Didn't Scientists once think the world was flat and that thalidomide was a good thing during pregnancy? Whats wrong with "fringe benefits"? I'm sure the workers at Boeing are organized if thats your problem......Whats wrong with making the country safe, and at the same time make shareholders rich and have people working? I thought the NDP loved Pork? Guess you could also use that as the reason that the NDP has never formed a federal government eh? Could you say that Quebec has felt "longstanding ethno-religious tensions" for close to 250 years? Small nothing Country? What do you think Canada currently is? At worst, the West would become a first world, not just Oil, but resource rich nation with an equal footprint on the world stage that Canada currently holds......and I think the West, free of Ottawa, would have unlimited potential, thus playing a much more positive role in namely the growing Pacific Rim and to a lesser extent the rest of the world. Whats wrong with that?

Would you happen to know the ratio of "ownership"? I don't care if Duceppe was a communist or not, it's irrelevant when it comes to Quebec seperation and it's irrelevant to the doors that will be opened up to the west when Quebec leaves. What I find eerie, is the possable parallels that can be drawn between todays Canada and post Tito Yugoslavia.....You couldn't ask for a better cast of characters to reenact the FRY's break-up......Ontario can play the role of the "centralised power mongering Serbs", Quebec can play the Roman Catholic Slovenes, the West as Croatia and the Atlantic Provinces can play the abused Bosnian Muslims..........

It's a moot point, the important question is who controls the money generated from the Oil and Gas industry, the answer is obvious....... I'm a Western Separatists, that lives on the Western part of Vancouver Island. My first choice would be a "united Canada" in which all regions have an equal say in how their lives are run. As was made clear by the last few federal elections, the "east/Ont" don't want this, so the "West" can do one of two things, put up with it or leave. If things don't go our way, instead of bitching and moaning about it, we should make things go our way by becoming "masters of our own destiny". Now I don't really believe that most British Columbians are either fore or against the idea, they just don't really see it as an option as of yet and I don't really see it as serious option until Quebec leaves. Once Quebec leaves, then I could see the West looking towards this option for the reason that we will see that it can be done.

The ABM Treaty was signed between the United States and Soviet Union......the Soviet Union no longer exists.......regardless, any form of the currnetly proposed defence system is not a threat towards Russia or China. 4. Syria, Iran, and North Korea (to name a few) you claim don't pose a threat towards you, but both the Democrats and Republicans, the Conservatives and Liberals seem to think they do No you didn't, you found a couple of quotes that clamied other wise, no proof there Again, you might not think of them as threats, but both national parties within Canada and the United States do.......whats your/the NDP's credentials to prove other wise?

Yes, they are a threat. As for cost, thats the nature of the beast.......still doesn't change anything. The Maginot line would have worked if the German's had of attacked it........just like ABM defence will work if the United States is attacked by ICBMs.......as I've said many times, the ABM defence is designed to defend against ICBMs, and ICBMs are still being built all over the world. Now if ICBMs were not being built, and everbody was taking their old ones apart, then you might have a point

Thats funny MS.......I'll never vote Green federally, but next year I'll look at the BC provincial Green party and compare my local candidate's chances with the local Conservative candidate and vote for who ever has the better chance of winning in my riding.........anything to make sure the NDP doesn't get it in, well not voting for Gordon (even though I think he'll still win).

People still go to the Middle East to work in the Oil industry, and look at the $hithole that place is.......are you saying that Alberta is going to be worse then Iraq Or could it be said that many people from back east rely on Alberta for work? Regardless, would you move your family from a good job to nothing, because Alberta wants to better itself? The rest of Canada will have long since "run out" as a nation long before Alberta "runs out of oil".......

I know very much what the word deterrent means, and with ABM defence, they no longer have a deterrent..... ........Or North Korea could contiune to sell off their missile technology (as they have been doing for decades), and add to the "menu" nuclear warheads........in which case, the ABM sheild will very much be useful. So you don't know were the money will come from now?
