How many of you are there--aside from yourself? I applaud your desire to contribute to the political process in this country, but let's see you get the party established and in a position to field candidates in the next election.
-
There's a difference between "not valid" and "it's a stretch". It's not a level playing field. Never has been, and probably never will be. And it's not for you to say whether a party "deserve what recognition they did get". I personally think that the Cons don't deserve the recognition they get, and would like to see how they would fare if they got the same amount of meagre coverage that the Green Party does. You seem to be hopelessly naive when it comes to how the political process works in this country; you just take it for face value. I say next election the Marxist Leninist Party, CAP, Progressive Canadian Party, and Green Party get $50,000,000 each and exclusive media coverage and exclusive access to the leaders debate, and I can guarentee it that the next government would be formed by one of these parties. It's not a one-issue party. That's a willful lack of understanding on your part. Read the platform. It's no more a one-issue party than the Cons are.

Well, apparently this one was: Bloc wins by 102, but after recount loses by 69 to Liberals. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/story/20...rd-recount.html

It's not a valid argument because there is no "playoffs" in the Canadian electoral system. All parties that are approved by Elections Canada are involved in a given election, but the media determines which ones are "legitmate".

or if you own a non-polluting car polluting boats polluting mowers what about energy effciency... depends on where. not if they change their ways. http://www.mahalo.com/Al_gore_mansion

Ottawa posts $1.7-billion deficit in August

Fiscal Monitor - August 2008 http://www.fin.gc.ca/FISCMON/2008-08e.html Now who was it that was crowing about the trend leading towards a near $10b surplus????? -
It's usually referred to as an analogy... Well, the NHL admits a certain number of teams into the league, and Elections Canada has admitted a certain number of parties into federal politics. The difference is that the electoral system is designed to only allow three or four major parties to succeed. Would you want to watch a hockey game where the one team had a goal the size of a soccer goal and the other just slightly large than the size of a puck? Where three or four teams had the latter net, the rest the former?

The Liberal's plan called for significant tax reductions and a shift to polluting technologies. The less you pollute, the less you get taxed. That's an incentive. But most people are apparently are unwilling to change their lifestyles to save the planet. Well, if that's the case, live with the consequences.

I'm not a Liberal.

There is a direct connection between the NDP's advocacy of the environment and the rise of the Green Party. The NDP even went so far as to suggest that the Greens merge with them--a desperate attempt to eliminate a rival. Eventually the Greens will replace the NDP. The other parties are much too slow in responding to the environmental crisis, and it may already be too late. The other parties only express concern for the issue to win votes, the Greens are sincerely committed to the issue.
-
So I have to conclude then that you agree with David Suzuki.
-
Still, with a PR system about 97 to 99% of voters cast votes to a party that will be represented. The way our system goes, you can only vote for the party/candidate in your riding. In some cases that means that 60-70% of people who vote receive no representation.
-
Yes, really... Maybe that's because many of the polluting industries have shut down or moved to Asia for economic reasons... or the air drifts over to southern Ontario...
-
The NDP has stronger environmental policies? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL I don't think it's a matter of hypocracy, rather has to do with the Greens having a little more latitude when it comes to who they allow to run. That riding is a strong Green riding, though, thanks to the previous federal/provincial candidate who owned a bike shop.

Would you watch a sport if only the top four or five teams ever received coverage, funding, special competative advantages?
-
You see, you're still not answering my question. Do you agree with David Suzuki? Yes or no. You see, you're making no sense. If the other parties can't "out-green the greens" then why do they all try to propose environmental initiatives? And like I've said, the Green Party has forced the other parties to take the environment serious. It's clear that you don't want to admit the truth and discuss the issue based on facts; you're just arguing for arguments sake.
-
Correct.
-
LOL... so now it's "less than a million votes"...? Well, the Conservatives have less than 150 seats, so they're pretty much useless themselves...

Dion's secret agenda was to cut taxes significantly, but cleverly kept his true agenda hidden by proposing the Green Shift. So now we're stuck with the manic tax-and-spend Conservatives who are going to ruin this country... How would I know--it's a secret...
-
You know I did ask you a question: do you agree with David Suzuki? Of course the system could change, but Canadians have been grromed to be apathetic when it comes to politics. I still don't see how the "environmentalist cause" has been hurt when the Green Party has forced other parties to take the issue seriously. The United States has an abismal record when it comes to the environment. Suggesting otherwise shows a certain degree of (willful ?) ignorance on the issue. But the United States actually has two Green parties, and like all the other "minor" parties are shut out of the process. The USA's two-party system is more of a joke than ours...
-
Oh, okay. All I'm saying is things would change if the Conservatives would get a majority: the secret agenda would come out...
-
Such as? Actually, yes they are.
-
Am I jealous? How childish. I have a different political outlook and I'm frustrated that the system is set up to maintain the status quo rather than true democratic representation.
-
So you agree with Suzuki, then? David Suzuki should know that the system and not the party is at fault. Green parties in other countries do get elected and make a positive impact on politics and society. Go to Europe and you will see that the environment is taken much more seriously. Why? Because of a fairer, more democratic system that allows for peoples political views to be represented.
