Harper didn't break his own law
AngusThermopyle replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Once again, Harper didn't break the law. How many times does it have to be repeated before you realize that he didn't break the law? Or is it just that you don't wish to acknowledge this fact and prefer to use any ammunition you can, even if it is in fact false? -
What is your take on Sarah Palin?

Wow! What a perfect demonstration of unassailable logic! NOT!!! -
Both of you are really dating yourselves now. I'm not even going to admit to knowing that song. Besides I always had a very strong aversion to The Irish Rovers.

Of course you do, doing so would seriously undermine Canada's position in NATO. This in turn would cause a weakening of NATO and as such a weakening of the only force that curbs Russia's aggressive tendencies. Of course that would make it possible for Russia to spread its long standing policy of peace and cooperation with greater ease. Anyway, sarcasm aside. You see no problem with abandoning the average Afghani to the tender mercies of the Taliban?

Actually the provincial governments of BC, Ontario, and the Maritimes also have fixed dates (there are a couple more provinces but I can't remember which ones right now) each of them also has an escape clause in the fixed election date laws. No different in essence from the federal one. What promise? Care to post a link pointing to where Harper made this nebulous promise?

Learn the facts, not the populist fantasy. Just take a quick trip out to "Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump" and you'll see the truth. They would run hundreds off the cliff and utilize only a few of them. By the way, "Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump" is a world heritage site and much of the information is provided by the Natives on whose land the site is located. So if you have a problem with the truth take it up with them and correct their understanding of their history and customs. I have lots of Blackfoot friends who would love to have you lecture them about their culture and past practices.

Most certainly, when those citizens are Taliban. we should just keep occupating until the Afghan government is ready and able to take over the job. Of course they won't have to occupate anything as they're already citizens of Afghanistan, unlike a great many of the Taliban who are actually trying to occupate Afghanistan.

Once again, Harper did not break the law. As written the law allows an escape clause on fixed election dates so long as certain criteria are met. These criteria were met, therefore no law was broken. It would be better if you could get off your broken record kick, especially since the information you provide is invalid.
-
If you actually looked at the law as written you would see that it includes an escape clause to allow an election under given circumstances. Those circumstances have been met so therefore no law is broken.

Now thats an argument I can get behind, basically what I've always believed. Yes, self responsibility is key to all we that do, although when I've mentioned this specifically in relation to other groups the negative response has been swift and unmistakable.

And once again our intrepid poster is unaware of the irony just dripping from this statement.

Nicaragua recognizes South Ossetia, Abkhazia

There's a new one? Who is it? -
I'm not really sure what your post is trying to say specifically. Are you asking if the needle exchange program should be scrapped and a 500 bed treatment center be opened instead?

The Coward of Caledonia?
AngusThermopyle replied to Wild Bill's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Good point, its one that simply can not be refuted by any rational standard. -
The Coward of Caledonia?

Did I ever say it didn't? You must not have understood what I was saying. What I said was that no culture has advanced to any great degree without the Alphabet. Those cultures that never developed a written form of speech never made great strides and instead stagnated. It was written language that gave us a real and meaningfull manner in which to pass on or store ideas. Word of mouth is fine to a degree however it is not and never has been a satisfactory method when the concepts become complex. Many ancient African cultures never knew the horse yet they advanced and reached hights above any before them in those regions. The one thing such cultures invariably had in common was a written form of language. Why anyone would argue the importance of the Alphabet is quite frankly beyond me as its generally acknowledged that written language is key to the advancement of various civilizations. Now its my turn to say wrongo. Horses used to be indigenous to the North American continent. As to why they went extinct in North America, well that is still open to debate however one of the most credible theories is that they were over hunted as a food source. I'll try to dig up the article I was reading as I forget the date of the Horse die off. It certainly was after North America was inhabited however. -

While I agree that the horse was an animal of the utmost importance to Western civilization I disagree that it was the most important. The same applies to the printing press etc. You are forgetting about that most essential development without which most other developments would not have occured. The Alphabet. Civilisations that developed the written word and written record keeping have always, without exception exceeded the accomplishments of those that did not. It may seem like a simple thing but practically all advances are owed in one way or another to the Alphabet. -

Too true. Go over to the "Coward" thread and you'll see some even more absurd assertions from the same old same old. Just looking at the last post in that thread has finally confirmed for me the fact that the poster does not function in a rational manner, at least as is generally accepted as being rational. Sorry: I should have said the second last post.

Open warfare in South Ossetia
AngusThermopyle replied to moderateamericain's topic in The Rest of the World
And I'm sure that coming from a highly reputable source like him its the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. You'll have to do better than citeing Putin, its not like he has no stake at all in all of this. -
Excellent! I love it when you can't resist compounding your stupidity. I must admit that I'm baffled by the reference to violence, I guess it must be part of the alternate reality which exists for you because you think it should, or some such crap anyway.

Care to provide some links or cites for your claims? Or are you just going with your usual style of making shit up? Care to show me where I said they did? Oh, thats right, I didn't, so you can't. Just keep on making stuff up though, thats one thing you know how to do. What I did say was that Natives never got that one, it had to be given to them.
