Flaherty to slash public funding for federal parties

Why? This will in effect do exactly that, what will be spent on future campaigns is what the party will be able to afford. -

The difference is thew motivation, if you want to contribute by all means contribute, but to automatically hand over funds b ecause you voted for that party is different. How many times are we asked to pick from a bunch of bad candidates? You vote for the best of the three but you don't want to donate to their campaign, but according to the law now you vote also counts as a donation of $1.95. So the only way not to donate is not to vote. Sometimes money is the best factor in reforming a party instead of having the status quo, no donations sends a very clear message. Besides I can think of several different budget items that the 30 million would be better spent on. -

There are no corporate donations, thats the beauty of this, the parties will be even more reliant on their base, which means average citizens not the tax payer, lobbists, special interests, or corporate big whigs. -
personal opinion - "open federalism"
Alta4ever replied to bigbrother's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As far as I'm concerned Canada has too much centralization in Ottawa. Who needs Big brother in the way forcing its will on all the provinces. Lets decentra;ize some more. -

All thats required on these ships are a small compliment of well trained marines. -
This would be an excellent wedge issue. Could you imagine fighting an election over this?

The way I see the military is the same, lost of posturing, but havingthe ability to back it up with action if necessary. -

Alta4ever replied to Sir Bandelot's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes but what I am saying is that people flock like sheep to good news, in the market, but usually by the small investor starts buying the opportunity is gone. -

Yes but most people react to market noise, this looks good so they will buy, even though the opportunity to make money on has long since past. -

Layton did say corperate tax hikes. I can sympathize with you about the pipefiiter and welder as their are going to be huge layoffs in those areas here as well, but it has more to do with Stelmach and his change to the royalties and the end of another oil bubble here. We would bne going through this anyway though because of the stock market correction. I have no idea were you are from though and what the problems are to the local economy. -
USS Missouri: Should it be Recommissioned?
Alta4ever replied to kengs333's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Wasn't the missouri a museum before it was recommisioned the last time. I also beleive the last recommisioning was done because the US navy was wearing out its crusiers and needed "low" mileage boats while new crusiers were constructed and old one re-fitted? -

Why would you re commision a battleship to combat pirates? What would be needed are marines tavelling on board merchant vessels. Maybe even armed merchant vessels with a few naval men to man the weapons. -

Really what do think laytons corporate tax increases would have done to ensure more jobs. I'm not sure what you do, but I doubt that Harper is directly to blame for your job. If you are in the auto sector, then you need to take a long hard look at the last 40 years of the results of an overly powerful union and its share in the downfall of the North American vehicle. -
It probably has more to do with the synthetic hormones in birth control that don't break down. The propblem is linked to more then just the human species. I know what this sounds like, but google transgender fish, make sure your search filter is on though, or you will get a lot of very interesting results.
