What is C-250? A private members bill?
-
So much for the Cons in Quebec. I wonder what percentage of the ROC feel the same way. Liberals are lucky.
-
I wonder how Canadian voters are going to appreciate harper supporting the war on Iraq. I have a feeling that issue is going to come back and slap him hard during the election campaign. Before the war it was it 50 or 60% opposed? Now it is probably 80% opposed. Mind you the Liberals have a problem in this area as well.

I wonder if Ed Broadbent will start traveling across the country now, as he has a lock on Ottawa Centre. Ed is quite a magnet for votes. Maybe he will come out West soon.
-
Now harper is complaining about the press. First he will not debate and now he attacks the press for their questions. Is he hiding something? CBC surprises Harper
-
Liberal MP Nault just said Martin should wait until the fall to call election. Liberals showing weakness in parts of Ontario, Quebec & West. Quebec is the main problem.
-
If the Cons have their way Canadians will not find about harper until after the vote. Scary thought.

Check it out here: CTV Villeneuve Sponsorship Flag I liked the Villenueve/Monaco and the Robert Guy Scully connections. This scandal is getting more fun! Apparently there was no money paid to Jacques Villeneuve from the Canadian government to wear a Canadian logo on his uniform. Apparently Villenenuve was paid $1.5 million by the Quebec government to wear a Quebec logo. Bedard said it was rumours. Will it be the same for the drug accusations?

Can the NDP win the next federal election?
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Broadbent said NDP has 18-20% now, and expects 21-22% on voting day. I would say between 50 & 60 seats. We'll see. Martin destroyed Harper in QP period today which was interesting but actually to be expected. I think in Ontario NDP are looking at Toronto, Ottawa, Windsor, & Northern Ontario. Don't forget Layton is the only leader who lives in Ontario. I wonder how much NDP can grow in Atlantic Canada. Layton getting under Liberal skin ahead of expected election call http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2004/03.../394381-cp.html -
With the media coverage there would be something wrong if the CPC didnt obtain spike in polls. It will come back down. Ontario is going to get too crowded for anything like that.

Did anyone see Question Period today? I almost felt sorry for harper as Martin wiped the floor with him. Budget scraps shadowy national unity fund
-
Galahad.....I agree that Martin has stolen the Cons thunder. Liberals will only be giving up seats on their left.

What they meant with the question was will NDP win most number of seats, not necessarily a majority. -

I think the NDP will do well in French speaking areas outside Quebec. -

NDP has rural strength - Northern Ontario, for example. -

The Real "harper Wins" Post
maplesyrup replied to MapleLeafMerc's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Come on - you are all one big happy family now, are you not?: Mulroney, harris, harper, who have I left out. -
good article by Larry Zolf Looks like once again Quebeckers are going to decide who wins the election. INCROIXABLE! Thinking the unthinkable http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_zolf/20040324.html

Challenge to Harper Harper Won’t Talk Budget With Layton, Mclellan - Backs out of CBC Newsworld, afraid to defend his old ideas, as debate hypocrisy grows. Conservative Leader Stephen Harper continues to duck NDP Leader Jack Layton, today backing out of a scheduled appearance on CBC Newsworld in which he was to discuss the federal budget with Layton and Liberal Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan. Harper, who last year backed out of about 10 discussions with Layton on issues such as the war on Iraq, same-sex marriage and the last federal budget backed out this morning. No word on whether McLellan is an also ran, the excuse Harper gave on the weekend for turning down Layton’s debate challenge. Challenge to Harper I just do not understand why harper refuses to debate. One would think a party leader would want to take full advantage of opportunities to present his platform. Unless harper has someting to hide, that is, eh?

Kinda confirms my hunch, Martin is lookin over, surprise, surprise, not his right shoulder, but his left. -
Election lawn signs have been spotted
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I know for Conservatives reducing taxes is what makes you get out of bed in the morning, fortunately you are nowhere near the majority, as most Canadians prefer to have shcools and universities, hospitals and healthcare, roads, parks, fresh water, etc. -
Perhaps Martin s salvation may come from a comment heard about the Conservative leadership race: Stepen harper was the best of three uninspiring candidates.
