When you think about it, it's pretty disgusting that so many in the developed world are overweight fatsos, while at the same time about 1 billion people, mostly from developing countries, suffer from what's defined as "chronic hunger" (source: UN) Cue the ignorant responses.

that was awesome!

I have a good friend who is Chinese. He got married and had a wedding reception at a traditional Chinese restaurant (not the deep-fried eggrolls & chicken-fried rice stuff, but real Chinese). It was all healthy stuff, different sorts of vegetables, tofu, and meats. Little or no battered deep-fried stuff and few carbs. Dessert was even a bean pudding, and wasn't sweet at all and didn't taste like a dessert lol (ie: more bean than pudding haha) Asian people are generally leaner and more healthy, and now I know in part why. Americans/Canadians are fat because we eat garbage, plus we sit on our ass more and more.

Is Trade Better than Transfers?
Moonlight Graham replied to August1991's topic in Political Philosophy
I didn't hijack your thread. The second part of your OP: Also, is it even possible to hijack a thread that had no new responses in the last week? I saved this sinking ship, not hijacked it! -
Viewing Child Porn – Mental Illness or Criminal Evil?

Thread Q Part 2: Viewing Adult Porn - For Lonely Losers or Completely Awesome? -
My predictions: - Fearing defeat in the US election, in order to gain more support from conservative voters Barrack Obama will bleach his skin, and during all stumps will begin performing Christian healing miracles while having an M16 strapped across his back. - The Dalai Lama will get arrested for beating his wife. - Bert will die of AIDS, and a heartbroken Ernie will shack up with Snuffy. Oscar will finally get evicted after occupying Sesame Street for 40 years. - James Carville of CNN will annoy people.

I'm disappointed this topic didn't get more responses. Forger the "right vs left" thing in the OP. Is trade better than transfers for the developing world? -
I noticed that Oleg Bach got banned a couple of months ago too. I remember he got suspended, but then I guess he just kept it going or something.

Viewing Child Porn – Mental Illness or Criminal Evil?
Moonlight Graham replied to Big Guy's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Ok well fine then. But I don't see how the label changes anything. Also, agreed with what jbg said, give them some non-judgmental treatment that 100% protects their privacy and teaches them how to control their urges. Maybe give them free passes to a local strip-club too lol. -
Viewing Child Porn – Mental Illness or Criminal Evil?
Moonlight Graham replied to Big Guy's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
It's not mental illness, these people just find children sexually attractive the same as men find women attractive and gays find someone of the same sex attractive. It's how they're wired. They can't help the feelings of attraction just as man can't help lusting for women. But someone attracted to children should NEVER act on it because it's obviously wrong. The problem is, how do you prevent pedophilia or help/"cure" them? It's the same as asking: how do you stop a man from being sexually attracted to women? Castration has proven to relieve the symptoms of desire, and some pedophiles have voluntarily undergone it, but forced castration presents obvious problems. I feel bad for these people that have this desire that's not their fault, but they should all realize it's wrong and refuse to act on it. The alternative is prison, simple choice. -
What a ridiculous comment based on your own speculation. Thanks for dragging the debate down to the kindergarten level. You can't comprehend in your brain that people disagree with you, so you call them anti-American racists or whatever the heck. If I criticize the US government it doesn't mean I'm anti-American, it means I'm anti stupid policy. If I criticize the Canadian government it doesn't mean I'm anti-Canadian, it means I'm anti stupid policy.

Yes, "occupy" seems an inaccurate term. Also, bin Laden was enemies with the Saudi government. They exiled him. He also had big plans following 9/11 to wage war against and topple the Saudi regime, and many al-Qaeda attacks occurred in S.A. with this goal: http://www.twq.com/08spring/docs/08spring_riedel.pdf You don't seem to understand my viewpoint, so debating with you is frustrating. My argument in brief: I don't condone the attacks, and the victims didn't deserve their fate (though someone more heartless than me could argue some killed in the Pentagon "deserved" it). I think bin Laden et al. were/are religious nutjobs. They're obviously very intelligent, but their specific religious ideology is illogical and immoral. At the same time, the US & the West were asking for trouble...and they got it. In other words, they had it coming. That doesn't mean they deserved it, it means they were asking for it. Also, just because they are religious fanatics doesn't automatically mean their beefs with US foreign policy are illogical, which seems to be your argument. If ie: your innocent family was killed in an airstrike by a foreign country, you probably also wouldn't be sympathetic that is was "just collateral damage", and you'd probably be PO'd too. The question shouldn't be "why did 9/11 happen?", but rather "why did it take this long to occur?". Again, I'm not saying I condone it, I'm saying I understand why it could happen. I'm sympathetic to some of their grievances, but completely disagree with their murderous tactics. Maybe if they copied Gandhi's satyagraha tactics of non-violent disobedience they could have got further and with much less blood on both sides. Same goes with the Palestinians.

Yes, but there are reasons why they are considered "the Great Satan". US foreign policy in the middle east is a big one. For Bin Laden, one of his primary beefs was that the US established military bases during the 1991 Gulf War (with Saudi permission, whom he also considers an enemy) in the Land of the Two Holy Places, ie: Mecca & Medina in Saudi Arabia, the two holiest sites of Islam. From wikipedia: "Bin Laden's 1996 fatwā is entitled "Declaration of War against the Americans Occupying the Land of the Two Holy Places". It is a long piece, and complains of American activities in numerous countries. It was faxed to supporters across the world." Let's just agree to disagree. As Ron Paul says, the reasons for 9/11 are well documented. People have either done the reading (Paul) or haven't (Rudy Guliani).

Just from reading the news over the past decade, the US military has increasingly been relying on drone use, and it started with Bush, so I don't see how one can give Obama credit, unless there is some source saying he ordered or approved a ramp up of their use.

What video games are you playing right now?
Moonlight Graham replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Arts and Culture
I always wondered why they made expansion packs for TES games. If there are any games in the world that have enough content on release to not need expansion packs, it's Elder Scrolls games. I've racked up over 100 hours each on Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion and never got through finishing the main quests on either. -

AW, here's that conversation specifically: Moonlight responds: This is an excellent point, one you hear very seldom, even from Americans. Though i would replace the phrase "all the ills" with "many (or most) of the ills". Maybe you (and other Americans) should explore this further, and try to list the different things the US has given to the world. Much of it may be hard to empirically quantify, but so are many of the negative influences charged to the US. I've read a good article on this subject (though at times a bit chest-thumping) by Robert Kagan, printed in the well-known scholarly journal Foreign Policy: The Benevolent Empire One thing I know for sure, i'm very grateful to have the US as the lone world superpower compared to many other nations who could have or may replace them (ie: USSR/Russia, China, Iran etc.). In 20 years people may be begging to have the US back as the hegemon if China starts to equal or surpass US power. The above article makes this point as well. So I'm not all Debbie Downer on the US, and you've forgotten this. The world is lucky to have the US as the hegemon compared to the alternative. However, it is far from exempt from my criticism. I shouldn't have to say the above in a footnote when criticizing so as to not offend Americans. However, I will say that the US is most definitely extremely under-appreciated for its role as the dominant superpower. It does deserve the criticism, but deserves more praise and thanks IMO. A Soviet world sure would suck. Now, back to criticism!

Got out of most PC gaming in the mid-2000's, like most people I guess. I miss the tons of free mods, for sure. I remember reading on some Oblivion forums not long after it came out of a mod project by a ton of PC gamers who were trying to recreate Middle-Earth Lord of the Rings style. Have seen some of te stuff on Youtube but dont know if it ever fully came together. Been playing the Elder Scrolls series since Daggerfall. -
Me? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Xbox 360) - Multiplayer is just way too similar to all the other COD games, so I think I'm about done with this series. Plus for some reason I'm getting my butt whooped in this one compared to past COD's. One reason is that I've always loved claymore mines to guard my back, but in this game I can't use them until I'm level 50-something. Skate 2 (xbox 360) - sweet series
