  1. I think you mean the size of the enclosure (case), the processor will be the same size as any other processor from Intel. Small is the new sexy, have you ever seen an SFF (small form factor) computer? They're a little bigger than a shoebox and have all the power of a high end gaming rig. Sometimes I think that I should build one but I always change my mind. Even though SFF's are cool they still have their limitations, amount of drives supported, no SLI capability and so on. Instead Ive been toying with the idea of building a dual CPU rig, two quads and quad SLI would be very cool and monstrously powerfull compared to anyhting else, pricey but fun to build. Run a 64 bit OS and load up on high speed DDR 3.
  2. Actually, to be factually correct it should read, the Allies won with some help from the Russians.
  3. I hate to throw water on your little fantasy but here's a news flash. The colonists have not and did not exterminate all Indians. Thats why they still live in North America (Natives that is) because they weren't exterminated. Or were there some other Indians perhaps, you know, the exterminated ones.
  4. Well when you consider the fact that this machine is nothing special at all the brand name could be very significant. Maybe they should just call it Hyrid and drop all the crap about how special it is.
  5. Yet another who doesn't have a clue as to the actual history of that conflict. No one nation "won" WWII, it was a collective effort of the Allies that defeated the Axis. Russia most certainly did not "win" WWII.
  6. When it comes to Beaver I'm very affectionate, in fact I just can't get enough Beaver. I'd be getting beaver day and night 24/7 if I could, that's how much I like Beaver.
  7. You must have a very short memory. You don't remember a certain liberal stomping on a George Bush doll? You don't remember the same person making comments about "damn Americans?
  8. Well I just checked it out and as I suspected its a dog. Low end last gen Intel processor, integrated graphics, hohum drive, miniscule power supply. In other words its okay if you just want to surf the web or run word processors and get e-mail. If like me you demand that your machine be capable of just about anything realistic then it would fall far short of the mark. As for all this hybrid stuff, why is it a hybrid? If you look at the specs you'll see that it really is no different from any other machine using energy efficient components. It looks to me like the true breakthrough here came from the advertising department, not the R&D department. Also some misleading stuff included as well. They say that the 4 gigs of ram allows you to do this and that. What they don't mention is the fact that a 32 bit operating system can only "see" a maximum of 2.4 gigs. So the other 1.6 gigs are essentially wasted. Like I said earlier, I wouldn't buy this dog, sure is pretty though, all those different colours to choose from. That probably makes it go faster. Anyway, here it is for those who are interested. This dog won't hunt.
  9. So very true. That's why no one listened to Hitler either.
  10. Interesting, for others, not me. When they say it has the power of a regular desktop what exactly do they mean? There are a plethora of processors, video cards, RAM, MB's etc available. All these components offer different levels of performance ranging from adequate to smokin hot, so the bit about as much power as a regular desktop is pretty meaningless. For instance my machine utilizes a quad core CPU that runs at 2.4, mine however is OC'd so it actually runs at 3.1, this obviously does not fall into any easily defined performance category (actually it does, the faster than you can believe category). It's too bad they don't offer any specs that really matter, wireless is a nice little gimmick but the MB, VC etc are far more important than wireless. On top of that its a piece of Dell scrap. You couldn't pay me enough to use one of those junkers. Power usage. As die sizes shrink the power requirements of CPU's also diminish. The low power consumption aspect merely tells me that this machine has no balls. The other components add significantly to the power consumption of the machine. A powerful VC will suck the power supply dry (that's why I run a 1000 watt PS in my machine). With two 8800 GTX cards running in SLI I need at least a 650 Watter, Add the two drives running in a Raid 0 stripe and the Raptor running as a gaming drive and the power requirements rise even more. So in short this machine they advertised may not consume much power but I'm willing to bet its a dogs dog when it comes to performance. The best advice in these cases would be to avoid Dell, HP, Compac and all the other mass producers and just build your own. That way you can hand pick the components and get the best bang for the buck. Oh yes, if you want performance from your peripherals stay away from wireless. Thats why I use a Razor Lachesis corded mouse and a Saiteck Eclipse keyboard, wireless just sucks when it comes to gaming.
  11. Has anyone mentioned this one yet? The Camel. The Original Dogfigter I've always associated this aircraft with the Spitfire for some reason. Difficult to fly but very manouverable, fast with a fast rate of climb, good dive capabilities, not the most heavily armed but very effective with what it had. Lets not forget the German equivalent, the D VII Albatross. She was a plane ahead of her time, sleek, powerfull and deadly. What I find quite telling is the fact that even with advanced Aircraft like the D VII Germany was never able to take control of the air. DVIII, Sleek and Beautifull When I was a kid growing up (like thats happened yet!) one of the old planes that most fascinated me was the Focker Triplane. It looked odd but it worked so well. Those triple wings gave it an edge in areas like clinb rate, and dive. Also manouverability and surviveability. Here's a beautifull example, it's a model though. Hard to find original triplanes now. Focker Anyway, these are some of my favourite planes.
  12. As I mentioned earlier (you must have missed it), by the time they reach that level they have far more than a high school level education. As mentioned, at that level they posses training that exceeds many of their civilian counterparts. Hence the reason civilian companies head hunt military members. That being the case their salaries are entirely reasonable. Where we could save a great deal of money is the officer corps, we have a shit load more of them than we need.
  13. Don't really see what the big deal is myself. Of course it'll be spun into the biggest thing since sliced bread.
  14. This makes no sense. Ontario does not support Alberta, Alberta injects huge amounts of money into the economy and if anything could be said it would have to be that Alberta supports a large percentage of the rest of the country. Next up will be Saskatchewan with their oil fields. Then everyone in Ontario can start hating them as well while they hold their hands out for Western generated revenue.
  15. No one can reach that level in five years. For instance, as a Marine Engineer you are not eligible to attend your first tech course until you have at least four years in, then you usually wait at the very least for a year to be course loaded. The course is 18 months long so theres another two years (roughly). Then you have to do your cert one, another year to two years before you sit and pass the board. After that count on at least a couple of years before being course loaded for your next tech course. Then you have to do the OJT for that level and sit another board. As you can see, no corporal will attain that level in five years. This is a situation that looks like one thing on paper but is actually an entirely different story in actual practice. Those who have served understand how the system works, those who have not can never fully understand it, no matter how many official releases they read.
  16. Thats possible, if they did two back to backs in one year it could put them close to that, and so it should, they're the ones spending a year in hell. One way to cut expenses on salaries would be to thin out the Officer Corps. Canada has a far higher rate of Officers to men than any other NATO country, we don't need so many, especially when you consider that a great many of them are practically useless in an environment other than an office. Last I heard we had over a hundred and thirty Generals, ridiculous when you consider the size of our Armed Forces. Years ago they thinned the numbers of Generals but it didn't take long for that number to creep up again. Scott Taylor is a great source for info of that type, probably why the brass hate him so much and he was ineptly spied upon by CSIS.
  17. Just as I thought. The pay levels have risen but no where near the claimed 70k for a five year corporal as was claimed, those guys are in the high 30's low 40's. Pretty much in line with what I suspected. These guys deserve to make more, as I said earlier, their level of training and expertise exceeds that of their civilian counterparts.
  18. If what you say is true then things have really changed since I retired in 01. The vacation part is correct, and they should get generous vacation allowances. How many other jobs require one to spend years away from home under hazardous conditions. Personnel need the release from stress. As for pay, I'll check it out, I don't think they come anywhere close to 70 grand a year. I was spec II and didn't come close to that, upon retirement I was making about 47 and change before taxes. When I first joined my take home pay was just over 14 grand a year, granted that was back in 82 however it was still low at that time and hard to support a wife on as a newly wed. Housing is no longer subsidized by the military, now members must live on the economy like everyone else. As for the Medical and Dental end of things, well it just makes sense that they want to keep that in house. Members still pay into Provincial health plans though. They also pay EI, even though they will never get the chance to draw it, ever. I've heard that they've made efforts to bring pay scales up to match those in the economy but I'm not sure of the specifics. As for the high school diploma thing, well its kinda meaningless in the context of military training. when they're done with you you can hold your head high in any equivalent civilian occupation. In fact military training regularly exceeds the standards set in civilian training programs. This is one reason that various companies actively attempt to recruit experienced military personnel above civilians. Another would be the knowledge that military people have comprehensive experience relating to discipline, motivation and the necessity of the task at hand. These are factors I have personally found to be lacking or entirely missing amongst the majority of civilian workers that I've met since retiring. Personally my attitude is pay the guys more, they deserve it, after all they are offering up their lives if need be. How much would that be worth to you? Almost forgot. The pension isn't all that generous. After 20 years service I receive 1300.00 a month, not enough to actually retire on.
  19. This is beyond description. I can't remember the last time I saw a post so blatantly loud and vacuous. The entire rant is based on nothing but ignorance and manages to reduce all immigrants to the lowest common denominator. Ironic when you consider that in one way or another we're all immigrants, some of us more recent than others.
  20. Why would I bother wasting my time trying to research what can only be classed as fantasy? Something so improbable that you can't even back it up even after multiple requests from multiple people. Good to see the juvenile insults still flowing from you, keep it up. You do more to discredit yourself than I ever could. The funniest part though is the fact that you can't even see what an idiot you make of yourself.
  21. See how wrong you can be! Can't stand cheesies, I much prefer plain chips with dip myself.
  22. Thats your opinion and as such its worth about the same thing as usual, nothing. Besides, I'd rather be a killer troll than a bald faced liar.
  23. Well I've spent a few days looking on the web and apart from corn there aren't any scientific achievements or accomplishments accredited to North American Natives. It would appear CR is once again just making stuff up and trying to pass it off as fact. Perhaps I didn't look thoroughly enough though and some Native Grand Unification Theory has been overlooked. I doubt it though. If anyone can find anything of any significance post a link to it. If such does actually exist I would be very interested to know what exactly these advances over Europeans actually constitute.
  24. Too true. Many times I've asked and waited for credible proof from this poster and never seen a single shred of it. Ignore is looking like the best option in this case.
  25. You should know. Armed conflict has produced peace many times throughout history. For you to deny that is to be either ignorant, uninformed or willfully blind. In your case I believe its a combination of all three.
