While Martin is a away will Harper and Layton Play

New Democrat Leader Jack Layton provided his seat to a veteran quite awhile ago. Good for Harper and Duceppe to do the same thing. -
While Martin is a away will Harper and Layton Play
maplesyrup replied to Kliege's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Martin is the Prime Minister and is fulfilling his role going to Normandy. BTW, if you don't like the CBC, why bother watching it (I'm talking partly to myself here)? Watch your Fox News or whatever turns your crank. Don't we have something like 500 channels now? Surely one of them will work for you. Do you enjoy eating? What about the Cooking channel? In the meantime, while Martin is away, we can expect Liberal attack dogs to be going all out after Harper and Layton. It should be a fun week. -

Martin will probably go up in the polls while he is away. He has been in people's face too much. -
I'm voting for...Layton's NDP
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No wonder so few Canadians bother to vote. Can you blame them? Thank goodness for Quebeckers, and the Bloc, which will deprive both these groups of weasels, of a majority government. However the most potential for a minority government is a Conservative-Liberal partnership. -
First and foremost, the Martin Liberals seriously underestimated former Prime Minister Chretien's popularity. Sometimes when you are too close to something, and you let your emotions take over too much, you don't put things in perspective. The reality is that Chretien is much more popular than Martin. Secondly, by attacking Chretien and his people (they even did it again today, see Owen on the front page of the Globe and Mail), the Martin Liberals have split the Liberal party in two. The overriding issue in this election however is the desire for change, and there is nothing the Martin Liberals can do about that. The sub issue is the sponsorship scandal, which is driving the desire for change. And Martin stupidly put himself right in the middle of it. Canadians know that either Martin knew about it, and is covering up his awareness or involvement, or if he didn't know about it, he is totally incompetent. Most Canadians, I think, believe the former version. Finally the Liberals are exhibiting signs of absolute desperation, and are being ridiculed, which is the kiss of death for politicians. So, the Liberals are going down, which is how it should be. And one big advantage to not having the Liberals anywhere near the government aparatus or machinery, is that all these opportunists, turncoats, and appointed candidates like Brison, Keith Martin, Ujjal Dosanjh, Dave Haggard, etc., will not receive all the perks they have been promised, to do these dastardly deeds, when they lose their own ridings. Oh, by-the-way, the knives are already being sharpened for Martin. It is just a matter of getting the election out of the way, before the real attacks on him begin. Martin's done like dinner, the Shakesperean tragedy that Susan Riley has alluded to in her comments and her columns. Make no mistake about it, Martin engineered a coup against Chretien, and, in three weeks, June 28th, Canadians will return the favour.

Harper's socially moderate image under attack
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That may or may not be true, but by getting into discussing abortion, same-sex marriage, etc. the Consevatives will get blown out of the water by the Liberals. This is a big mistake. -

Goldie.....why would you even touch this no-win issue for the Conservatives? Can't you see what the Liberals are trying to do with this? Now the campaign focus has shifted from the corrupt Liberal government to regressive Conservative social policies. -

cgarrett....you hit the nail on the head with that one. -
Is that like Mulroney saying" If you throw enough mud against the wall, some of it sticks"?

Actually Norm Spector writes about it in his column in today's Vancouver Sun. "FISHY" I think he called it. Do you think it was rigged, or just an honest mistake? Who would have benefitted from such a huge erroneous result?

FWIW Warren Kinsella has contributed finacially to both a New Democratic and a Conservative candidate's campaign in this election. I thought Trudeau/Canada's Charter of Rights guarantees certain protections for individuals, or am I incorrect? -
Campbell could cost Harper seats in cranky B.C.

fl......actually that article about the Conservative right wing Campbell Liberals in BC impacting negatively on the right wing Harper Conservatives' campaign is from basically a Harper Conservative supportive CanWest newspaper. -

Men need to mind their own business on the abortion issue. Or do the Conservatives really want to lose the election? Better smarten up folks. -

Don't take my word that the Conservative campaign is being derailed with your social conservative views, take the word of someone who is a pro, an authority on these things: June 4, 2004 -

Harper's socially moderate image under attack

Argus....maybe if we had a democracy where everyone felt represented. How many majority governments have we had in Canada with the governing party obtaining only 38-42% of the vote of the people that voted, which last time was approximately 60% of eligible voters? We don't have a representative democracy in Canada and the sooner that issue gets addressed the better. Anyway what right does any man have to decide on what a woman does with her body? Fortunately thanks to Trudeau we now have a Charter of Rights to protect women. Harper could go down on the abortion issue alone if he is not careful. -

Harper's socially moderate image under attack
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Wrong answer. Very few people in Canada want to reopen issues such as abortion. I just saw pictures of a questioner at a Harper campaign rally being punched by a Harper supporter. This does not not look good at all for the Conservatives, and may be the issue that turns the campaign around for the Liberals. -

Tough issues plague Tories Why did Harper have to get involved in this can of worms?
