Deaths of Aboriginal Children
nothinarian replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Thanks see link on scott peterson just to clarify depth of insult http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Peterson I am a father of two who just spent 8 hours driving my daughter to a self-defence tournament and back today new to this - how to you report this behaviour to moderators? jokes are great - this involves two adorable children and a loving wife - it is not called for -

Nice - bring my children and my wife into this policy debate everyone looks in the mirror - think of this post the next time you do -
Fair enough - Didn't record Newman but your take and my take are not far off - Martin never(surprise); Delacourt never (real surprise); Hall - no opinion which means never by default; Russo - never but knows some that do I would like to see stats on usage - not denying Harper might be covering up but think of strategy - why would he further alienate an already alienated (and angry) media if this was a big issue for them

aha - see Preston Manning/Deb Gray - circa 1989 - West are independent lot and remember Harper is from Ontario Understand Conservative label issue but more conservative and populist tub thumpers have split on right before and could again

Floods Destroy Homes: Insensitive Harper Does Nothing
nothinarian replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
see original post "I am shocked and appalled by the indiffference and non-chalance of Stephen Harper and the Conservative government. People are losing their homes and Harper is doing nothing. The federal government knew about this potential catastrophe since, well, last winter when the snow fell. Did it do anything? No! This shows not only incompetence but also Harper's true feelings about the poor, ordinary folk living along Canada's rivers and streams. If it were the rich and wealthy who suffered like this, you can be sure that Harper and his fat cats would take care of their own. " How do you propose the federal government be more proactive in preventing floods? NB Power (prov. Crowm Corp) manage dam system on Saint John River and provincial EMO manages response Please explain -

Aren't we judgemental Do you actually believe that the funds destined for improving the quality of life of aboriginals is gettign through to the people most in need If you agree with the existing system then you believe in a corrupt system that is failing the majority I have no beefs with the money if in fact it reached those in need - bit it isn't reaching those in need See my point on implementation Do you believe in an unjust system where the politically conected on reserve drive Yukons and the downtrodden live in tarpapers shacks - I may be the lesser humanitairan but I do not belive in a system that has failed those it was meant to help for decades Tall horse indeed -

Floods Destroy Homes: Insensitive Harper Does Nothing
nothinarian replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not the issue We should come to the aid of those in need with emergency relief but to blame Harper for natural disasters and somehow claim that he has not done his job as PM is beyod the pale Areas of NB affected by flood deserve support but they understand the perils of living in the flood plain and knew, with snowfalls this year, that flooding was inevitable doesn't mean they don't deserve support but to claim this is somehow a Harper miscue is wrong -

I'm in although as redneck says after bar exchange "I think I might be a lesbian as well" REAL women probably are tying the noose Look out hate crimes - funded by yours truly -
Blues have an uphill climb in Quebec from policy angle and now that they cannot differentiate themselves ethically/morally they are in deep Me thinks Harper will play another kiss up card and renew Nation issue If not money is always a good bet but could further antagonize base in West

http://www.bartleby.com/59/3/necessityist.html Maybe time to make the entitlement culture an issue but in a humanitarian way - access to all social programs but no more Enough with crooked band councils and self government -great goal but implementation not realistic in present culture My children should no longer pay for actions of their ancestors-tough love is a b*tch but often the best remedy -
forgot press release link http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories

No probs with Martin hiding anything - see date on press release about his Xmas Moroccan vacation He could have learned a thing or two from Chretien - transparency has its benefits but not in politics - see Gomery Love him or hate him - Harper understands the benefits of running a tight ship

Floods Destroy Homes: Insensitive Harper Does Nothing

Yeah ... because of his historical soft stance on climate change we can probably pin all natural disasters on him for the ...next decade or two .... thats the ticket And for those people living in areas that flood anually he should have... forced them to move years ago when he was in opposition... thats the ticket ...gives a whole new meaning to tory times are tough times -
Heard Newman on Friday with reporter round table and all reporters said they seldom , if ever , used it including Don Martin who had never heard of it - although one star reporter - Delacourt i think, mentioned that some of her colleagues dabbled with it Grassy knollers think it is part of a master plan but hopefully just a money saving effort made in good faith

Pretty broad statement so which earlier governments are you referring to? My take would be Chretien via Chief of Staff Jean Pelletier and less so in later years via Percy Downe, but definitely not Martin through Tim Murphy. That was an undisciplined lot on an anti-Chretien crusade probably to their own detriment. Any other notables?

Why Do Premiers Rarely Become PM's?
nothinarian replied to jbg's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Other reason is the inevitable adversarial relationships that develop between premiers and feds which can lead to alienation from the federal arm of their party (i.e. Danny Williams) Premiers are into fed bashing as a political tool and more provincial rights(taxing, encroachment in provincial jurisdiction, infrastructure, etc...) so would also difficult for them to do an about face on policy That said- we could use some leadership and excitement on all sides at the federal level - former premiers that could spice things up include McKenna, Klein and Harris - and they all are fiscally responsible -
Canada - You Have a Country You Should be Proud Of!
nothinarian replied to jbg's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Third world country status was proudly bestowed on us by the Financial Post in 1993 after 9 years of Mulrooney rule - Liberals before them were no better;but after them (Martin)much better (in some measure thanks to Wilson GST and free trade) but also thanks to deep cost cutting Lets hope Flaherty keeps fiscal conservatism as the main goal but with record spending and trend of US republicans embracing deficiits - as a fiscal conservative I am concerned as is normally conservative friendly Andrew Coyne http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/f...ing-budget.aspx Deficits will bleed support to Liberals especially if their competent handling of precious conservative deficit is resurrected -
I recall Lord of the Fried dance - Oh perchance to have that in and out scenario versus one at present How about Mike Harris - strategically could keep west in and tight with Preston, , appeals to base/rural , native son in Ontario, probably would bring in other p*ssed premiers (esp. williams)or would premier baggage a la Bob Rae be the major factor

Montreal Law firm and still does the talking head thing on Duffy so keeping some profie Recruitment effort was hot and heavy at one time so still has some key influencers in his camp but would be hard-pressed to haul out the knives after plum bilingual appointment from Harper
-
How about old PC guard untiing behind Lord if Harper moves right - if he moves left I don't think bilingualism will be as big an issue for obvious reasons - not sure on Harris - McKay struggles - Prentice better - Lord perfect - Belinda......sorry lost it for a second

RCMP raids Tory party headquarters

The poll is not biased - the inherent mistrust of politicians by the populace(partisans excluded) skews any poll where trust in politicians or believing what they say is used in a survey question - IMHO
