Sarcasm is laughing at others. I get it - you don't. Typical of American humour ==== Irony is laughing at oneself. -
Mr Beast, Google Creation, Tim Horton, Eddie Shack

Canada - Love it or leave it.

All true. Ayn Rand reminds me of modern Hollywood. ==== If you have a message, go to Western Union. -
I was recently in a Montreal shopping mall. The parking lot was full. IMHO, prices are too low. My wait in my regular Tim Hortons is too long. It needs more employees -it should pay them more. Quebec public sector is on strike. This may be a bumpy ride.

Is the population of Canada growing too fast?
August1991 replied to NAME REMOVED's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You misunderstand me. We Canadians are good at getting different people to get along. And no one is born knowing how to tie a shoe lace. ===== This is not Clinton village BS. We Canadians get along. -
Is the population of Canada growing too fast?
August1991 replied to NAME REMOVED's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Disagree. No one is born with the knowledge of how to tie a show lace. ==== I was recently in Toronto and I saw a group of immigrant high school kids leaving a bus. The guys mostly wore baggy trousers; the girls had black tights. Clearly, they all wanted to do as others. IMHO, Trudeau was correct to change our immigration law in 1976. The Americans changed theirs in 1965. -
Is the population of Canada growing too fast?
August1991 replied to NAME REMOVED's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Disagree. Our problem -possible advantage- is that we have to bring all these kids into the new world. Every generation, we have to teach them how to write, speak, be civilsed, get along. Canada has the physical infrastructure. We Canadians? We excel at teaching how to get along -
Disagree, strongly. Canada's current federal debt to gdp ratio is 40% (in Japan, it is over 200% ====== There is a great misunderstanding about taxes, government spending and debt. Governments do not spend or borrow as you or I do. If you're a woman - imagine does it matter whether you use the debit card, credit card?

But this immigration increases property values - Vancouver and Toronto are proof. Canada is a successful country. -

1. First time buyer? Born here? What gives you the right to buy a house in Canada? 2. "... huge percentage...:"? Strongly disagree. Most Americans/Canadians (outside Quebec) own where they live. -

People like Putin and Xi have this wrong, Even Musk has this wrong. My answer to these guys... Musk: We are not going to Mars any time soon. Putin and Xi: We must teach kids, every 70 years or so, what we know. -
The CAQ was elected in Oct 2022 with a majority. In Jun 2023, the MNAs received a 30% increase. There's a $8 million subsidy to get the LA Kings to play in Quebec. And there's the tramway, third bridge in Quebec City. Now, there's ugly public sector negotiations. Legault and CAQ is a total f<up the situation. Own goals, as they say. ===== He has until October 2026. Legault is in the driver's seat.

Is the population of Canada growing too fast?
August1991 replied to NAME REMOVED's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Disagree. Foreigners will come to Canada, and get a passport - it is impossible to stop them. (eg. poor beautiful foreigners will marry rich ugly Canadians.) However someone/anyone gets to Canada, crosses the border, I would like to ensure the person is "Canadian". ==== We have to bring all these people into the modern world. Heck, our men/women have done this by nature for centuries. -
Is the population of Canada growing too fast?
August1991 replied to NAME REMOVED's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Disagree. 1. More immigrants make current owners of "housing units" richer. As a holder of land in Canada, more immigrants make me richer. 2. We Canadians are civilised. We get along. How do we get other people from around the world to also get along? -

You miss the argument. ==== Norway, Sweden, Finland are also cold places But we Canadians show others how to live here. -
Is the population of Canada growing too fast?
August1991 replied to NAME REMOVED's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
1. Canada is a large land space. Many people can live here. 2. Like Finland, Sweden and Norway, we Canadians live in the cold. 3. Unlike Europeans, we Canadians are different We have organised a civilised society where different people can live among us. === Why did you Swedes and Finns get involved in NATO? -
Dunno. Intriguing post.

We in Canada are about 40% Our Canadian dollar is good. In the US, it's over 100%. (I'm ignoring provincial and state debts....) ===== What happens to Canadian paper if no one wants to hold US paper?
