I get it, but that distinction (like international law itself) isn't very poignant. The lack of universal standards and enforcement capacity make the whole thing mostly symbolic. That doesn't mean it's completely irrelevant, but International Law is going to have very little to do with resolving territorial disputes in the Donbass or Crimea.

That's kind of a silly thing to say. You can be for lots of things while still being "anti" others. The reason that politicians like Trump have been able to harness so much resentment is because there's an underlying kernel of truth to some of it. Even just saying that is enough to get some people worked up, but we have politicians, bureaucrats, brands/marketers, public servants etc. literally tripping over themselves making sure they don't offend anyone anywhere, and that everyone knows how progressive and woke they are. The zero tolerance for misogyny, bullying, racism etc. too often carries over to an outright intolerance towards queries or even discussions on these topics, which spills over to much more innocuous stuff. I may be wrong, but I think a large portion of the folks on the Trump train aren't there because they're racist and ignorant fools, but rather because of the resentment built for all of the times someone's made them feel sub-human for not 100% agreeing with the dogma de jour. The counter-culture has been an equally (arguably worse) toxic reaction, but we're all doing ourselves a disservice not considering or listening to the other point of view with an open mind.

I mean there are no doctors or clinics that will do it: The type of abortion that an individual can seek is often dependent on the weeks of the pregnancy and the province or territory in which medical attention is sought. Often, a medical abortion is the primary method for pregnancies up to roughly 10 weeks. If the pregnancy has progressed beyond 10 weeks, a surgical abortion will likely be the main option. It is rare for an abortion to be performed after 20 weeks but may be sought due to life-threatening conditions. Abortion care is not available for a pregnancy beyond 23 weeks and 6 days. https://calgarydefence.com/resources/abortion-rights-in-canada/ Also: According to a study published by Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights in 2019, no providers in Canada offer abortion services more than 23 weeks and six days into a pregnancy. Those who are this far into their pregnancy and looking for an abortion often travel to the United States for the procedure instead, which would be in jeopardy should Roe v. Wade be overturned. https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/what-is-the-legal-status-of-abortion-in-canada-1.5890266

Oh boy. Where did I say that??? So what are you saying here? You don't like DeSantis? Neither do I. Anti-woke =/ Racist. Sometimes woke goes too far, and I think that a reasonable politician could tap into that sentiment without embracing racism and ignorance. The guy to do that isn't Ron DeSantis, however, and I think we both agree on that?
-
If only he could keep it to just anti-woke. Unfortunately, he's every bit the unscrupulous populist Trump was. The only thing that he has going for him over Trump is that he's smarter and less erratic, which in itself is at least an improvement.
-
I question whether you do. As of 2019, Canada didn't have a single provider of abortion services for fetuses over 23 weeks, 6 days. Access to surgical abortion, required after 9 weeks, is limited and doesn't even exist in large parts of the country. Of course the image you'd like to conjure is of Nazi doctors pulling late-term babies out with hooks by the thousands, but the reality is very different (as usual with your posts) ?.

New deficit numbers are in and they are gross.
Moonbox replied to Army Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Being young and dumb is a thing we all go through. Being cruel and sadistic is not, which is what Mitch Miller was all about. I didn't say it was. I said that a lot of the people getting "cancelled" are racists and bigots spouting BS. Being "cancelled" means that you're being ostracized for your bad behavior. That's it. There are examples of woke overreach, but Mitch Miller isn't one of him. Using him as an example of cancel culture gone awry just makes you look silly and reinforces the perception that this is just a right-wing reverse outrage slogan. I wasn't commenting on you specifically. I was explaining, yet again, how the Conservative party hamstrings itself playing footsie with the science-denialists in the party's base. A rational/practical approach to this issue would be most welcome. I'll say it as clearly as I can, and I don't mean to be rude: You have little/no understanding of inflation. Today's inflation is minimally Justin-related. I speak to the economists who compile and analyze this data on a fairly regular basis. I can review it with you if you like, but judging by the fact that you didn't even acknowledge the chart I posted on US inflation data, I don't think you sincerely care. All that seems to matter to you is that you don't like Justin and we have high inflation. That's the narrative you're content to roll with. -
Babies are. For embryos it's up for debate, but the one thing that is certain is that a woman's rights supersede the embryo's. For fetuses it's a much greyer area. Nobody said that. There's quite a bit of legal precedent ruling in favor of an unborn fetus. The embryo is another story. This is an example of hysterics and hyperbole. ?
-
The only thing that matters, legally, is that the woman's rights to choose are entrenched in Law, and that the rights of the fetus (whatever they are - this is legally vague) do not overrule the mother's. Fortunately Bible-thumping is not acknowledged as a sound basis for legal or medical theory. It's not an excuse. It's an acknowledgement of that failure. That doesn't constitute a violation of the Charter, however. ?
-
It kind of is though. International Law should be renamed "International Norms and Accepted Convention". They only matter when they can be enforced, and they are only enforced on weaker nations. There's a long list of atrocities and sovereignty violation on the part of major powers (including the USA) that will never be addressed because, as Dougie says, Might Makes Right.

This is a necro of a 16 year old thread and likely a phishing attempt. ?

Abortion = genocide? ? Abortion rights are protected by Section 7 of the Charter, protecting the life, liberty and security of every individual (including WOMEN). Fortunately for us, the Bible isn't the final legal authority in Canada! C A P A C I T Y

Sorry buddy, but I'm not lying. His father had a vast fortune. Donald Trump inherited or received +$400M from him by the time he was gone. Just saying, "I have $10 billion" doesn't mean you do. By an outside estimate, he has less than half of that, and he'd be worth more if he'd just invested his daddy's money in the stock market rather than muck around with it himself. Going to Donald Trump's branded website to get the TRUE Donald Trump story is a good joke. ?

I line up to vote almost every time, no matter what time of day I go. I run my company so I can go when I please, and it doesn't matter. 9:00am. 10:30am, 2:00pm, 3:30pm - doesn't matter. I have at least 5-10 people waiting in front of me. Either way, talking about voting lineups etc is a weird direction for this conversation to go considering the original (albeit low-effort) OP.

Obviously they don't, but I don't think Canada really needs to worry about the puerile perceptions of poverty stricken and backwards dictatorships and third world crapholes. Nope. It still doesn't. Getting stoned kills you. Showing up to a drag show, at worse, looks odd and weird. If Trudeau brought an entourage of drag queens to Saudi Arabia, then their opinion would matter. Outside of that, their fragile moral sensibilities couldn't matter less to what we do here in Canada. They certainly don't give a shit what we think. Perhaps you haven't noticed the changing times. There's a code of conduct, for sure, but it is fortunately not based on your vague personal judgements of what's "appropriate". So far the only consequence for this that you've been able to offer is that the Supreme Ayatollah might not respect us as much. As I said, perception isn't everything. Putin spent the last 10 years cultivating a culture of machismo and genius. Through his poor decisions, he's upended that perception over a few months and is now widely considered a paranoid, lame-duck President on a ticking clock. His decisions were what mattered. You know what had nothing to do with it? Cringe-worthy photo ops of him riding horseback and topless, showing off his saggy man-boobs.

I read it the day it was published, and what I remember from it was that absolutely nothing in the article would lead a rational mind to the hysterical thread title you posted here. Nobody here is surprised though, because you just can't help yourself.

Perhaps not intentional, but I think its disingenuous to suggest there's not a heavy LGBTQ slant to Drag Race. I don't think there was much strategy to it. He, or someone else probably thought it was a fun idea and he said why not. To me this feels a lot like Sanna Marin taking all sorts of flak for getting taped dancing and drunk at a party. You're allowed to be a human being as Prime Minister without having every appearance you make distilled into political drama. What's the difference between a hockey game and the Masked Singer? Of course if he was a contestant on one of these shows, he'd probably be a shitty singer and make a fool of himself, but if he just showed up in the audience or said a few words on stage? Nobody would complain if he did that at a hockey game, so I don't understand why this is a story either.

I care about what's going on in a lot places in the world. I care about Ukraine because Putin's a criminal and a tyrant and the world would be much better off without him. I wish him and his supporters failure in all of their endeavors. Now that I answered your question, let's loop back to mine and see if you're willing to do anything but change the subject Which generals that I listed have not been sacked? Which regions that Ukrainians have recaptured are you arguing that Russia still holds? What is telling you that the war (sorry, special operation ?) is going well for Russia?
-
Yeah in 4 weeks, the Russian Army will have some more Iranian trash to lob at Ukrainian cities, and their ineptly led and poorly equipped soldiers will hate their lives more than they already do. In 4 weeks, poverty-plagued Russia will be even poorer and more isolated, and Putin’s propaganda drones will still be spinning another month of failure as anything but. that video was a joke. “Okay you pesky Ukrainians. NOW we’re going to start getting serious! We are going to make BIG ATTACK! Are you scared!? I bet you’re scared!” See you in December, where nothing will have improved for Russia ?
-
What are you specifically contesting? Bleating “durr MSM fake news” like a zombie isn’t an argument. You can create a whole new fantasy world for yourself with that all-purpose delusion? Which generals that I listed have not been sacked? Which regions that Ukrainians have recaptured are you arguing that this is not so? You’re not actually contesting any of these facts, so I guess you just dump them in that chasm of denial you’ve dug and just keep powering forward in ignorance?
-
Yeah I can agree with this 100% @Army Guy I struggle to imagine a situation where Xi Jinping is figuring, “Canada is so easily bullied. That Trudeau guy hung out with cross-dressers on Tv.” Geopolitical decisions are made with more consideration than that. Serious leaders don’t make plans based on unserious things like this.
