Censorship of the Internet
Moonlight Graham replied to GostHacked's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Australia is pretty harsh censorship-wise compared to most every other "westerny" democratic country. Censorship sucks, but when it comes to child-porn & horrible crap like that i have no problem throwing up a ban. -

Belief in God - Dawkins Spectrum of Probabilities
Moonlight Graham replied to msj's topic in Religion & Politics
Do i believe there is a "God", as defined by Christianity, Judaism, Islam etc.? I believe there is a decent probability but i'm not 100% certain. Maybe 60% certain. But do i believe there is a higher power, a higher being or beings or force that created this universe (but not as the Bible says)? Yes i do believe that. -

Poll: Who's more intolerant?
Moonlight Graham replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Religion & Politics
Agreed. What an ignorant poll. Jerry, i probably could count on one hand how many Muslims you've had more than a 5 minute conversation with. -
The video is too funny. And yes, throwing/hitting with shoes does have significance in Iraqi/Arab culture. Doesn't everyone remember when they toppled the Saddam statue shortly after the U.S. invaded Iraq & tons of Iraqi's were in the streets hitting the statue's head with their shoes? From BBC News: "...Locals vented their anger at Saddam Hussein by attacking effigies of the man - with their shoes. The imagery is strong - shoes are a symbol of "dirt and degradation" in the Arab world, says Professor Faleh Jabar, a writer on Iraqi culture. "Going into someone's house or a mosque, you would always take your shoes off first. Shoes are used to beat servants, thieves, prostitutes; it indicates servility. Were you to beat your children, this would be done with a stick or the hand, but never shoes."

Bush still just doesn't get it
Moonlight Graham replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The absolute hypocrisy. -
Was watching tv last night, and came on this interview with Bush on ABC's Nightline about his faith. This quote is just priceless: “No, I'm not sure he's (the leader of the Taliban) praying to a God. I think anybody who murders innocent people to achieve their objective is not a religious person. They may think they’re religious and they may play like they’re religious. But I don’t think they are religious. They’re not praying to the God I pray to, the God of peace and love. And that’s one of the great ironies about this. You know, we’re in a so-called religious war. I don’t view this as a war of religion. I view this as a war of good, decent people of all faiths against people who murder innocent people to achieve a political objective.” Unbelievable (well, maybe not). The transcript.

Landed immigrants seek vote
Moonlight Graham replied to Chuck U. Farlie's topic in Local Politics in Canada

I hope you mean "the growing threat of RADICAL Islam", not the religion itself.

Why have Israelifascists overtaken this board?!
Moonlight Graham replied to aras's topic in The Rest of the World
LOL @ "Israelifascists". Thats one i never heard before. Also, even though i'm against any xenophobia on these forums, does any anti-islam/Arab post automatically mean pro-Israel? I don't think so. There's just a bunch of ignorant people on this boards. -
Obama Keeps Gates as SecDef
Moonlight Graham replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Powell never wanted to be President anyways. I believe his wife didn't approve of it (ie: his high chance of being assassinated). -

THE BLOCK DOES NOT HAVE JURISDICTION
Moonlight Graham replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I have no problem with them being a nation within a nation. There's a big difference between being a nation and being a nation-state. I agree. It would be easier for Canadians to swallow them seperating if they were B.C. or Newfoundland. -
Canada's Impending Constitutional Crisis
Moonlight Graham replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I highly doubt the ID problem was a pro or a con for any particular party. I'm sure voters who didn't bring their ID's were fairly evenly distributed among the different party supporters. -
Obama Keeps Gates as SecDef
Moonlight Graham replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Gates will make a great scapegoat. Dumb decision on this one, though he's certainly no Rumsfeld. I would have liked Colin Powell. -
Is Canada a Capitalist or Socialist country?
Moonlight Graham replied to windyman's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Canada is capitalist first and foremost, with socialist elements. So is the U.S. by the way, though Canada has more socialist aspects than the U.S. This poll is putting capitalism and socialism on the extreme right and left of the political scale, as if there's no inbetween. You are basically makking people choose between whether Canada is laissez-faire capitalist or communist, when the obvious answer is "neither". -
American Facism Continues.
Moonlight Graham replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Your definition does not come close to fully describing fascism. The "fascism" label is thrown around MUCH too frequently these days, mostly for shock value (as in this thread). Fascism has a very particular definition. What you define is much closer to authoritarianism or autocracy etc. Basically your argument is that the U.S. is a de facto single-party state. P.S. you continually misspelled the word "fascism", which doesn't really lend credibility to your argument. -
Bill Clinton or George W. Bush?
Moonlight Graham replied to 1967100's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Hey i can upgrade my ratings. I give Bill a B- (was a little too harsh on him) Bush gets a F- x 100 -
Obama and the recent past
Moonlight Graham replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
And yet it didn't take much for Bush to chip away at the "survival and the success of liberty" in the U.S. Constitution. The Fourth Amendment be damned! BTW, i know a few hundred thousand dead Iraqi/Afghani innocent civilians who aren't feeling much "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" right about now. But i guess liberty only counts for Americans, right?
