Unfortunately we are already on the way to being flat broke ... just ask Andrew Coyne of National Post fame and a former fan of Cons Flaherty/Harper team are now Canadas biggest spenders "It’s true. The $200-billion in program spending Mr. Flaherty has budgeted for this year works out to about $5,800 for every man, woman and child in Canada. Even adjusting for inflation and increases in population, that’s more than Paul Martin spent in his frantic last hours. It is more than the Mulroney government spent in its last days. It is more than the Trudeau government spent in the depths of the early 1980s recession. All of these past benchmarks of out-of-control spending must now be retired. Jim Flaherty has outdone them all." http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/f...ing-budget.aspx and pre-election spending while flirting with a deficit ... ask taxpayers federation OTTAWA: From June 2nd to September 4th, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) tracked 293 pre-election spending announcements totaling $8.8-billion made by Stephen Harper’s Conservative government. That is roughly $94-million a day or about $3.9-million every hour. More spending is expected today and over the weekend in advance of Sunday’s probable election call. http://www.taxpayer.com/main/news.php?news_id=2954 I fear there are absolutley no fiscal conservatives left in this country The more things change...

Video shows reasonable approach by constit staffer Issue was blown out of proportion by media Jist is we can meet but no drinking like last time - subject whether native, chinese, catholic, mason... is irrelevant...the lady had a point...or do people think she should not stick up for herself Lets look at it another way ...how would most people feel if their mother/daughter/sister was put in a similar threatening situation and responded in a similar fashion?

Simple...leftwing media have it out for Harper ideologically and revenge focussed for him playing them like a harp during his first term Financial conservatives(although Harper shed that nomer once becoming the biggest spending government in Cdn history) are bane of the left - add so-con perception and voila - big KICK-ME sign glows neon on their backs And... makes good TV/sells papers

?????????? Did I miss something? Pot clearly does impair see Erowid site below and quote http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_driving.shtml "There have been a number of studies which have looked at this issue and most have found that cannabis smoking does degrade driving performance. There is a little contradictory evidence about whether cannabis in combination with alcohol causes worse impairment than alcohol alone, but so far the data heavily favors the view that the combination substantially increases risks over either alone"

Really by inference all conservatives are racists Interesting when 2 liberal candidates in Quebec were forced to step down for racist comments about natives and aboriginal leaders were outraged http://rjjago.wordpress.com/2008/09/12/nat...ist-candidates/ these weren't staffers but candidates ....and you were saying... Me thinks all sides have their share of racists, bigots,

On other side may be too late to be seen as sincere and will it play as succembing to pressure of public/flip-flopping which perpetuates story on apologies, gaffes, etc... Balancing act but sooner than later is my bet and puts it to bed so it doesn't hang on for days
-
Know you audience - including the weasels Problem is not this isolated incident but: - takes Cons off -messgae - gives left motivation and momentum - story is now conservative campaign derailed Silver lining for Harper is that it is early in the campaign and should be non-voting issue unless story becomes 10 apologies in 35 days - far-fetched but leftist media would love to bring him down as well - notice story is not 3 Libs, 1 NDP and 1 Green candidates step down but "4 apologies in 10 days for Conservatives"
-
Joke is ok in company of staff behind closed doors and does provide levity in tough times but with 30 people on a conference call including unlike-minded civil servants from liberal era - duhhhhhhh? Know your audience He should be trashed not for offensiveness of comments but for lack of judgement especially as it propogates image of insensitive, bullying, etc... that has dogged Harper and company for years...not to mention motivating all workers on the left as they dream of being a role player in an epic political David/Goliath battle ...picture them searching for stones to load their slings while the hot sun ... but I digress He is a liability that Harper does not need right now - baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-bye Have him offer his resignation and croc them tears PM

see exerpt for proposed changes to ontario building code congrats - you win - 24 sussex does not/will not require sprinklers

Not used to sticking up for politicians but think about this ridiculous scenario 24 Sussex is in a shambles - putting plastic on the windows because of winter drafts in a prime ministers residence ... huh ? Excuse me Mr. Bush or Mandela or Brown - you may want to put on your overcoat if you are going to sit near the bay window Martin put up with the shame and Harper will likely do the same Issue is national pride and second rate impressions but media would run a headline like "Harpers sinks millions in Mansion" not "NCC to undertake much needed renovations" Ah the pleasures of a sensationalist media in a headline world/sound byte/snippet world

From what I can see it was accessed 200 times a month or 7 times a day if we look at story link and mostly by media - Seems to jive with Star story numbers of 2-3k per annum http://www.onlinedemocracy.ca/CAIRS/Amber_Jn04.pdf I would need budget for CAIRS to determine what that would cost taxpayers per request - I know others will scream that you can't put a price on transparency but I respectfully disagree - it is always about the most effective use of funds to reach the end goal although unfortunately in this case I do not see an alternative and more effective system being proposed by the government Unlike the other boondoggle registry -People also claimed you couldn't put a price on safety/security but instead of investing more in effective gun control (licensing, manadatory storage, training, ) they supported wasting it on the ineffective registry - even tories haven't had the guts to scrap it - probably political considerations re: quebec/urbania the culprit To I would have felt better if they had deep sixed the real registry culprit and proposed a less expensive and more effective alternative for CAIRS Hilarious story from the hill - these guys are keystone cops on this one - some staffers head will roll a la Niagara (or Viagara-if Liberal-put it together ) falls incident -Seems almost Hillieresque but I guess they can't toss him

six fig - just so you know of what we speak - see grassroots native website link alleging corruption; and third party managers report of dec 12,2007 detailing investigations underway http://www.tfnam.org/TPM%20Report%2012.12.07.pdf http://www.newtfn.com/fdup.html six fig - deer in the headlights -bang , twang baby yet again this is getting to be fun -

Not in this case six fig - they are in debt due to corruption and mismanagement, millions of dollars in debt, and 5 individuals are being investigated by the RCMP My native partner sees the corruption and agrees with me that the system is broken and needs to be fixed - and like me he believes in ec dev just not in the present form Are you that arrogant that you believe your experience with natives is somehow the defining experience? but forgive me six fig - you would know more about his situation and he probably had backward parents as I did who led him astray - he'll be interested to hear of your perspective sleep well six fig and keep those rose colured Raybans polished as you milk the native bands for your six figure salary Udder arrogance -

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...ernational/home Doesn`t look good as Afghan warlords are gearing up for return to 1989 (see story in link) and 81percent feel sharia law would be effective deterrent to corruption -

bang or twang six fig - now you indirectly insult my parents - see Ad Homiun Your direct experience with natives and my direct experience with natives are worlds apart Yours may be working but the one I am familiar with in Eastern Canada has seen third party managers installed, 5 band employees are being investigated by the RCMP, and millions have been lost in one misguided venture after another Two different realities are impossible to debate and but I do hope yours prevails for the sake of the bottom line of this country Are you for real - As mentioned earlier I have an aboriginal business partner - I guess my backward thinking(and recently deceased in the case of my mother) parents weren`t effective in brainwashing me -

Valid point on Fraser - I understand they cut funding in 2000 but not relevant to this thread IMHO as it is about NB situation and there was no federally funded dredghing or dyking as far as I know Original thread blames Harper unfairly when he responded quickly and toured sites with premier and said he would consider all requests for emergency assistance as they are presented by the province Provincial EMO handles predictions and recommendations and feds act in a support role in disaster relief see link below http://www.cbc.ca/canada/new-brunswick/sto...th.html?ref=rss -

An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin: "argument to the man", "argument against the man") consists of replying to an argument or factual claim by attacking or appealing to a characteristic or belief of the person making the argument or claim, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument or producing evidence against the claim. and you have the audacity to call me on AH after your response to Melanie above nice try six fig but people in your income class and people in my income class will always have differing views I see corruption , misspending and a broken system firsthand and think it must be fixed for the future of first nations in Canada Your view will not obviously change as you think throwing more money at the issue is the answer. You are part of the system, and to admit fault would admit that maybe your life is an exercise in futility and that you are part of a broken system that wastes tyaxpayers dollars Rose coloured glasses don`t work well in the trenches where I work - must be more effective in your ivory tower - must be an issue of perspective and the people who do not share yours being ``loads of crap`` Good luck six fig - I truly hope you do succeed - it would be good for Canada Don`t forget to cue DM to sling viceral insults on your behalf -

don't know or don't care - why is this relevant - lets stick to your six figure income - do you mind if i call you six fig We have one of largest reserves in east and business after business after business and millions of dollars have been squandered including a truck stop nearby (shut down) Plans looked great but implementation failed - my take is lack of qualified management personnel-Now in thrid party management and broke heck maybe you earned your six figure income on this project and lost taxpayers 2.2 million in the proces - congrats from taxpayers six fig and keep up your squandering of taxpayers dollars Not that I disagree with the concept of aboriginal ec dev six fig just have seen too many failures to have much confidence in results being achieved six fig Re: Human resource development there are ample opportunites for training with generous educational allowances so I would like to see more first nations training because this is one of the key areas where resources need to be directed six fig And could explain relevance of your six figure salary again - I still don't get why you would include your ample personal income in a debate about aboriginal poverty Thanks six fig and just a hint - you may never want to brag about your six figure income on a public forum again when you are discussing poverty Like a doe in the headlights six fig - bang (or twang for those that are traditional hunters) -

Hard to apply a cost benefit analysis to military action in general, and specifically Afghanistan. How would we place a price on improvements to human rights, empowering women, and helping on the security/safety front. I with you on the inevirability of return to taliban rule and sharia law - unfortunate and we should give it a little more time then assess but floomy outlook - if it not wanted by the people then how can you force it upon the people-regardless of how honourable be the intentions -

Probably wrong to accuse Liberals of having hand in the till - I believe they needed to be punsihed but I do not think elected members benefitted fiancially - better characterization might be financial gain based on political influence or partisanship -or maybe membership has its priveleges I nor you can in fact prove there was an attempt at financial gain from political favours in Mr Soudas case but the issue was before the courts and arranging a meeting was entirely inappropriate lets look at the flip side - Do you think that they were motivated by financial loss ? -

Ouch but I tend to agree I do think the experiment needs a little more time to actually assess the results .I say that until I see the body bags then think as a parent. So do we pull out and allow a return to sharia law or sacrifice further lives in attempt to forestall the inevitable Talk with the Taliban - - if the inevitable is coming we need to try and influence the process to make the most of a bad situation and lobby for human rights - it may eventually make sense -

http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/299113 Law of averages with Quebec political culture is that somebody will recieve political favours for financial gain Liberals got caught and were thrown out Conservatives may or may not get caught but it will occur and as evidenced above has likely already started Don't get me wrong - I hope Mr. H cleans it up but I'm not optimistic as you can see Reality bites -

Human rights need to rejected by those being de-humanized - if they are willing to go back to taliban rule then what does this say about the futility of our efforts Sad scenario
