She does indeed. Just so long as it kisses Bush's ass and isn't critical of him. I fail to see what is not to understand about what American Woman is saying. If you check out the link you'll see her comments are accurate. Hell, they jailed two people because they didn't like their t-shirts. Pretty damn draconian if you ask me.

Canadian C-17 (CC-177) Lands in Afghanistan
AngusThermopyle replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I care, and I'm willing to bet the vast majority of serving members care. Does that answer your question? -
Ha! I knew it, Garrison soldier. I suggest you ask for an operational TD and find out what the military actually really is. Sitting in a second or third line unit doesn't count.

I really don't think it was deliberate Buffy. I think it was more just an honest mistake. In the west we tend to be less sensitive overall about these things. The East on the other hand is a place where peoples adherence to the faith is under daily scrutiny. It's easy to become enraged by meaningless perceived slights when you hate with a passion the ones committing the alleged slight. Our society is one where you wont be lynched by a mob for some harmless oversight or lack of perception. Its one of the very major differences between our culture and theirs. I also happen to think that its a pretty big leap of faith to state "they knew it" so categorically and emphatically.

Moderate Islam? According to Some, Not Really
AngusThermopyle replied to jbg's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I'd forgotten that, you're right. That shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone though, when you consider that the Quran specifically mentions any lie is fair game when dealing with the Infidels. Really, more people should read the thing if they want to understand the basis for these present problems we have. It doesn't really have much to do with bombs and the like, maybe a little, but not much, history has shown that time and again in respect to Islam. -
Moderate Islam? According to Some, Not Really

Yes, in some cases they did, in others it was obvious that the audience was Islamic. Why do you ask? -
Moderate Islam? According to Some, Not Really
AngusThermopyle replied to jbg's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I have the movie with the interview in it. It's called "Obsession", a documentary. It's very good, it also explains the Hitler/Nazi Germany connection with Islam very well. The footage of the schools is shocking, little kids shouting Jihadist poetry whilst overcome by emotion. Yelling that they want to put on the bombers vest and die for Allah. That to me is the worst form of child abuse. It also shows "moderate Mullahs" talking publicly about peace. Then it shows the same Mullahs on hidden camera saying the exact opposite and inciting Jihad. The kill all infidels Jihad, not the kinder gentler version. It's certainly worth watching. -
Does your neighbourhood Pass the Popsicle Test
AngusThermopyle replied to M.Dancer's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
This is great. It gave my place a score of 15 out of a hundred. It left out pretty much everything in town, schools, parks, restaurants, stores, bars. Everything. Must be because I live in a small town. -
First oilsands leases sold in Saskatchewan
AngusThermopyle replied to B. Max's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
thats pretty inevitable I guess. The days of trading a house for a paperclip are over. Even so the prices are still low. I can see the market going the way it has here, you cant get a run down shack for less than $180,000 around here now. -
I don't dispute what you are saying AW, in large part it speaks eloquently and honestly. I must also add that I'm filled with admiration for your astonishing ability to recall passing conversation word for word at least 6 to 8 moths after the alleged conversation took place. Bravo to you!

This is the part that gets me. What the hell does it mean exactly? Housing is irrelevant, we can build them cheap and fast. it's the Land they sit on thats worth the money, not the actual buildings. This clown pisses me off. He has no actual experience to back up the crap he spouts off about the state of the world, but he feels free to pontificate about all that is wrong with Canada and Canadians. He was a PolySci major for gods sake! His old lady is a T.V. personality who merely parrots her old mans party line. So why does anyone even give these a#%holes the time of day? Sure, he's the leader we want, the leader we need. You can tell that by his troop supporting visits to Afghanistan ( they are Canadians over there after all). Oops! Sorry, i forgot about how he's trying desperately to get over there, he just hasn't been given the "go ahead" yet. SURE! As the leader of a major political party why doesn't the spineless wimp reach between his legs and find some balls? maybe for once in his life he should shut his cake hole and just show us how impassioned he is by all of this. I really don't think that will happen soon though.

Thats true. It really pisses me off when I see our leaders so eager to jump into bed with the Chinese. I guess the Tibetan people don't count for much in their estimation. The Chinese ruling class don't appear to give much of a damn about anyone actually. They are apparently adopting the Alberta COR safety program, I believe this is purely for appearances sake. They have an absolutely horrendous record when it comes to worker safety. I wonder how many workers they'll kill in the process of preparing for the Olympics.

Actually it's pretty much acknowledged that the Roman Empire was founded around 1000 BC and ended around 476 AD. Fifteen hundred years, not a bad run at all. It's believed they succeeded so well because of Geographic location and knowledge garnered from the Greeks who settled areas of the southern coast of present day Italy.

The Official Food Discussion Thread
AngusThermopyle replied to jefferiah's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
That Mars bar thing must be pretty recent, never had that when I lived there. They do eat some pretty disgusting stuff though, fried bread is one that comes to mind. Seafood, thats another of my favourites. I love Lobster, Crab, fish, Shrimp and Scallops. I don't like Clams and Oysters though. That was one thing I loved about living in Halifax/Dartmouth, the seafood was about as fresh as you could get. I also loved the Donairs you could get there, they just don't make them the same way in other parts of Canada. -

No, do you have any idea what houses and land are going for in that Province? I suggest that next time before you blurt something out you do a little research on the subject. -
Sorry, I mixed you up with Kuzzad. However from what you've both said I can surmise that you both have more than a passing familiarity with the industry. I'm not Mr. anything right now but if you know some good looking women just send them right over. Pronto.

You think? I think not. One only has to look at your verbal posturing to realize that it is no more than empty rhetoric designed to impress and stifle debate. By the way, what exactly makes you feel like you are witty? I have an idea! Lets all of us who find you to be witty raise our hands. Come on guys! Raise your hands!!! What an overwhelming response. Good night, I have to work tomorrow and this is entirely too much time spent on you. It occurs to me that you might just want to think about how you interact with others.

I can tell your husband works in construction. All our framing is steel. There is a distinction between commercial and residential buildings. Most residential buildings use wood as a structural component, commercial buildings in the most part use steel. I say "in the most part" because there are certain exemptions. We do advertise ourselves as offering "turn key" buildings though. That means we will take the building from ground up, thats why we need guys who can work steel and also do the finishing work. Kimmy, if your old man is good at what he does do you think he might like a new job?

Actually there is a long list from what i gather. There's only one problem. The professional people who have spoken publicly about this have basically committed career and social suicide. The ones from other countries have been ridiculed and overwhelmed by a barrage of "expert" witnesses from the U.S. Now look what you've done. I told you I didn't want to give an uninformed opinion because I didn't and never would have all the facts. All I did was point out that your assumptions about the way all buildings collapse was false. Actually, not just false but contrary to the physical laws of the Universe we accept to be true and live by. Your next glaringly false statement was that all steel buildings have to have fire retardent applied to the main structural components. In order to see thats false you don't even have to go to the codes. Just go take a look at any large industrial building. I bet all you'll see is steel, painted of course, but no fire retardent coating, unless you count paint as a fire retardent coating. Of course if you go to some apartment complex or public building you wont see the structural members. Thats why I say you should go see a commercial building, the biggest you can find. A steel framed building is a steel framed building. They're all built the same way. The laws of Physics don't vary from building to building.
-
Can I ask you two questions? How much steel have you worked with? How many buildings have you put up? I do believe that I've asked you this before and you haven't answered yet. We work with pretty big steel. We move it, we lift it, we cut it, we join it. Nothing on the scale of the WTC, but big steel none the less. When you work with steel on a daily basis you come to understand it and what it can do. Do you realize the amount of heat required to cut or melt a structural component? In some of our buildings we have flanged HSS (I-Beams) that measure 40'x 60" x 30" and weigh around 9 tons. Thats a big piece of steel but it's not the biggest the Columns are obviously far bigger. We do not treat any of them with flame retardent material. I will repeat. We do not treat any of them with flame retardent material. Is that un-obfuscated enough for you? We put up multi million dollar buildings, I'm pretty sure that someone around the place would have noticed by now if we had to treat our structural components with fire retardent material. Don't ya think?

Thats a very astute observation. Do any of you guys remember how the Surete du Quebec handled the Oka crisis? These guys are renouned for screwing things up, sort of a cross between Inspector Clouseau and the Keystone Cops. It's all well and good to speak of law and order, good government and being a good citizen who uses his rights in a democratic manner. If you have representation in the democratic process, thats fine and how it should be. However if you do not have representation in the process then you're screwed. I think those who are talking about voting and so on should keep this in mind. If your leaders dont listen to you then what else can you do but protest in order to get their attention. We must keep in mind that some of the changes that shaped this world of ours were brought about by much needed revolution. Not that I approve of or advocate anarchistic beliefs and actions, I do however understand the need for protest. When you have a government without representation as we do sometimes the only option is to protest.

The Official Food Discussion Thread
AngusThermopyle replied to jefferiah's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Thats not a bad idea actually. I love to talk about food and "ahem" Beverages. The why don't you eat pork thread turned into a food discussion and I was enjoying it quite a bit even though I felt a little guilty (easily suppressed) about "thread hijacking". Well I guess it's pretty obvious from what I said in the other thread that I'm a meat eater. As for drinks, I like pure juice, orange, apple, tomatoe that kind of stuff. As for alcoholic beverages I pretty much just drink beer and wine now although I do occasionally like a good Scotch or Rye. I have a pretty good wine collection but it's hard to maintain. When the guy's from work come over more than one or two bottles get drunk. I think I have 22-25 bottles in the cooler now but I do have to stock it up again, it'll hold 44 bottles. I don't care for German wines but I do like some of the Australian and New Zealand wines. There are also a lot of very good Canadian and Californian wines. Some terrific French wines too as well as Italian, though with the Italian wines you have to be a little more careful. I've found that they vary from one extreme to the other in taste and viscosity. Oh yeah, when the guy's come over we drink beer too. I made it sound like they were the prissy construction workers, nope, they're dirty and smelly and uncouth, just as they should be.We drink beer. Kokanee, Pil, Canadian that sort of stuff. Sometimes we'll drink Bud as well. Now I think about it this is actually appropriate. In past times beer was actually worshiped by some cultures. I was reading about it, fascinating stuff. Apparently they believed it must be divine because of it's effects, they thought it was a manifestation of the Nirvana of the gods. It might just be a better world today if people believed in beer over deities. I've never seen one of my buddies inspired by beer to strap on a bomb vest or blow up some building, they usually just become incoherent, stumble around and laugh a lot while they talk loudly and play the music way too loud. I imagine that traffic fatalities would skyrocket though. -
I think so, not sure though. I spent 20 years in the Military so I'm not really sure what the norm is in the civilian world. Like I said, I had 3 meetings to get this job. The first was to find out what skills I possessed that would benefit the company, conducted by my boss. The second was to see what I thought I could contribute, my boss is a very intelligent and astute man by the way. In those two meetings he assessed both myself and my capabilities. The third was just so his partner would be able to meet me before he hired me. Based on that experience I would say they may be looking at your friend for some kind of supervisory or managerial position. I think being called three times is a good sign. These people aren't going to waste their time if they aren't interested. After all time is money.

What is Kohl Rabbi? Is it a Tuber, leafy green, Legume? How is it best prepared? I love to cook, when I was single I started my "Single guy's Cookbook". I collected the best recipes I could find, it really was an exceptional collection of recipes. Unfortunately I've since lost it, now I'm starting all over again. I remember some of the recipes though. One of my favourites was Chicken Scalopini in a really nice white wine sauce with Tomatoes and just enough fresh cream to thicken it.

Buffalo can be dry, so can Caribou. It depends on how you cook it. Buffalo and Caribou dont cook like beef. It's easy to overcook them, when cooked correctly they are both sublime. Buffalo tastes somewhat like beef, just richer and more flavourfull, it's ungodly expensive though, $44.00 a kilogram. If I had to pay for it I probably wouldn't eat it. I also really really like Escargot, you know, when it's prepared with Mushroom caps and Mozzarella cheese. Yep, us Albertans are just your basic meat and potatoes and Escargot types. Actually I'm a recent import to this province, but I love it here.
