Looking forward to the Holmes on Homes White House special...

Let's not get carried away. Many parts and aspects of the USA are an outright embrassment to civilization. Let's hope that Obama can change some of that, but I'm skeptical that he can do much--as Lincoln once said: a house divided cannot stand. The United States is an inherently divided house, and for that reason will be in a continuous state of falling down. The North/South divide is very telling, it shows how much things have not changed, and one has to wonder whether Obama's presidency will rekindle in some the desire for a new Confederacy. Also, while Obama is half black, he has little in common with blacks who have ancestors who were slaves and who bear the burden of a legacy of racism and segregation. Perhaps the only thing that he has in common is that his black father abandoned him at a very young age.

It really is time for the USA to become a true democracy and end this two-party nonsense.

Yeah, yeah... whatever... had McCain won, you'd be showing us with partisan drivel to no end... "victory for democracy" indeed...

"western based" The party has its roots in the Reform/CA--a western political movement/party. It doesn't matter how many seats it gets in the rest of Canada, the party is "based" in Alberta. Harper even stated when he won in 2006 that the West was "finally in".

The despite all of America's faults, these sorts of genuine historical moments are certainly a marvel to witness. Let's pray for a saner, better America for the next for years at least.

From the very day that I started posting here, M.Dancer has been making personal attacks. He's got close to 10,000 posts, and my guess is that between 95-98% of them contain some sort of insult or personal attack. Try not to view him as the victim, because he isn't. He's one of a handful of members who can go around with seeming impunity hounding, baiting, attacking other members. Why a certain group of members get special consideration is beyond me.

I guess when your world is crumbling all around you, this is the best that you can muster...

That's asking the impossible from M.Dancer. May as well ask him to climb Everest in nothing more than a pair of Speedos.

Ontario is essentially being destroyed because we have a western-based regional party in power. What's happening here is no different than some thug beating a man down, robbing him of his wallet and then turning around and giving him some change so he can take the bus home.

I'm not sure where you're getting this from. The campaigning has been going on forever and Obama managed to come out on top and is polling slightly ahead of McCain. If he loses, it will be very suspect in my opinion, but the results have to be accepted for what they are until otherwise proven wrong. If his possible defeat does spark riots, etc. then it just goes to show that the States is really going down the drain.

There's a difference between what the CPC is and what it would be if they had a majority. Harper has already displayed an authoritarian streak that should be of concern to all Canadians.

After two years of insufferable campaigning the laughable "democratic" process of electing a new president has reached election day... So now it's just a matter of enduring two years of a new bungling administration before the election process gears up again and we have to go through this all over again...

And aren't we short about $18b? So really we're not getting all that much.

Why? It's a laughably small amount, but still long overdue considering the fact that Ontario has been carrying the rest of the country for almost 150 years. Also, I wish they would do something about the HST--why I in Ontario have to pay a tax levied in the Martimes everytime I ship to one of those provinces is beyond me.

I can't get over these people and their self-absorbed notions of beauty and their own perfections; I know a lot of these so-called Beautiful People aren't "white" but underlying principle for thier sense of their own superiority seems to in a sense resemble Nazi ideology towards "racial purity".

I had the misfortune of reading M.Dancer's post when I wasn't logged in, so I suppose I'm oblidged to respond: personally, I'm inclined to think that his type type are partial to creating a culture that imbues people with a inherent sense of self-hate and self-destruction.
