Read my lips, no new tax cuts: PM
Stoker replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Do you pay taxes? -
Have you ever been in a combat zone? (I haven't) Are you an authority on combat related stress? (I'm not) Where did I excuse the American? Has the United States proper been attacked since 9/11?
-
If there were grounds for war crimes, do you not think that certain United Nation member states would look at that? If what Bush did was illegal, why is it that the members of the security counsel that we're opposed to the invasion, not table a resoultion against the United States?
-
No, I read the entire piece, added to the fact that I choose to keep abreast of the issue.......living in a foresty dependent community and all. Again: And if the first line isn't enough to tell you who "won"........tell, is Canadian lumber flowing through the boarder tariff free? The Tariffs may be lessend, but they won't go away untill we stop trying to low-ball the prioce of our lumber.

More barbarity in Iraq.........Indeed Now in the case of the United States Marine, nothing has been proven (ie that it was infact unjustified), for all we know this could have been a nervous 19 year old that heard the stories (as mentioned above) of booby trapped bodies, wounded terrorists begging for treatment only to pull a pin out of a grenade when the medic came close or this could be the act of a cold blooded killer. Either way, the soldier is entitled to due process, and because of that, I think casting judgement is premature. Now Black Dog, will you use the same rancor towards the killers of Margaret Hassan?

Perhaps I didn't make my self clear enough for you caesar......IOW, we need to the United States to protect us from the after affects of mother nature......case in point Quebec Ice storms and Manitoba floods.....and the eventual "big one" we will get out here........ I wonder how many dope smoking anti-american hippies in Vancouver would be screaming if we had the "big one" and in turn had no power, heat, food or drinking water for a mater of months because Canada couldn't fly the nessacary supplies into abbordsford airport........ I wonder how many people in Quebec (Ice storms), Manitoba (floods) and Halifax (Hurricane) would have faced greater hardships if it was not for the Americans. And good forbid, we suffer from a major terrorists attack (be it WMD or conventional), who is going to be there to help us at a drop of a hat? We have boarder disputes with both the Americans and Danes.......only the Danes have landed in our territory with military personal. And if you feel that way, why do you wish to antagonize them further by starting a trade war? You do understand we put unfair tariffs (As deemed by the United States) on American dairy and poultry products? You also understand that the WTO has decided with the Americans on lumber? WTO backs U.S. duties on Canada lumber Did you ever think that we maybe in the wrong?
-
.........I was thinking more along the lines of the Quebec Ice storms and the Manitoba floods (amongest pretty much anything else that threatens us). Yes, and those that beleived that most likely are in the 33%.......... As I mentioned above.....we can't defend ourselves from mother nature, let alone a determined attack........or even an advance into out terrority.......case in point, the recent landing of a Danish military team onto one of our Artic Islands that is beleived to be resource rich. The Danish are hardly superpowers........ What about Spain and the turbot crisis? They came close to sending the "Armada" off the east coast over fishing rights....... Tell me Maple, if the Spain did indeed send their fleet, and let's say their tensions where hightend over what they really where, and let's pretend that they declared a maritime exclusions zone around the grand banks........how are Canadians "going to be there"? And keep in mind, both these countries are not Superpowers. Ahhhh.....romanticism..isn't that cute You and Carlyle are very much mistaken.......who's going to stop the United States? Nobody, except the United States......and that won't happen as long as they keep doing whats best for themselves.

No kidding.......I think this topic has leaped to the next level of stupidity. I shall gracefully bow out....... -
I wonder if those 33% understand that over 80% of our exports go to the US........ever hear the saying "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face?" Do you understand that might makes right? What do you think us cutting off power will achieve? Will a hypothaical tariff on the Canadian automotive industry help maters? What about the United States no longer defending us?

By the time this technology has matured, I think it's possable that anything Chinese hit by something from the United States will not be of an accidental nature. -

Do you think it would be more prudent to have attacked him in a few years when he would have rebuilt? Do you (or anyone else) think that the contaminate stance would have worked? Sanctions & Embargoes etc? Will the average Iraqi be better off with a democratic country or a dictorship and sanctions? Do you not think that down the road when Iraq is stable and Democratic, that this will be a plus for the middle east? The World? -
US To Deploy Hyper-Missiles
Stoker replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Yeah, it launched at a British Tornado, which had a malfunctioning "friend or foe" transponder.......IIRC, that happend twice with British aircraft.......which is the fault of a RAF, not Patriot........and Patriot still splashed both targets -

Stoker replied to The Terrible Sweal's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of course they didn't.......at the time, Iraq had the third or forth largest standing army in the world........so it's not a stretch to beleive, that though a small portion (compared to the entire army), the consripts in Kuwait where infact a large number in relative terms. The United States built command facilties and airbases in the 70s and 80s in Saudi Arabia as part of the deal to sell the Saudis modern American weapons, such as the F-15 fighter and the E-3 Sentry airborne early warning aircraft. King Khalid Military City Odd that American forcers would show up easier well in camps in the middle of the desert, when compared to Iraqi forces that where garrsioned within Kuwait city -

Whats to counter? Infact, the only point that we seem to be in disagrement in is in the cause of the first gulf war, and if the Americans started it. I don't know whats to refute??? Had not Iraq long considered Kuwait to be a part of Iraq? Was there not a dispute between Iraq and Kuwait over Kuwaiti oil fields "tapping" into Iraqi terrority? Did Iraq not owe Kuwait large sums of money in the form of loans during the Iraq-Iran war? Isn't this all common knowledge? -
Thought I'd add this also: BC Green Party platform Socreds BC Unity Party..........I'm kinda looking at As I mentioned above, In this election I'm going to look at the Unity Party, that in unless my riding is close between NDP and the Liberals, in which case I'll vote Liberal. I do find the Unity Parties platform intresting, a few points that I find intresting: Create a 'Partners in Productivity' plan that will involve the expansion of hydro electric power in BC, open up the mining industry with particular emphasis on precious metals like copper, silver, and gold, and rejuvenate the forest industry by restoring appurtenancy and moving to a market-based system that is open to small, medium and large operators. Build co-generation power plants that recover scrap wood products, chips and beetle-infested wood Explore, develop and produce the gas and oil on the Northwest Coast and across the province. Build the necessary rigs, dams, pipelines, bridges, roads, plants and infrastructure to carry out the plan. Constitutionalize Balanced Budgets to prevent massive deficits and high taxes, and require citizen approval via referendum to run a deficit or raise taxes. Provide incentives to the Mining Industry to create tens of thousands of new jobs. Stimulate new apprenticeship programs to create more skilled trades. The decision to privatize or nationalize major public assets must be approved by the people of BC by way of referendum. Begin an incremental tax reduction program, moving to a single rate of tax on incomes within five years, as in Alberta. Increase the Basic Personal Exemption from $8,300 to $16,500 (equivalent to full time minimum wage) to create greater equity in the tax system, while providing incentives for people to work. Exempt construction materials made in BC from provincial sales tax. Create a world class, publicly owned, private health clinic to provide surgeries for international clients as a means of keeping our best and brightest doctors in BC, and to generate new revenues for public health care in BC. Provide forgivable post secondary education loans to all BC students who qualify and remain in BC to work and pay taxes for a minimum of 5 years after graduation. Democratize the workplace by re-introducing the secret ballot. Provide the means for workers to prohibit Labour Unions from using their members’ dues to promote political and social causes. Establish a community-based BC Provincial Police Force, as in Quebec and Ontario. Province to administrate immigration to BC, as is done in Quebec Well thats more then a few I guess.......

True. Where is that? So they wish to become the government of BC, by asking for the people of British Columbian's vote, but they don't require to put for a plan/platform......... Whats the difference between that or them just coming out and saying that Campbell is bad, we are good, look at us in the 90s, but forget the bad stuff, so put your "X" next to the NDP? I'd be intrested to see some poll numbers.......do you know if there are any out? Remember though, the pendulum swings both ways.........would you have put money on Bush winning 6-7 months ago? Be honest. Like what? Drunk driving and a few aides selling drugs? In both cases, where they not punished or in the process of being punished? Have any of these wrongs hurt the pocket books of British Columbians, like how the NDP did? Again, what makes you think the majority's wishes will be filled by the NDP, and what makes you think that the majority will vote for the NDP? How did Clark get elected? Did you vote for him?

US To Deploy Hyper-Missiles

Why? In comparison to a 60 year old iron "retarded" bomb, a modern JDAM is very smart......... Remeber how useless the first aircraft were? What about phones? The Mercury rockets? In the second gulf war, the Patriot had 12 engagments, and splashed all twelve targets.......... -

Where's the spin? What came first: A) Iraqi invasion of Kuwait -Or- UN sanctions Again, what spin.....The United States government launched the probe and the first findings are that a French bank had it's fingers in the Iraqi pie. Do you not think Arab people can handle a democracy? In a democracy can not the will of the people decide if it will be "pro-US" country? And didn't Nazi Germany have a decent standard of living (pre-war)? I assumed that your list of links where all to support the theory that the United States encouraged the invasion of Kuwait, based on the fact that you posted a quote of mine that was addressd to caesar in a conversation about the said subject. To avoid confusion in the future, perhaps you should post the link that supports your point in the same paragragh. -
US To Deploy Hyper-Missiles
Stoker replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Care to expand on that? I tend to disagree, based on the fact that during WW II and Korea to hit a specifc target (say a bunker) it would require hundreds of bombers, dropping thousands of tons of high explosive, killing thousands of people......now compare that to todays standards.......I think they have every right to call them "smart bombs". -
All of thats your opinion on what the NDP should do, but I want to know what the NDP plans on doing and how they will do it........I've yet to see either. You raise an intresting point caesar, in that the government now has to have a balance budget. Perhaps this is why we have not heard anything form the NDP in the way of a plan/platform.........They can't promise the moon, since they can't go into the red and I doubt they will campaign on raising taxes......

Put the Horse before the cart Boondoggle........then we will talk. Sure they can......but that doesn't prove that Bush is stealing their oil money now does it? Does the majority of Iran wish to have their current form of government? Even if they did at one point, do they have the option to change it? I know, there was an uprising in the South and in the North by the Kurds......it furthers my belief that the Americans should have removed Saddam in 91 So how does this excuse Saddam from resoultion 688? WRT your links, sort through the chaff and post the ones that state the Americans encouraged Saddam into Kuwait. Post the link.......I won't waste my time going through a conspiracy theroy website to prove your point. Again post the link or better yet, post a link to where these nuts gotr their proof......but really, don't insult my intelligence by linking to a site thats selling a movie -
I don't mind removing trans-fats, I just don't need the Nanny state telling me whats bad and whats good for me....... If the government is soooo worried in what I put into MY body, why is there not a ban on tobacco and alcohol products? With that said, I'd have not a problem with forcing companies that use trans-fats to label their products as such.

So what's the NDP's platform? Whats their plan? What are they going to do different? And how? Are we going to have our taxes raised? More deficit budgets?
