Conservatives Double Liberal Spending
Mr.Canada replied to Fortunata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes I do. Many Canadians are social conservatives, the votes prove that. I suspect he will do exactly as laid out in the Reform platform but I could be wrong. I supported the Reform Party as well before the CPC and welcome those common sense ideals that many Canadians embrace. EDIT- I'm sure he's softened some of his stances over time though but I'd certainly expect to see some social con policies being passed. I don't really see the fear in that to be honest. -
And the Liberals who have been in power for roughly 40 of the last 55 years have helped this how again?

Conservatives Double Liberal Spending
Mr.Canada replied to Fortunata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Haha, no. They had to spend because they have a minority so that means bend to the wishes of the opposition or they won't be able to pass anything at all. Cooperation with federalists not coalitions with separtists. -

Yep, this is correct. We have homeless and jobless in Canada already. Until they take care of that close the book. -
madmax, I like your response a lot. Thanks for posting it. You must be feeling rational today, good for you for finding common sense

God Save the Queen.

The Quuen is the most powerful person on the planet even more so than the US President. She doesn't exercise it but she could simply raise her finger and say that the commonwealth will go to war and we would all be bound to enter the conflict.

Conservatives Double Liberal Spending

No disagreement but it doesn't change the fact that our leaders are privy to info before we get it and has been projected. Therefore our government gets points for putting Canada into such a strong position. Our fiscal affairs have been handled expertly with a deft hand and a cunning attention to detail, you must admit Flaherty is an economic genius to see this coming and to have panned for it....just wow! -
Guyser, you gotta move out here. The wait times at Georgetown Hospital or Orangeville are almost nonexistent...haha.

Conservatives Double Liberal Spending

If he had cut spending, you'd be going on about that. This is a minority situation and the Tories need to include all parties concerns. If they do this when they get a majority at the end of the year I'll side with you. -

This isn't the same landscape that the Liberals were blessed with. A recession is the time to up spending prudently. It's the time to upgrade infastructure, etc. -
Legalize Marijuana and Prostitution
Mr.Canada replied to PoliticalCitizen's topic in Political Philosophy
Allowances for amounts under 1oz to 1,5oz are good measures and fines for amounts up to a qp are valid but not more. I would actually support some form of prostitution if it is done off our streets and done tastefully and tax it, have licenses, regular testing etc. Regulate it. t the same time stiffen the penalties for street level hookers and pimps. -
August, rich and poor alike are supporting their parties there are just more middle class than the more well off. The rest I agree but the NDP would hurt too but not as much as the number of left wing folks that are able to donate the max is more limited.

Stuka dive bomber, hands down.

I talk to people for a living, so as you can imagine I speak to thousands of people a year and I have spoke about this with many black S. Africans and former black Rhodesians and most have stated that they had it better under white rule, they say that the black leaders just aren't fit to lead. At least the ones that have come to the job thus far, hopefully this will change. EDIT - For the record I feel that the former white rulers should have worked together in a (dare I say it?) coalition effort for a while to help these black Africans and show them how to rule instead of just throwing them the keys and walking away.

Landed immigrants seek vote
Mr.Canada replied to Chuck U. Farlie's topic in Local Politics in Canada
As much as you love to hate on me I can always count on you to give me a chuckle once a day. Cheeky bugger -
Harper is looking for someone strong to lead the CPC after he is done. Harper wants to retire from politics on top as PM. He has learned that from watching what happened to Paul Martin and doesn't want to hold onto power for too long, so long that he loses support yet hangs on for pure egotistical reasons. This is based on opinion.

We'll see I guess blueblood. The same thing was said about Dion in the beginning if you remember and we all know how that turned out.

Pure evil? What do you base this position on? Unions raise wages across the board for the whole country because as unionized employees get higher wages the minimum wage must follow suit. Everyone benefits. Before Hoffa, workers were paid next to nothing because they stood alone and had limited bargaining power but united they can hold a companies feet to the fire. This is because the worker is the workforce and without them the companies make no money at all. All unions are not equal and some wield more power than others and some wield too much power. Unions in and of itself are a good thing but sometimes their applications leave something to be desired.

I wouldn't say we're a sad nation, we just happen to be making news at the moment. In my opinion anyhow. Canadians always seem to be looking for outside approval instead of knowing that we are a great nation we just think we are and are always looking for confirmation. I chalk this down to Canadians not wanting to show outward pride in ourselves as Americans do for example. Patriotism outside of hockey seems to get branded as some sort of right wing idea. Again just my own observation and it's in no way conclusive.
-
Yep, I fully agree with you here Dancer. Unions are useful if one doesn't have good working conditions. If they do then a union will only cause problems and then the relationship between worker and management will break down. Trust me I've seen it many times. I work for the same union that Hoffa started so I say this with some experience in organizing as I get paid to do just that. Probably why a lot of my posts are full of rhetoric but I'm working on not doing that here anymore. Not as much at least.

In my opinion... I agree with many of the previous posters. We will be back at the polls by fall 2009 and personally feel he'll get a majority. I say this because after this fiasco I feel that Canadians are tired of minority governments and see that they don't work well. If however Harper doesn't secure a majority he should and will step down. I think that Ignatieff is a non factor. I say this because he can't relate to the masses. I'm sure he'll try and he has been trying but he has too much of that Ivy league arrogance in him and has spent too much time in those circles to change now this late in the game. The majority of his adult life has been spent abroad and this won't resonate with voters very well. To boot Ignatieff is not a good speaker and doesn't connect with the common man.

Please cite this pol as I was unaware of this development. Little is known about him. Wait until he starts speaking and Canadians get to know him, his numbers will drop. He has lived the last 32 of 35 years out of the country. That's a long time to be out of touch with Canada. He will never be PM unless by Coupscam.
