ransom It isn't just about the people being poor, but having lost their livelihoods through clearances of the land, famine, war, and lost their fishing industry to toxic waste. It's about loss of other opportunities to make a living.

I favour a mix of both, with a guaranteed annual income of at least $20,000 for every Canadian. This represents only a loss of "freedom" (which you seem to equate with money and assets) for a very few Canadians, but greater freedom for many many other Canadians. 2% of Canadians have 40% of the income (These are the ones who will take the hit ... and it will be negligible for each of them - $175,000 - they'll still have at least a million a year left.) 48% of the people own 58% of the income 50% of the people own 2% of the income (and pretty much all of them live in poverty) "Confiscation" as you call it for inflammatory purposes, is nothing more than sharing the resources and the wealth of the land more appropriately than is the case now. The income gap is too big. Too many are suffering so too few can enjoy unnecessary wealth from the destruction of our natural resources (soil, air, entire watersheds) that belong to us all collectively. And then of course, there is the issue of the natural destruction they leave behind, after they declare bankruptcy and morph into a 'new' company - so we are all collectively on the hook to pay for their cleanup. Keep in mind ... I am talking only about people making $1m or more. And of course, the "confiscation" would not be immediate, but gradual through proper taxation and closing loopholes. Yes, I believe in this climate nationalization of banks (and their atrocious profits) would get votes.

Ah! But is that because of capitalism or socialist programs?

Ya, well Billy Bob certainly upstaged Willie, but I wouldn't say that was a good thing!

Yes, of course. The parents - Mom and boyfriend I think - took polygraphs today. There was a local person who said "This is a small town ... people know ... about a lot of things ... there are rumours ... but that's all I'm going to say." Today there was a discussion on tv - Do we have a "right to know"? Not if it affects the child's safety. And that's at the discretion of the police. Fine with me. And a family member, unidentified, said "There's something familiar about that woman's walk." So, obviously there are things they are investigating.

A police sergeant seen in video footage striking a woman during the protests against the Group of 20 meeting in London this month has been suspended, according to the Metropolitan Police. The video, available on YouTube, shows the officer slapping the woman in the face, before hitting her on the leg with his baton after he appeared to be verbally abused. “The actions of this officer raise immediate concerns,” London’s Metropolitan Police said in a statement released late Tuesday. “Once we were notified of this footage by a media agency this afternoon we began to take steps to identify this officer.” It added that the officer, who was not named but who works in the Territorial Support Group, has been suspended “pending further investigation.” The Territorial Support Group is a unit of the Metropolitan Police that specializes in anti-terrorism and spontaneous disorder in the British capital. “Every officer is accountable under law,” the police statement added. “The decision to use force is made by the individual police officer, and they must account for that.” http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/16/world/europe/16london.html Thank goodness for video! Finally I think we are making progress in holding police accountable for their actions. No doubt the cover-up culture of police forces is disgruntled, but I think this is a very good thing. After all, if you don't have the freedom to protest verbally without getting hit, you don't have freedom of speech and assembly. The police are supposed to protect those freedoms, not attack them. The police are not paid (by the people) to protect the regime in power from protest, but protect the rights of the people, regardless of who is in power.

Pretty pathetic complaints about a few individuals, hardly justify ... forcing [all Muslims] into learning the language, That's ridiculous. This is Canada.

UN - Israel’s Unlawful Use of White Phosphorus in Gaza
tango replied to dub's topic in The Rest of the World
Because the borders were closed ... by Israel and Egypt. People were trapped in Gaza. They could not leave. If you didn't even know that, then perhaps you don't know enough to be responding on this topic. -
"Money to stop the pirates would be best sent to them"

The CIA's hand is evident, as in ALL destabilized countries The Islamic Courts Union accused the U.S. of funding the warlords through the Central Intelligence Agency and supplying them with arms in an effort to prevent the Islamic Courts Union from gaining power. See source above. Ah yes ... here it is ... oil American and Chinese oil companies are also excited about the prospect of oil and other natural resources in Somalia. An oil group listed in Sydney, Range Resources, anticipates that the Puntland province in the north has the potential to produce 5 billion to 10 billion barrels of oil.[58] Now we know what the purpose of the destabilization is. Following the massive tsunami of December 2004, there have also emerged allegations that after the outbreak of the Somali Civil War in the late 1980s, Somalia's long, remote shoreline was used as a dump site for the disposal of toxic waste. The huge waves which battered northern Somalia after the tsunami are believed to have stirred up tonnes of nuclear and toxic waste that was illegally dumped in the country by several European firms. -

That's Riverwind's misunderstanding. No, I think the pirates meant directly to them. Fact is, the country has been destabilized in the interests of private profit, and those who lived off the land no longer can. Point being ... what capitalism took away from them should be returned - their livelihood. -

Maybe we need further confirmation to convince the Israeli people. However, there is considerable reason to suspect that Israel has lost its moral compass, imo. -

Explosives Found in World Trade Center Dust

The theory is not that 'Bush'/CIAorganized the whole thing. The theory is that he knew what was going to happen, and rather than trying to stop it he capitalized on it ... turning terrorism into mass destruction. -
Explosives Found in World Trade Center Dust

Yes ... Alex Jones has Prof Jones posted ... Brigham Young University physicist Professor Steven Jones told peers at a Utah meeting that, "while almost no fire, even one ignited by jet fuel, can cause structural steel to fail, the combination of thermite and sulfur "slices through steel like a hot knife through butter." Jones points to a video (click here to watch) which shows a bright yellow molten substance dripping from the south tower minutes before its collapse. Government investigators claimed that this was aluminum from Flight 175 but Jones is adamant that aluminum is silvery in appearance and doesn't turn yellow. Jones also told the Deseret News that sulfur traces found at ground zero indicates the thermite was combined with sulphur to make it burn even hotter than the normal 2500 degrees Celsius. Jones stated that thermite was a "clever" choice because its ingredients, aluminum and iron oxide do not require identifying tags by law, meaning they couldn't be traced back to their manufacturers. Watch the following video and observe how thermite completely melts a car engine in a matter of seconds, without the addition of sulphur, and also completely resists neutralization by liquid nitrogen. Notice how the dripping substance is identical to that seen in the south tower video. So does Ron Paul ... http://www.dailypaul.com/node/88818 -
Explosives Found in World Trade Center Dust

Ah yes ... Obama is an alien ... “Its a very dark day for America if the President of the United States is going to use his close ties with Intergalactic Organizations to abduct his opponents and replace them with alien appeasers,” political commentator Bill O’Reilly said on his radio program Thursday night. “If John McCain, one of the toughest S.O.B’s America has to offer, doesn’t stand a chance against Obama and his gang of alien thugs, what chance do the rest of us have? What chance does the little guy have when Obama and the alien tractor beam come knocking on your door just because you don’t agree with him?!” And the UN finally has some ... er ... clout ... Shortly thereafter, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon issued a short and brazen list of demands, calling on all nations to "bow down at once to social progress." "Tremble before the awesome might of this cooperative assembly of appointed representatives," said Ban, boldly holding a stack of diplomatic resolutions in his hand. "At last, when the United Nations calls for the development of more sustainable agricultural practices, the world at large will listen." Added Ban, "We will no longer be ignored." Cute ... er ... missile I understand that people are standing back on this one. It's friggen huge. Recall ... He was forced to retire only for saying that the US ignored warnings and information, did not act to stop the planes. Suggestion being ... maybe somebody rigged the mass destruction part as an add on to what they knew was in the works. And recall ... Many people support ongoing investigation of 911 truth because they lost loved ones there. Who opposes investigation? Or better question ... who is suppressing investigation? But I wait for confirmation and elaboration of this information too. -
Absolutely. Absolutely.

You are right. And they have to have more in the House too. Oh you bet they're tough. But it gets tiresome 'playing' like "the big dogs". (Dog eat dog.) It's a friggen waste of time and human efficiency, in fact. We pay them for that posturing crap, when they could be thinking and doing. And the sustainable economy definitely needs the undistracted attention of women, imo.

You're right. I went back and corrected it. -
The point of the article was that how you use language determines your progress in reaching your objectives, especially diplomatic objectives. Free speech as an end in itself is just ... noise.

Yes ... watch out for them ... and say "thanks". The people who look after our children deserve fair wages. CUPE has 7,000 members in the communications sector, and is the largest union in the country, with more than 570,000 members working in day care, health, municipalities, education, libraries, transport, energy and the media.

Freedom of the Press, Speech, and Thought, RIP
tango replied to Canadian Blue's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's along the same lines as, for example, conspiring to commit a crime - a speech-based offence too. It is a crime of speech ... when persistent and intended to incite hatred against a particular group. Ernst Zundel propagating hatred against Jews, for example. Criminal Code, Sections 318, 319: http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/reso...l_code_hate.cfm -
And then changed their position in response to public pressure. Don't forget that detail! Free speech works. We all have it.
