  1. This is the kind of stuff people see. It's a response to our latest Nobel laureate. Who can tell if there is any legitimacy or if it's just a load of twaddle? http://magazine-directory.com/Newsweek.htm
  2. Right now Gore has been the choirmaster preaching to the choristers. Which includes the Nobel Committee. Gore does not have a hope of convincing the Republicans that global warming is for real. But if Gore actually wants to do something useful he will be talking to Mr Obama, Ms Clinton and Mr Edwards to make the environment the key issue in next year's election. Will any of them want to be seen with him?
  3. I'm sure Chrétien will claim to know nothing about it. As he did before the Gomery Commission.
  4. That's 100 Trudeaumeters. I once read that the average annual NYC snowfall was 15".
  5. The important thing about this judgment is not who financed it (I never expected that the plaintiff was some pro-environment type) or the fact that the film has errors - although the latter will hurt Gore in any political ambitions he might have. The most important thing is that the film has been judged to be "political" and that kids should be shown a balanced approached to global warming. This should stop school boards from willy-nilly just showing the film without context. Already groups in the US are taking action against school boards doing just that. In a way I hope Al does throw his hat in the ring. Not that I care about his views on immigration, Iraq or health care but being the "Green" candidate he will be forced to debate the "son-of-Kyoto" UN-sponsored approach with Bush's Gang of Six (or is it Seven?). If Gore goes with Kyoto II he is going to widely criticized for endorsing something that could Americans untold billions.
  6. The judge also said And that plus the errors will guarantee that Al Gore will never become President of the United States
  7. And the shiv goes in deeper and deeper... Nobody would have expected any less from Big Jean. Not once as PM did he ever acknowledge that he had made mistakes. It was always somebody else's fault. And to a great degree it seems to have fallen into the lap of Paul Martin - who becomes the fall guy for both the Kyoto fiasco and Afghanistan. Not surprisingly, Conrad Black and George Bush don't come out squeaky clean either. Not a legitimate history by any means but the timing is impeccable. Just what the Libs need two days before the next session of Parliament starts.
  8. The judge found the movie to be reasonable: He suggested that schools use a balanced approach to dealing with global warning, which is reasonable: http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/busi...icle2633838.ece In the event that Al is stupid enough to try for the Democratic nomination every other Dem will be merciless in repeatedly pointing out the errors in his movie.
  9. In a few days we will know if we are headed for an election. One of the key determinants will be how the CPC deals with the environment in the throne speech. We know the position of the Bloc, Libs and NDP. If the Greens have any pretensions of being a legitimate party they have to make their views known too. Lizzie May, where are you?
  10. In 2000 the US had been in an unprecedented business boom. Gore's opponent could hardly put two coherent sentences together. And all Gore had to win was to have won his own state - Tennessee. He didn't. Gore is used goods politically. The moment he throws his hat in the ring all the lies in his propaganda movie will become huge issues. No way he can come even close to winning the Dem nomination.
  11. I worked in the US for many years. To get a work permit I provided the US with oodles of personal stuff - which no doubt they still have. I have flown into the US since 9/11 so they have a record of me that way as well. If I was flying Canada-Mexico as I did recently I can't think of anything the airline could give the US about me that they don't have already. BTW, I was married in the US so they know I don't have VD.
  12. I agree. If the US is concerned about planes flying over its airspace - as it seems to be - it cannot leave enforcement of the no-fly list to the airlines. In the case involved KLM fell down on the job. If the airline has to provide the passenger list to the US government, this won't happen. As for someone who travels by air between the US and Canada I have no concern. The US already knows all about me.
  13. The other thing is that the US is not going to back down. Canada has to learn that in the post-9/11 world for the US security trumps commercial considerations. And guys, stop wishing for the Dems next year. President Clinton will be just as tough - in fact she thinks Canada is a branch plant of Al Qaeda.
  14. It's sad when politics is the deciding factor in the world's most famous prize. It also demeans those who might have had a legitimate claim to it.
  15. Not just the US and Canada. The EU is drooling over the thought of a clear NW Passage. We are going to need a lot of gunboats.
  16. It was taken over by academic "intellectuals".
  17. I'm sure the Americans understand that. They are no doubt banking on the fact that other countries don't care enough to collect this info. And if they do, so what? It's the airlines that have to do all the work.
  18. The way Cannon was talking he seems to accept that if we want to fly in their air space they have a right to the info.
  19. They also have a right to deny us access to their airspace if they want. As we can deny them access to ours. It will just make it inconvenient all round. Don't see the US backing down, especially after the Canadian government has already acknowledged that the US has a right to this info.
  20. Do you think the Oppos will force an election on Afghanistan after Harper has named a panel (headed-up by a Lib) to look at the situation? What would Dion say, "Harper must agree to pull out the troops in 2009 even before the panel makes its report?"
  21. Lots at stake here. Turkey is crucial to the US getting equipment into Iraq. And Turkey is threatening to invade Iraq to go after Kurdish insurgents. Will the Democrats back down on this? http://edition.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/10/11...ians/index.html
  22. The Minister of Transport has indicated that the US has the legal right to collect this information and that the US and Canada are "in discussions" about it. He also claims that it is through Canadian intervention that Canada-to-Canada flights through US airspace are exempted.
