to have a Prime Minister under a minority government. THAT is undemocratic... and doe snot represent the views of the population of Canada.
