The misery that children go through when they are raped in North American society is hardly less severe than anywhere else in the world. The difference is that in idolated instances in some parts of the world--for whatever reason--the child is considered responsible and punished; in North America, we just allow them to destroy their own lives, essentially self-executing themselves over the course of a few decades...

Either you're a complete idiot, or you just haven't been reading the appropriate posts; I've made it quite clear that I have no sympathy for Islam as an ideology, and am deeply disturbed that this country would allow a flood of about 1 million Muslims to emigrate within the course of a mere 15 or so years. One of my theories on why this is the case is because we've become increasingly dependent on oil, and the West is in no position anymore to disallow Muslim immigration for fear of serious economic reprisals. So every time you drive to the corner store for cigs or milk, you're contributing to the problem...

I think the Conservative (ie. Reform) Party is the only one that has been very vocal about it. The NDP will mention it from time to time, but the Cons actually make an issue about it. The senate plays a vital role in our democracy, so I find the characterization "a joke" a little unsettling. Personally, I believe that the appointment of those two GGs was an indirect attempt to undermine our Monarchy. Appointing former media personalities unsuited for political life just goes to show how flippant and disrespectful our politicians have become of the very system in which they find their livelihood; sadly most Canadians could not care less. Clarkson's spending was hardly lavish when it was intended to fulfill her role and promote a distinct Canadian identity. It certainly was nothing compared to the unknown billions that are being wasted in Afghanistan or for bailing out banks that don't need bailing out. Yeah, so...? I think it's already becoming clear what the consequences of being tied to the American economy are. There are sound economic reasons why deeper integration is a bad idea, but ultimately we should recognize the fact that the United States has never, ever renounced its nearly two century policy of being the dominant force in the Americas. Gaining control over our economy is simply a first step towards political integration. As far as I'm concerned, if you don't really care for the existence of Canada or the need for a distinct Canadian economy and, for that matter, identity, you're more than welcome to apply for American citizenship and go pursue the American dream.

Interesting term "anti-racism". When I was there, there was a guy who claimed to be black making heinously biggoted remarks, accusing all whites of being racist and all that (stuff that you do, too). That seemed pretty racist to me, yet he didn't get warned or banned. The whole point about a forum is to discuss issues, which means that people have differing opinions. The woman who started the forum clearly want to exact a degree of conformity that is unsettling to say the least. People with her mentality don't suddenly become tolerant and open minded should they ever get into positions of power. That's why the Soviet Union was the way that it was.

I agree. Most adults who vote really don't know much about politics, so there's really no excuse for not allowing kids to vote either? Maybe if they are allowed to, they will take more interest in politics and make more informed choices when they are older. Also, it should be noted that the Green Party placed second in that student vote thing that they did...

Actually, no. They created a PUBLIC message board and allow anyone to join, they should expect a certain amount of difference in opinions. I'm not sure if you really understand the full extent of the totalitarian nature of that board. The first time I went over there, I made fairly innocuous statements/opinions and was hounded. After being banned, I did go back several times and was a little more pointed in my opinions and of course was banned. The last time I was there, at least it caused some of the longer-term members to question the banning policy. Keep in mind that here I'm constantly painted as a leftist/communist, it it's a little amusing that I've been banned from rabble 3 or 4 times. Also, I'm wondering if that black guy from the Maritimes is still there who keeps stating that all whites are racist? That guy was probably the most offensive, racist person that I've come across of a forum aside from "tango" (aka jenny) and "charter.rights", yet he could post with impunity.

It doesn't matter what the stated intention of the forum is, if they are too sensitive or weak to defend their beliefs, then they aren't legitimate. Banning is the message board equivalent of what the Soviets did with people who questioned the State.

It's not emotion-based at all. My conclusion is based on reason, having come to the conclusion from observing reckless behaviour by motorcyclists. Perhaps because there are more cars than motorcycles on the road. I've certainly seen reckless car/truck drivers as well, was a passanger in a car that was involved in an accident with one, and have almost been struck down on a number of occasions by people driving cars. But I still think that motorcycles are more dangerous, and the the drivers more reckless.
