The Bloc support has been fairly steady. But it is always easy to attack when one is in opposition, isnt it? The hard-line approach towards the provinces does not seem to work, caving in does not sound very constructive either. Seeing as in some quarters there is this push to reduce taxes/government, maybe we need to abolish the provinces. I wonder what the results would be if we held a referendum on this topic.

The Bloc has had fairly steady support since they first elected candidates in Ottawa, hovering between 11 and 13%, and the latest poll gave them 12%. I wonder if Quebeckers will support the Bloc in the next election, as Martin was supposed to be very popular there.

Bay Street loves Martin - that is his ticket to fame. When all is said and done, Canadians will probably re-elect the Liberals, perhaps with fewer seats.

These are the results of a poll by the globe on the budget Maybe it is indicative of the coming election results. Which party s priority is to reduce debt? -
Election lawn signs have been spotted

Care to expand upon that sentiment? You mean that the Liberals are going to be toppled by a Conservative majority government? I don't know what else you could mean by that. Dennis.....every thread needs a comedian. I guess you are it for this one. -
What is the Bloc s purpose? What are they actually hoping for? I have heard people outside Quebec say they would vote for them if they could.
-
Maybe lacking in charisma. harper has even less than Martin. Jack Layton has it in spades.

Liberal election lawn signs have already been spotted up in Calgary. Is the writ about to be dropped? I think it is, within the next six weeks. And a lot of people will be surprised by the election results.
-
That sounds pretty divisive. The Liberals alternate between an English and French leader. I suppose that is what keeps them in power.

It is very interesting to note no tax deductions. Maybe Liberals feel more threatened from the left. Strange. 'Management with integrity' -

Lots of action for the West, sale of Petro Canada, assistance to cattle industry. Maybe Liberals will pick up seats in Alberta after all. No 'fast and loose' spending: Goodale -
Every political party seems to have a challenge looming for them in Quebec, as Canadians rush ahead towards a spring election. We know the Bloc and the Liberals are there, but if the NDP and the CPC are going to make inroads in Quebec, where will they be? Urban or rural? In Montreal? Realistically do these other parties have a chance in Quebec? We need democracy across our land. The Quebec problem

Tomorrow is budget day, not usually a happy day for Canada s middle and poor classes. In the meantime here is an article to consider while we wait:
-
Does anyone know what this is all about? Everything is always a secret with government.
-
And our past prime ministers have made some sound decisions as well, such as not formerly sending Canadian troops to Iraq. That decision is not even up for debate any more I would assume.

Would the right interpret Keynes differently than the left? a much maligned fellow, me thinks.

Kyoto.......apparently there is overwhelming support for Kyoto in Canada, and in the business community as well. A recent analysis suggested that the business community's opposition to Canada's position was being driven by a very small but vocal group within the business community. There is both overwhelming support and scientific evidence to suggest Canada needs to do even more that live up to its Kyoto committments. Sometimes Canada needs to demonstrate healthy leadership on issues. Kyoto is a case in point. Does this not confirm how the private media works in collusion with powerful wealthy business interests to distort reality in an attempt to malipulate our society? Thank goodness for the CBC

Yup..... Canada is not quite ready for the Canadian Republican (oops, Conservative) Party. Stephen Bush harper, during the election campaign, will try to hide his extreme right wing plans from Canadians, with the help from his right wing mainstream media friends.
-
I remember those words. Congratulations to all those who were supporting Stephen harper.

Are We Witnessing The Demise Of The Liberals?

Auust1991......wrong link I agree very much in particular with the first paragraph, and these ideas certainly apply in Canada: -

cgarrett.......thanks for the media reference. I was kind of hoping that this election would finally be the beginning of joe/jane Canadian taking their country back from the elites, the multinationals, etc. I agree in some ways with Jack demanding PR referendum to prop up any government, but we need more, such as severe spending controls at election time. -
willy.....I think you have just confirmed what the purpose of democracy means for the wealthy/elite. If one is poor financially then your opinion is of no value, or worthless. Right.

Layton To Harper: Do Not Pull A Belinda
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
When Stronach was ducking debates, Harper said, “I believe that anyone who wants to take on Paul Martin is going to have to be available whenever the media calls to stand front and take on the competition.” When will Harper put his money where his mouth is, be courageous, stand tall, and defend what he represents? Or are Harper's ideas not defensible? -
You sound like Marx speaking to Lenin the first time they planned the glorious system called communism. Why don't you "like minded" thinkers just PM each other and spare the rest of us a boring discussion about failed ideas. The only boring thing is your attempt to smear and the lack of any substance in your post. Perhaps a good way to redistribute wealth is to level say a 10% death tax.
