As a foreigner, I have been thinking about this. The federal Republicans are on the wrong side of two central issues: -abortion -debt reduction ===== You Americans have a pay-as-you-go federal pension scheme - far more generous than my RRQ. Your Medicare works better than OHIP. And you have a military. Paul Krugman described the US federal government as a tank with a pension and health plan.

In the 1960s, we Canadians faced this "nationalism" divide. What to do?

I think that the federal government should simply tax CO2 emissions - and send any collected revenue to people in the province, or the provincial government.
