Do you agree that true democracy and seperation of church and state is required or should we embrace sharia law - that is the question IMHO I do get your point on problem with nation building but can true democracy be a long term fit or will we revert -

Is that confirming your support of sharia law as an alternative and deep-sixing democracy and seperation of church and state -

see my previous post re: taking both Martin and Flaherty to task Nice try on the partisanship and welcome you to catch me if you can but I do try to keep it to policy debate I also find political strategy fascinating so will offer opinions should not be too slanted I will vote for whichever party I feel has the best platform and if they are caught with hands in till see no problem switching to an alternative Two posts ago I said clearly that they were both big spenders and asked you to admit the same Baby steps - just admit that Flaherty might be not as fiscally conservative as you had hoped -

For clarification purposes - Are you are agreeing with the 81% that sharia law would be an acceptable alternative and that democracyis a failed experiment that should not be pursued -

okay i guess bragging about your six figure salary while discussing aboriginal poverty seems a bit bizarre but hey - its your six figure salary so scream from the rooftops on ec dev - from what I see human resources is the key issue not the availability of programs - seems best laid plans often collapse when companies are up and running - at least that is the local experience - maybe we need more six figure salaried employees to help them -

Tried to make Taliban Jack a hook to catch those fish and debate so hopefully it will work but point taken - first time on any web forum so will try to be less controversial What about slipery slope issue and credence to those that harbour terrorists see link for relationship between Bin laden and taliban just in case you do not understand the history. It will make you aware of their checkered history, their human rights records especially against women, and their association with Bin Laden http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taliban#Relat...Osama_bin_Laden -
Good point on Ontario Gentlemen Handouts are the unfortunate political solution or less likely protectionism (see Hillary) Problem is that aid to manufacturers could be seen as big move away from fiscal conservative base and flip-flop on free market orientation Probably the best strategy is handouts but opposition will decry too little and too late anyway Gas tax cut is also no guarantee of savings to citizens - McKenna circa 1993 tried it and saw little change at the pumps so could even backfire

You are right - it is all a conspiracy and we are in fact the worst place in the world to live - media are in on broadcasting foreign wars and injustices only to dupe us into thinking we are the lucky ones How do you debate this issue when you discredit everybody as corrupt or dishonest -

Skewed but still does not bode well even if it is 55 or 60 percent instead of 66 Not that I care because I am not the partisan one in the conversation - are you saying that Cadman, in and out, transparency issues, etc... has not tainted CPC and exact same strategy can be used as 2006 - Liberals crooks/Conservative clean - I would recommned against it Need I answer this - politics 101 I didn't disagree that it was a vote getter and good political strategy but so was denying the Jewish refugees asylum by King in WW2 - doing the wrong thing because it is politically strategic doesn't make it right So you are in my corner on big spenders - try saying it out loud - Flaherty and Martin are both big spenders and I don't like it as a taxpayer - -

Wow - spewing anger and pessimism as spittle flies the corners of your snarled and frothing mouth is the visual that I get I may disagree with you but respect your passion Back to reality and lets, as adults, try to be objective Even better lets let the rest of the world be objective and judge us Ranked #1 country in the world to live in by UN based on key economic and social indicators (HD Index) from 1994 - 2000 and near the top since then Can you believe the UN findings? -

But then again should we give Taliban credence and are we setting precedent if we negotiate with terrorists and terrorist friendly organizations Slippery slope, no? -

Anti-CPC crowd is not the two-thirds of population that don't believe them (even though poll IMHO has iherent bias resulting in some skew) so in public opinion moral high ground is lost Never underestimate - Chretien was a master of lowering expectations - moral high-ground is lost, economy tanking and deficits could de-rail that train. In that case Dion and especially retreads, as Liberals have a much deeper bench , could pull off a minority As a fiscal conservative I would give them a chance especialy since Flaherty is a record spender, brought in inefficient GST tax cuts and may take us into deficit spending. Also recent history shows us that both here and south of the border the only true fiscal conservatives(federally), albeit probably by necessity, come from Democrats and Liberals -

I grew up spending alot of my spare time on reserve, still have many friends that are aboriginal, and have an aboriginal business partner And you agree with land title - looks like you and Tom Flanagan agree - Mr. Harpers advisor is on the same page - who'd have thunk it - except he sees it as a means to an end - you obviously have different ends but you may want to research your means - see 2004 CPC platform Your ponderings from on high are comical - get in the trenches with the rest of us - you have obviously never set foot on reserve or talked to the aboriginals one-on-one about their issues because many of the grassroots agree that their democratic system which they fought for and won, is flawed At least we both agree that democratic system on reserve is not working - will you now go further to agree that corruption must be addressed so we can get money into the hands of those who need it? Wrong -For ec dev and access to capital see following site with 38 references for ec dev programs that nobody but aboriginals can access, which I am supportive of but only if they provides bang for buck http://www.ainc-inac.gc.ca/ps/ecd/tok/abo_e.html Protesting what - the mispent billions of taxpayers dollars that go into a corrupt system and benefit disproportuionatley those in political power on reserve - if letting your MP know of this injustice to those most deprived on reserve is a form of protest then I have done my duty -

But they have in the all important battleground of quebec which spells trouble for Mr. H - he may have to play that silly nation card again, and again, and again..... which erodes his base elsewhere or maye the $ card - ditto Tough for him to find a strategy to bridge Quebec/West now that ethical high ground is crumbling -
define effective - my point is I don't see anybody screaming about the need for CAIRS - I will not debate the fact that it is a move away from transparency but will debate the value for money issue - probably a good question for Dion and co. to address in QP - why drop it ? what is the economic argument? and what will replce it?

Why does nobody debate with DM - he offer such valid points - why are you all bald? why are you all right wingers? why are you all cold-blooded? why can't you be more like him (non-bald, non-white,non-right,non-snake) - new to this thread but nice to know the those that are on the stage and those that throw tomatoes from the cheap seats Look forward to debates (and not personal attacks) with all the players on the stage -

There is no call for revenge only as you have correctly stated the need for change I accept responsibility for change - the question that i pose is - how is that change manifested? We have tried self government and that has been a failed experiment - the question is - what is the next step and how do we empower first nations communites. Is it incentives to rise above the fray in terms of economic development as I believe - or is it status quo? -
Deaths of Aboriginal Children
nothinarian replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
how dare you take the moral highground on this issue we all suffer when aboriginal children die and to think otherwise is an affront to our morality the question is - how do we get the resources in the hands of those that need it most because our present system is failing us - I live within 3 km of a reserve and see the benefits bestowed on those lucky enough to be on the right side of politics within the reserve system while those on the outside languish with substandard living conditions It is not the necessity that i have issue with, but the failed delivery mechanism - implementation is the issue -
Hail Mary and pass the peas on Flaherty Consservative provincially but I bet she voted for Myron Thompson long before he was a conservative( if he ever became one)

Actually west has more of a populist/libertarian history and that is why I believe that as Harper moves to the mushy middle he will alienate the west/populist/former reform/NEP gang - could be wrong in this as he has been adopted by them but Klein or Preston could lead grassroots movement if he doesn't play to his base
