  1. Majority believes Canada coddles minorities Poll reveals deeply divided attitudes toward immigration BRIAN LAGHI From Thursday's Globe and Mail April 17, 2008 at 4:04 AM EDT OTTAWA — A majority of Canadians say their country bends too much in trying to make visible minorities feel at home, even as voters pat themselves on the back for being a welcoming society. Results of a new survey for The Globe and Mail/CTV News also show substantial national fault lines on immigration, with urban Canadians more likely to support the growth of visible minority groups than their rural cousins are. According to the poll, 61 per cent of those surveyed believe that Canada makes too many accommodations for visible minorities. In Quebec, 72 per cent of those surveyed feel that way. [...] The poll also found that 45 per cent of those surveyed believe new Canadians hold on to their customs and traditions for too long, only two percentage points below those who feel newcomers integrate into Canadian life at a natural and acceptable pace. [...] For example, on the matter of whether accepting new immigrants of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds is an enriching part of the Canadian identity, 65 per cent living in cities of more than one million agreed, compared with 53 per cent of Canadians in communities of fewer than 30,000. When asked to characterize the fact that five million Canadians are visible minorities, 55 per cent of Liberal supporters said it was a positive development, compared with 38 per cent of Conservative backers. By contrast, 53 per cent of NDP backers, 56 per cent of Bloc Québécois backers and 59 per cent of Greens found the numbers a good thing. Why is the growth of the visible minority population in Canada a good thing? Full article : http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home
  2. The Liberals lose sight of that fact WarBicycle more often than not it would seem to me. The only seem to care about the big cities which most of their vote comes from. They fail to care that outside of the big three or four cities it is almost entirely blue except for in Quebec where we have the BQ but even that is changing to blue more so now. The Liberal faithful seem to think that they are out of the woods but nothing could be further from the truth. Imho we need to get Liberal voters to vote NDP or Green to further split the left vote while the CPC marches to a majority just as Cretien did when the right vote split in two consecutive elections. If the right vote had been united then we would have had a conservative government back then as the numbers from the two combined right votes were higher than the Liberal total.
  3. *sigh* It isn't a contradiction guyser...why must you pollute my topics constantly. If we had less immigration, more people would be working at higher wages. They would have no choice but to raise wages because the unemployed pool from which to draw would be smaller and people would be able to be more picky about where they work as I have already described sir. Thus the standard of life in this country would rise. I thought this was pretty simple... Not to mention that your posts are not adding to the debate are sniping and spam as thus you will be reported for violating the rules yet again. Please try to learn how to form proper sentences in the future and you will garner a greater respect. I understand that politics can get heated and that is healthy but to snipe ones post doesn't promote a mature dialog.
  4. NDP = Socialist/Labour, which is a nice way of saying communist, which equals workers rule. So the Democrats are communists now? Laughable but as a left leaning yank, you should be happy. Basing this off of the Penn. primaries I imagine. Which is a very industry driven state, arguably the most in the union. Campaigning which caters to the worker in such a state hrmmm...your statement is dubious at best.
  5. Vote against immigration bill or else, Liberals told Apr 16, 2008 05:41 PM THE CANADIAN PRESS Immigrant activists opposed to controversial immigration reforms issued a warning to the federal Liberals today – vote against the Conservative government's proposed changes or lose political support from new Canadians who fear the bill discriminates against certain ethnic groups. The ongoing furor over changes to Immigration and Refugee Protection Act brought some 100 protesters outside Liberal MP Bob Rae's Toronto constituency office to ratchet up the political pressure. "If you're not going to support our issues as an immigrant population, we're not going to vote for you anymore," said Mohamed Boudjenane, executive director of the Canadian Arab Federation. Critics of the amendments fear they would put too much power in the hands of Immigration Minister Diane Finley and, that by tying them to the budget bill, the government is pushing the reforms into law without adequate debate. The budget bill is entering third reading, and so far, the Liberals have yet to vote against it – doing so would trigger an election. "We are hearing the Liberals speak about the harm of these amendments and the lack of transparency in these amendments," said protest organizer Sima Zerehi. "But unfortunately, their talk is not resulting in their vote." The warnings come on the eve of a vote on a motion, tabled by the NDP last week, which would sever the immigration reforms from the budget implementation bill, meaning the proposed changes would no longer be put to a confidence vote. The government has said the reforms will alleviate a growing backlog of immigrants, which could swell to 1.5 million by 2012, by fast-tracking those with much-needed skills. Immigrant groups warn the changes will put economic interests ahead of immigration on the basis of family reunification. Calls to the Liberal party were not immediately returned. Henry Jacek, a political science professor at McMaster University, said the Liberals should take the warning seriously. "Recent immigrants have been a bedrock of support for the Liberal party," said Jacek, adding that Liberal capitulation puts the party in "real danger" with voters. "When a political party starts to look weak, they can have a lot of support erode very quickly." The NDP, on the other hand, continue to stand against the Tories, which could attract Liberal supporters fed up with their party's apparent inaction, Jacek said. "It's a very wise strategy," he said, noting the Liberals have lent lip service to the fears of new Canadians but have yet to take a stand. "They'll attack the Liberals as being wishy washy and not following up on their own words." While people don't change their political loyalties ``overnight," over time those loyalties can erode and crumble, Jacek added. "At some point, they just have to say 'if we retreat anymore, our support is going to melt away from us.' " Source http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/415253
  6. For the CJPAC to suggest that they speak for all Jews is absurd. As absurd for example, that the LPC claims to be Canada's "Natural Governing Party" ...outlandish at best.
  7. The RCMP made two main allegations in a statement about the new charges, namely that: • Mr. Corbeil received a large amount of money from a company located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in exchange for favours with respect to the purchase of a piece of land owned by the Government of Canada. • Mr. Corbeil conspired to defraud the Liberal Party of Canada of a sum exceeding $100,000 by authorizing payment of false invoices. Mr. Corbeil was a power-broker in Quebec for the Liberals, and was seen to be a member of the Chrétien wing of the party. Full article can be found here... http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home So much for the Liberals trying for a June election... Quebec City, the so-called 418 region. * Tories: 41 per cent * Bloc: 25 per cent * NDP: 17 per cent * Liberals: 14 per cent "Quebec City is Mr. Dion's home town. He's in fourth place in his home town," McDonald said. "A leader without a base is like a prophet without a homeland."
  8. Jews are active in civic affairs. They tend to vote with their chequebooks, contributing heavily to the favored party. The majority of Jews vote upwards pf 80% and they are almost all urban votes. They are only 2% of the population but are extremely wealthy and influence much of the media and big business. You won't see any one party come out and say this of course but if you watch the news closely you will see that this is indeed the case. It is isn't right nor wrong, it's just politics. Also I'm not sure why we needed immigrants in the first place. If we didn't have as many I think our standard of living would have been much higher then it is now, that cannot be argued. As we wouldn't have to spend as much on welfare or other social prgrams aimed that these immigrants. Often times I think that the only reason we do allow so much immigration is so that industry can use them as cheap labour not at all caring what it does to society as industry/civic leaders won't have to deal with it. If we didn't have so much immigration industry would have to raise their wages or else not a lot of people would work in those types of jobs that are low paying...just a thought. It wouldn't at all surprise me if industry was covertly funding these groups that are protesting against the immigration rule changes. Things of this nature does indeed happen.
  9. Jazzer, is that the same attitude that today's immigrants have towards our country?
  10. The LPC was in power for 13 years and in that time had put in place liberal people to head up most of the government agency and this remains the norm today so I'm not at all surprised by this sudden speedy developments.
  11. If you don't have any well thought out and well written statements to add then please do not bother replying to my thread. I consider this spam and you will be reported for such a blatant disregard for forum rules. Btw we are in Canada and do not have Democrats or Republicans. That would make a conservative not a GOP member. In addition I shall educate you one more time. If you compare the polices of the CPC and the GOP and Democrats you will find that the CPC is closer to the Democrats of the USA and not the GOP. A common misconception actually is that the Democrats are likened to the Liberal Party of Canada by Canadian people. This couldn't be further from ther truth as the Liberal Party offical policy is far too left wing for the Democrats of the USA. Have a nice day.
  12. It isn't whining and it isn't racist to think that our borders are too open and that the immigrants that do come over need to integrate while retaining their culture. I am not at all against to immigration but I think any sane person would agree that it our immigration policy as well as our "official" multicultural policy needs updating to reflect the current world view and not that of the world in 1981. I ask that Canada only let in the types of skilled workers we need and cut down on the family immigrants which make up 70% of those that we do allow, many of them elderly who will only drain our system. I pay my taxes all my life and an elderly immigrant who hasn't paid into the system gets the benefits for free while being too old to work and contribute? That isn't fair. Also if someone is going to sponser someone to come here I believe that they have a duty to pay for all of their expenses if they cannot and that person needs to go on welfare they shouldn't be allowed in to drain our social system further, end of. If you would read all of posts in this topic which many of you are too lazy to do you would see my progressive points which are well thought through and well written arguments. If you want to see whining go to Stormfront.
  13. Th Jewish vote is crucial to any government in order to win. Peter Manbridge said so himself Thursday night's edition of "The National". Ignatiaff went to the Jewish council in Montreal to apologize for comments made earlier in the week.
  14. What does this have to do with black schools August?
  15. JBG, you need to re-read my last 2 posts... This excerpt from my post previous to the above was in reference that you said that Europe had turned on the Jews when that was incorrect. I was drawing parallels showing that in fact it was world view of the time by every civilized nation including Canada. In no way am I slamming Jews and my post doesn't reflect that at all. Please stick to the facts and not fantasy...thank you. Jews were persecuted by every nation before WWII, even Canada. Nobody would allow them into their nations, wel it was difficult for them to enter new nations to be sure. After WWII and Germany, not Europe, that changed or they would probably still be in the same position previous to WWII. Today jews hold a lot of power and can influence a lot of the vote, why do you think so many political parties pander to them, certainly it isn't to be pc that would be extremely naive. Even when faced with persecution the Jews made attempts to integrate was the point of my post. I guess I need to write out every little thing for some of our members aren't smart enough to think for themselves and must be spoon fed every tid bit by hand. That is exactly the problem. We aren't united at all, there is very little unity to speak of whatsoever. That is is the underlying issue that prompted me to start this topic. Multiculturalism is a form of segregation not integration. The majority of new immigrants do not interact with any culture outside of their own. Each settling in their own area of their respective cities and not integrating into society. With integration they'd be able to better share their culture with the masses and better help the majority understand them in turn enriching this country. As it stands now that is not happening as each ethnic group simply resides within their own respective communities and ventures out very seldom. To see the multicultural agenda as a success and flawless and not in need of improvment is to me naive. I'm not thinking of today but twenty years down the road. If we continue in this matter all of our major cities could be divided by racial lines. A sort of tribalism. As these self segregated ethnic communities will only grow as the majority of our current immigration is from the second and third world and the government gives us no indication that this is to change. Racially and/or religiously divided cities does not give me a sense of unity I'm sorry. Perhaps my sense of unity differs from others. I don't see this as unity at all but a failed experiment that is in and of itself a very old idea to begin with that is in need of a face lift and an up to date application.
  16. WIP. I have a problem with your logic and those of similar thinking. The right basically cited the exact same thing when fighting gay marriages and now the left in this country is using the same argument for polygamy...basically that it is damaging to the fabric of society and goes against traditional Canadian values but gays are marrying anyways now in the church which is absurd and a mortal sin but that is for another argument. So the left can use these arguments when it suits their own needs? Yet another example of the left speaking out of both sides of its mouth.
  17. Kuzadd again....hehe alright. All political parties exhort an amount of control over their members, that is a sign of good leadership and the amount of respect them members have for their party. In order to be a "talking head" as you say they would have to be someone close to the political power of this country to therefore be given "excessive talking"(nice English btw). By your definition Everyone includes only "immigrants bad , unemployed lazy , liberals, teachers". No one else exists. I would like for you to cite me a reference please where a person on the right who has influence has been condemning "everyone". I would also add that the left gets a lot more of the TV time and therefore has much more time to spew rhetoric then the right would as we have a left leaning media in this country. The left elite in this country have their own television programs in prime time. By your definition it would seem that only the right is inflicted with this condition and that the left is impervious, absurd.

  19. The CPC has been daring Dion to vote against him for months now...
  20. I'm confused. I thought you were a communist? They are all about state controlled everything like Cuba. You should be happy...lol.
  21. On the contrary Drea, I understand perfectly. I am a grown man not a child...lol. I was wondering what the official bra burning, feminist, nut squashing stance was on this. Thanks for your reply.
  22. I have a sense of civic responsibility and respect the laws of my country. I don't have the need to question authority and rebel constantly. My life is a little richer than wondering where my next ounce is coming from. I grew out of my adolescence years ago.
  23. lol, go squeegee a window kid.
  24. It was a clerical error I'm sure, very minor. The CPC has thousands upon thousands of donations to account for. They are still human beings at the end of the day, mistakes happen. The CPC is in the middle of a huge lawsuit against Elections Canada, where you aware of that? Perhaps they have an axe to grind with the CPC, hrmmm?
  25. Did the prescription call for a shift to the right? If it did, it was the correct diagnosis.
