  1. Martin is in a jam. If the Liberals had their way they would call an election tomorrow, but can they, with the polling numbers showing the Bloc with such a large lead in Quebec? Sometimes change takes place gradually, and sometimes not. I'm getting the feeling that we are not witnessing a gradual change here. Look at the results in 1980 when Mulroney took power. Progressive Conservative 211 seats, 50.03% of vote Liberal 40 seats, 28.02% of vote New Democratic Party 30 seats, 18.81% of vote Other 1 seat, 3.12% of vote The difference between the Liberals and the NDP was only 10 seats and 9% of the vote. So monumental change is very possible. Chantal Hebert said on RDI this afternoon that Harper's greatest asset in Ontario is the NDP"s Jack Layton, which confirms that the NDP is no longer going to be a minor player. I am wondering if the results for the federalist parties in the next election is going to be: First: Conservatives Second: NDP Third: Liberals While they still lead in the latest opinion polls Across Canada as a whole, does anyone else here think that the Liberals may crash and burn in the next election?
  2. No wonder the rich vote right wing. Now the key is how to make the average Canadian vote in their own best interest, instead of in the interest of the wealthy minority.
  3. Good luck to everyone in their choice of candidate. Don't forget to vote, and vote often. Have a great day!
  4. Latest poll: Bloc 12% up 4% CPC 26% down 7% LIB 36% down 9% NDP 17% up 9% First poll after last election: Bloc 8% CPC* 33% LIB 45% NDP 8% Interesting to note that the right, and centre right parties have both gone down, and the centre left parties have both gone up. *combined PC & ALL Just the facts please, just the facts.
  5. Hardly. It was a reference to the fact that the Left always has to scare people into voting for them. Somehow, if socialists aren't in power, the world is falling to pieces. Then, when they do get into power, they never solve any of those problems and merely bankrupt society. Nothing drive-by or smearing about it. MapleLeafMerc......you just confirmed what he said, not an ounce of substance.
  6. I didn't realise that Russia has one public TV network and many private TV networks.
  7. maplesyrup, quoting the Star is like quoting Marx. Could you give us a source we can take seriously? Thanks! Do a google search on Harper defeatist and you get a bit of an image of what this angry man is all about. We need to start a joke of the day section so we could put in the hilarious comments about comparing Harper to Trudeau.
  8. The start time for voting is 10 AM (ET). Thanks for the heads up. Maybe it's the CBC TV coverage that will start about 2:30 PM (ET).
  9. we can discuss results tomorrow. HARPER WILL COME FIRST ON FIRST COUNT BUT NOT 50% NO ROOM TO GROW BELINDA TAKES IT ON SECOND COUNT
  10. How do you reconconcile those comments with earlier Harper comments that resulted in a unanimous condemnation of his remarks in the NS Legislature? We are obviously not talking about some minor event.
  11. Cgarrett.....I completely agree. For confirmation Harper has been asked 10 times by independent media to engage in debates and has refused.
  12. There is an electoral reform commission. They redraw the riding boundaries based on population sifts. 1 -Parliament (government) ultimately decides the no of seats based on recommendations of the commission. 2 -whoever gets the plurality of votes in each riding wins the seat; the person wins it, not the party. 3 -mixing apples and oranges. MAJORITY: 308 seats, 155 for majority, do not forget speaker, so really need 156 seats minimum to govern MINORITY government: means all parties obtain less than 155 seats, one party needs another party, to obtain more than 155 seats, to help govern, to pass legislation; If minority, Usually, maybe always, the party with the most number of seats gets first opportunity to govern, sometimes with a formal co-alition, sometimes not. 4 - Liberals are majority government because they have 172 seats? more than 155 seats. These are educated guesses, hope it helps.
  13. Harper attacked the NDP Today the Globe criticised Harper for his comments: Harper can dish it out but he can not take it. He accused Belinda of bein chicken for not debating. Why is Harper afraid to debate the NDP leader Jack Layton? I think We know the answer to that. Harper should be in provincial politics.
  14. There certainly is some confusion with the processing of memberships and Belinda did ask for a delay which was refused.
  15. Harper looks afaid to take Layton on in a debate. And he probably is.
  16. Actually it makes harper attacks on Belinda for not debating look ridiculous.
  17. harper has a secret agenda or else he would debate Layton. Does not look good on him.
  18. Well how about it all you big harper fans?
  19. Was there not a little right wing corruption in Saskatchewan?
  20. Actually here is another twist to this story that apparently came from the Toronto Star:
  21. We live in interesting times.
  22. I think that he must have written someting about Stephen in the past. It might have been discussed on CTV last nite with Mike Duffy. I have edited this post. Apparently what was dicussed on CTV was not related to something Kinsella wrote - see below.
  23. Well the polls say differently. The NDP lead both federally and provincially in BC. BC is NDP territory now.
  24. actuallt it was a quote from the article:
