  1. Atlantic Canada is something like: Nfld - (keep Avalon but lose 2 in St Johns)5 lib, 1 NDP, 1 Cons NS (status quo) - 6 Libs , 2 Cons , 2 NDP, 1 Ind PEI - (Cons pick-up Egmont) 3 Libs, 1 Con NB - (Cons pick-up Fredericton) 5 Libs , 4 Cons , 1 - NDP Atlantic Total Libs - 19, Cons - 8, NDP - 4, Ind - 1
  2. ´http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080214.wcomartinopen14/BNStory/specialComment/home So media is moving to thge right in concert with Harpers stated goal of making Canada a more conservative nation - Coincidence right Dorothy
  3. I would like to assume that you are joking because your response is hilarious Your naievetÉ is charming and sweet - please keep that perspective - it is truly refreshing Shouldn`t somebody so innocent be a Left Wing supporter as it is clear you haven`t grown up to embrace the real world´- Do you actually believe that a master plan to make Canada a more conservative nation(let me guess you think that is a conspiracy as well) does not include a media component
  4. Absolutley but after this whole orchestrated effort to woo the Aspers had begun It may have sealed the deal but this planed strategy was in play on a number of fronts
  5. http://www.canwest.com/brands/newspapers.asp http://thefilter.ca/articles/canada/aspers...-a-toried-love/ The Cons - to name a few Asper friendly initiatives: hooray - are laissez faire on media concentration since taking power allowing Aspers unbridled growth; hooray - have committed 12 million annually for Human Rights museum in Winnipeg (championed by Aspers); hooray - have ushered Harper around in their helicopter; hooray - have senior executives who advised on the transition team in 2006; hooray - have senior executives who ran and continue to run for the Conservatives Surprise, surprise... and all their papers endorse the Conservatives Go figure Before anybody brings up Izzy's connection to Libs I don't care... just remember there is no objectivity in our media and the existing government is as unethical as the last
  6. Likely a loss of seats in Atlantic with 2 -3 being in Nfld and likely minimal change in NB/NS/PEI(1 possible Tory pick-up in each) Quebec itself will see no gain and likely Con loss of 1-2 seats to Bloc So Cons are likely down 3 - 5 seats and at best breakeven east of Ontario so will need to make their gains in our largest province and BC Can't see it unless there is a late move by RW libs to Cons in and they take unusually large percentage of undecided
  7. No sh-sherlock
  8. Not a hope in Hades but her support will traditionally move nationally to the Libs so expect a bounce for Dion that should be offset by RW libs going to Harper
  9. All we can go by is strict objectivity of numbers and based on historical performance argument would be that all others are biased and he is the only unbiased source In reality they all seem to haver biases - i.e Donolo of Strategic is former liberal advisor as is Bricker of Ipsos fame on the tory side All we can go by is their numbers and Nanos comes across as the lesser of all evils on that front
  10. Nanos called it bang on in 2006 Was that biased?
  11. Maybe didn't understand May question becasue of hearing issue Gotta love the irony but he is looking better and somewhat understandable Like his stable as well for front bench especialliy with Brison/McCallum on finance issues Harper should have gone in summer as soon as GShift was announced but hindsight is 20-20
  12. According to MD he mused about transition team Seemed to me Harper got burned by this in 2004 Can same happen to Dion as people take a closer look or will he pick up support from the ABC/ABH coalition of the whining as he arises as the frontrunner? I predict his Green Shift gets much scrutiny - Dion loses RW libs to Harpers benefit but no net loss because LW ABC/ABH gang moves from NDP/Green to Libs. If gap is now 4 - 5 % , then see end result as greens NDP down cumulative 3 %, Dion stays same and Harper up 3 % Dion to rae: ABC Frowns to the left of me and brokers to the right, here I am stuck in the middle (left) with you
  13. A tax on everything Not worth the risk Oh wait that was not fear mongering Truth be told they all do it and will continue to do so because going negative works according to the experts see Kinsella,Rove, etc...
  14. CPC - 124 LPC - 106 BQ - 48 NDP - 28 Ind - 2 Tories should rebound after Dion muses re: transition team
  15. We need 2 more seperatist parties (Nfld & Ab) with a full fledged legal party status that all Cdn taxpayers support a la Bloc and further vote spreading so we can be in a perennial minority ( I jest) Give me 2 parties and a majority and we will live with our choices If one party goes too far left or right their policies will not sell and we'll keep them centrist at election time plus provides a much more functional parliament
  16. I am with you on Chretien and Martin and Harper in all fairness seems to be the most fiscally conservative but can't get beyond his driving motivation to turn us into a conservative society - fiscally i will stand up and cheer but his record thus far is not good ... socially his agenda , hidden or not runs counter to our progressive tendencies
  17. Not lily white Wasted money on registering guns instead of focussing resources on licensing/background checks on users and increased penalties for those commiting crimes with firearms - conservatives have perpetuated system for fear of alienating urban voters Allowed Martin to spend like a drunken sailor in run-up to election - conservatives under Harper ditto Did not reform EI to put monies back into employers/employees hand - conservatives guilty as charged as well Plus ca change.....
  18. His entire raison d'etre is to transform the conservative party into the natural governing party Would love to live in an era when I could tell the grandkids about our great goals as a nation maybe along the lines of taking our place in the world and promoting democracy, being a would leader on the environment and social justice, even something as banal as running a fiscally responsible government.... but no wait I'll tell them about our prime minister having a vision to convert everybody in Canada to conservatism/alliance/reform philosophy... Notice I didn't even mention progressive I can imagine the response Geez Grandad.., you did live in the olden days
  19. The struggle is always between the individual and his sacred right to express himself and the power structure that seeks conformity, suppression, and obedience. William O. Douglas ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Read your signature 15 times and couldn't understand how you could back harper with his penchant for muzzling underlings and your obvious belief in free speech .... puzzling no????????????????????????????????
  20. But wait ...who is the biggest spending government in Canadian history and which end of the spectrum (relatively) drove US into 1/2 trillion dollar deficits ... ohhh no.... scooby its the conservatives/republicans.... mulrooney (and to be fair before him trudeau) digs a hole and Martin/Chretien(yes he backed up Martin when he could have vetoed his budget) digs us out... George Bush(right - relatively) digs us in and Clinton(left - relatively), digs us out...Flaherty digs us in and McGuinty... slowly digging us out When notorious Conservative rag(NATPOST) and perennially supportive journalist Andrew Coyne hammers Cons then you know you have no credibility on the fiscal right http://andrewcoyne.com/columns/2007/03/fla...ig-spenders.php Unfortunately Dion doesn't understand opportunity on the fiscal right and has chosen door #3 Where have all the fiscal conservatives gone? Liberals or Conservatives
  21. Bang-on re: the hostility from the media and payback I also think nailing the frontrunners makes a good story and sells papers...Cons are not only ones media have lain in waiting for... ask Paul Martin
  22. Huh...Just like his counterpart and ideological idol George W increased the US profile on the world stage, ran a fiscally conservative government and of course an honest government that postumously tried to sell Iraq as having something to do with 911 No argument on Dion but don't raise expectations too high on Harper... his sweater vests and newfound smile do not mask his previous comments about building firewallls around Alberta to keep Canada out, defeatist Maritimers and support for Iraq war Spots ....whadya mean i can't change my spots...Majority or not my spots are changed...honest
  23. SEALs the deal with artsy set but that boat sailed long ago
  24. Agreed as mentioned in last line of post "And... makes good TV/sells papers"
