  1. IMO early Canadian nationalism was anti-British. Nationalist independence efforts, for instance, came after WWI (Statute of Westminster) and WWII (Canadian citizenship, our flag) to remove Canada from the grip of the British Empire. I don't hate the US and I'm a Canadian nationalist and I don't define "Canadian" as having anything to do with "anti-US sentiment", only what is uniquely Canadian compared to the rest of international cultures. I know far more people born in India or China or Jamaica than America. What Americans or any other country thinks of Canada should be totally irrelevant.
  2. Will bush_cheney ever be able to define his existence by not hating on Canada? This is the pot calling the kettle.
  3. Trudeau has an approval rating lower than Trump's. When the choice is between mr. blackface and Andrew Scheer of Nazareth I guess voters flipped a coin.
  4. If you represent Canadians as the PM you could bother to swing by at least one of the parades, especially if all the other parties are. If you disagree with homosexuality you're a turd bigot and your religious beliefs shouldn't be a cover for it. In several Muslim countries homosexuals are put to death.
  5. Where did I say I support the Liberals? The Liberals are vile corrupt traitors. If there were an election today i'd likely vote CPC. That doesn't mean I like religious nutters.
  6. I never said that. I can't stand Trudeau.
  7. Parents should give their children healthy food to eat, instead of sugary processed garbage. Fruit is a healthy snack. Also, force them to play outside instead of spending too much time watching TV and playing video games. This includes not depending too much on using the TV as a babysitter.
  8. If their religious views are against supporting people celebrating being LGBT then their religious views are bigoted garbage. I don't want homophobic bigots as my PM. What you think about African aid is irrelevant. Our government gives foreign aid no matter what you think, and Harper, being the Christian nutjob that he is, apparently thinks Africans shouldn't wear condoms in order to prevent HIV and unwanted pregnancy. Anyone who thinks condoms are more evil than millions dying from HIV and children living in dire poverty is insane.
  9. Crap like Scheer and Harper refusing to march in the Pride parades, and Harper gov omitting birth control from foreign aid plans in Africa, which is one of their biggest problems if not biggest problem given HIV, birth rates, and single motherhood there.
  10. I would think that if you want to govern a country it would be smart to have policies and ideology that most Canadians agree with. I have a bunch of moderate and conservative views along with leftwing views but none of them have anything to do with the Bible. Most Canadians don't want Alberta's BS forced on them.
  11. I definitely did not read the budget, I just skimmed it.
  12. Westcan, I get all your sentiments, I'm just saying the timing is not good. You can say the same thing on Nov 10 or Nov 12. There's a time and place for everything. Veteran and defence issues are at the bottom of Trudeau's priorities for this country clearly. If you actually read the budgets this gov will dedicates 70 pages to gender (feminist) issues and 3 pages to veteran support issues. I mean literally the last budget I read it was 3 pages. People risk their lives for this country and then live the rest of their lives with mental and physical injuries, we can give them more than 3 pages.
  13. My experience with my province's healthcare system is routine disappointment. Not funding a public system adequately is a kind of human rights abuse.
  14. I don't think a Nov. 11 Remembrance Day ceremony is an appropriate time to hate on the PM. He isn't enacting any partisan policy during that ceremony, he's only living up to his duty as PM to honour our veterans and the fallen for their sacrifices as a representative of the government and all Canadians. As such, I think this thread is in poor taste.
  15. It was hard for me to watch the ceremony because what I assume was the 21 gun salute (by loud unannounced artillery fire) continually startled the people who were speaking at the event, and startled me watching from home. This doesn't bother me, what bothers me is that I'm sure there are many veterans both at the ceremony and watching at home who have PTSD and would be far more bothered by it. I don't think the 21 gun salute is an appropriate way to honour veterans, at least the ones who have seen action.
  16. It's not about integrity. First, Trump doesn't need the money. Second, he doesn't take orders from anyone, and doesn't seem to give a crap what anyone else thinks of his policies. Third, his policies are often the exact opposite of all the POTUS's before him, Republican or Democrat, as well as the Washington elite in Congress. Fourth, many people in his own party rallied against him leading up to his nomination and some have remained against him. Fifth, he hasn't spent a career in Washington owing political favours to every corporation under the sun to advance his political career, nor did he reach the POTUS by doing so. In fact, he insulted and PO'd much of his party and well-connected fellow candidates in the process. Trump's a lot of things, but he's no puppet. You can see all this, for example, in his foreign policy in the middle east. He certainly hasn't shown any indications that he's been doing favours to enrich the militarily industrial complex or big oil by starting or inflaming wars there.
  17. double-post.

  19. You deliberately edited what I said to make a point I never made by failing to include the rest of that sentence.
  20. Why would they rather have a Trump admin? They can't buy off Trump like they can Biden. I would assume more people having medical insurance would be good for the drug companies. People who can afford drugs are buying and taking more of them me thinks.
  21. WTF are you talking about? Canada has reserved doses from companies from all around the world, including companies in Canada. AstraZeneca is a UK company for instance. If a US company wins the race we don't owe them any favours or thank-yous because we'll be paying them ridiculous amounts of money to buy doses. It's a straight business transaction. If they don't want to give us any doses then whatever, we'll take our billions and give it to someone else. Are you that insecure about your own country that you keep up this pissing contest for decades?
  22. The idiots in the US who refuse to wear a mask while believing Trump's conspiracy BS aren't the same people in the US working on the vaccine. In order to be a scientist you actually have to believe in science and know a little bit about it.
  23. It will be interesting to see the % of Americans who choose to not get the vaccine, i'll bet it will be the highest in the OECD. I have a feeling cases and deaths in the US may continue long after the vaccine is out because of paranoid stupid people who refuse to get it. The only thing that will save them are the people who actually get the shot.
