  1. There will be an opinion poll released Friday, April 23, 2004, and apparently the results are not any different than the previous one. In other words, the Liberals are still stuck in a minority government position. Maybe it is an Environics poll, but not sure about that. I wonder how Mr Democratic Deficit, PM Martin, is doing in BC, after appointing several candidates.
  2. I hear Ralphie might have got it wrong. Apparently the writ is going to be dropped May 2 - does that mean a June 7th vote?
  3. Everything is relative I guess. If one is like me and sees PM Martin getting $162,000,000. in loans and grants for his Canada Steamships Lines for example, and Conservatives promoting tax reductions, and tax breaks for the rich, that is right wing to me. So Liberal - Conservative, same dif. If one is right wing and sees parties supporting bilingualism, or immigrants, like the NDP and the Liberals, then one might say, ah ha, left wingers. Follow the money is my criteria to differentiate wherther a party is right wing or left wing.
  4. If that is true maybe it is because of the way we treat them,Actually most people would love to be in Canada including a lot of Americans. Arar family sues government for $400M
  5. I miss those two guys - Trudeau & Lesvesque. Politics were dynamic back then. We were spoiled.
  6. Klein speculates on Sunday election call I suppose this is how the rumour got started.
  7. August1991..... Cameron does not say how he arrived at his totals, so he may well have done it as you mentioned. What I like about his forecast is that he does not appear to be attached to any political party, and therefore does not have an axe to grind like most, if not all, of the media political pundits. I found it to be very refreshing & realistic. I had already reflected on a Liberal-Conservative alliance to govern, as those two parties have the most in common with each other.
  8. The Paul Martin/Liberal fumble These are the words of Duncan Cameron, a political columnist out of Quebec. Interesting analysis.
  9. healthcare is nowhere near collapsing. Most Canadians realize, backed by Canwest, the right wing politicians just want a little graft, or maybe a lot of graft, for their financial backers.
  10. I will let people speak for themselves about racism. The optics on this however look terrible for the Liberals. I am sure that PM Martin will go ahead with Cunningham. I looked up Pias remarks concerning why she was removed. Inappopriate comments. Pia was removed for just cause, & Liberals were wise to block her, similiar to Devine in Saskatchewan for Conservatives, but for different reasons. Where the Liberals screwed up with Pia is the obviously did not properly check her out before they initially accepted her candidacy, unless she deceived or misled them. It seems to be more the process that is creating problems for them. Let the fun begin.
  11. Extraordinary cabinet meeting sceduled for Monday,April 26 @ 6 PM Anyone else hear anything?
  12. Why is Alberta lookin at private involvement in healthcare when there has never ever been any evidence to show that it is more economical? This is just a sop to their supporters in the business community.
  13. CBC Newsworld just carried this live and it is far more devastating than anything coming out of sponsorship scandal for Mr Democratic Deficit, PM Paul Martin. Chinese Canadians are calling PM Martin racist. Canadidate Tony Kuo, now calling himself Tony Nobody, made an impashioned plea to stop the appointment of BC Liberal party President Bill Cunningham by PM Martin.
  14. I would challenge the view that Albertas approach to healthcare would be considered progressive by most Canadians.
  15. Ontario Liberals slipping, poll shows I had heard that Ontario NDP were in for a leadership change. Will this impact on that rumour?
  16. Martin's bid may tempt Klein to fight Never mind that Ibbitson does not completely make sense with his musings - Liberals do not want to agree with Klein, this is going to be the hot button election issue.
  17. Manley can run all he wants, it goes to a francopone next time, but at that point it could be who cares Willy....tks for Bby-Dlas info about Mr Democratic Deficit.
  18. Do we really know who leaked the Kinsella memo? Is this an attempt to depose PM Martin before the next election? Is that within the realm of possibility? Smoking gun or Conservative smoke? BTW if John Ibbitison is same as one on CTV QP he is no Liberal. he is a walking commercial for Conservatives, just like (ha, ha) political pundit, Norm Spector.
  19. Canadians have had some recent internal violence or have you forgotten all about the 60s & 70s (October crisis). Trudeau put an end to it with the War Measures Act. Unfortunately There are a few lunatics (violent types) in every community. BTW did you read article Of Bastards & Boneheads recently in Wpeg Free Press?
  20. Are we really? I think if there had been one vote more than 50% oui, for les Independentistes in 1995, we could have seen some violence, not necessarily civil war.
  21. We need another federalist provincial party in Quebec. The Quebec Liberals are just not cutting it.
  22. Tonite though everything is cool in Quebec. The habs won.
  23. Freed hostage says abduction not random
  24. I was referring to a bit of history when Bouchard was a Tory (Conservative) in Mulroney's cabinet.
  25. I really was hoping that Belinda would win on the second ballot. And as far as the voting time I was actually trying to be helpful. The CBC were announcing what I thought was the start of the voting time. As it turned out it was the start of their TV coverage time. Either I misunderstood them, or they were screwing up with their announcement (I still think they were screwing up with their announcement). No smoking guns here.
