  1. Obviously there will be economic hardship, at least in the short term. There's 1.3 billion people in India that I'm sure are willing to fasten together some plastic Walmart junk for Western companies. The thing is the West doesn't have to turn away from China forever, we just need to build leverage so that we have the power to set the terms. This is all about leverage. China is leveraging its power against us and other allies to make us bend to its will where it can. This is Machiavellian power politics and nothing else. Making plans to move tens of million of manufacturing jobs to India or slapping tariffs or banning goods (leverage) would certainly make them rethink their positions. Canada or the US or Australia or the UK etc should never be found in a position where they need to kiss the feet of the CCP. If the West were united in a trade and security bloc against China then the 2 Michaels would be home by dinner or else the CCP would suffer economic consequences from every Western government, and the same should happen if any of our allies are in the same position. We should not have merely bilateral relations with them, it should be multilateral: West vs China. And we can leverage other allies like India, South Korea, Japan etc while we're at it. China is certainly teaming up with Russia and Iran where it can against us.
  2. I guess we'll see. A lot of Canadians are low on China now, especially with the "two Michael's" stuff. We're not talking about virtue. We're talking pure power politics, national security, and a new Cold War. Masses of people won't boycott CHinese goods because of Uyghurs, but they'll do it if the CCP is an existential threat to their countries, which they're slowly becoming. Nazi Germany 2.0. Trump didn't rightfully ban Tik Tok and Hauwei for virtue or economics.
  3. So what are you saying? We shouldn't criticize the Chinese government? If somebody is racist towards Chinese people that's 100% on them and not my fault or anyone else's fault in any way whatsoever. Everyone is 100% responsible for their own actions. That's how the courts work, that's how real life works. The solution isn't to STFU so to not stir up the morons, the solution is to tell people not to be racist by illogically blaming all Asian westerners for the actions of jerkhole politicians in a far away country.
  4. A person can dislike the actions of the Chinese government and they have every right to, and can do so while also not hating Asian/Chinese people in general, and they have zero responsibility towards those that are racist. The general purpose of this thread isn't race-based and isn't racist in any way whatsoever.
  5. Our politicians have failed us, they sold us out long ago, and this is a result. The only ones who can fix things is the people, by pressuring our politicians, and by voting with your dollars. I have already been boycotting all electronics and software made by Chinese companies, and will probably extend by boycotts. Hauwei IT products are still allowed to be bought and sold in Canada LOL.

  7. The Western free world needs to unite as a bloc to counter China.
  8. CCP Nazis sanctioning Canadian MP's: https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/china-sanctions-conservative-mp-michael-chong-federal-subcommittee-1.5364957
  9. Hunting, gathering, and supermarkets.
  10. Hunting and gathering societies lived subsistently and therefore very poor, until advanced agriculture came along. But everyone is still free to hunt, and plant food on their property.
  11. Mega rich drug company CEO blames leftwing governments for lessening drug patents. Surprisingly does not blame himself, drug companies, or rightwing governments, or explain what exactly is wrong with patents in Canada. Meanwhile Canada has really cheap drugs and Americans flock here to buy them.
  12. What is the best system that you can possibly imagine?
  13. What came first was somebody finding or making something that somebody else wanted, and then that somebody else stole it via sneakery, lies, and/or violence. So then we made laws (rules) to govern behaviour, and courts to regulate whether rules were broken and decide punishment, and police to enforce them, and rule-makers to create all these things. So yes, we can change laws or make new laws or get rid of laws. So the question is, what changes should be made? And are there any unintended bad consequences that could occur via changes that have never been tried before, such as happened under communism and free-trade? Private property causes a lot of social problems. Poverty, theft, violence, fraud, corruption, greed, jealousy, anger, resentment, frustration, depression/anxiety, suicide. Eliminating private property would decrease or in some cases eliminate these problems. But as we saw in the USSR, China and elsewhere, eliminating private property and a market economy also causes other problems. Thanks buddy. I send tender kisses!
  14. Every single country has wealth redistribution, taxes, and government regulation on the economy, including the US and Canada. Countries only vary on the who, what, when, where, how. So if you want to "rethink the market economy", just re-arrange redistribution/taxes and regulation to get "more ideal" outcomes for whatever you're looking to achieve. A lack of government regulation is what led to Canada's inability to create vaccines because market efficiencies meant vaccine company facilities left. The only thing that would bring back facilities is if a company chose to build one due or government built one.
  15. Couldn't we say this is occurring now? Anyone is allowed to start a co-op. The problem is people don't because the people who do the legwork to organize the co-op would rather keep profits than share them. Well everyone is allowed to go to the library and educate themselves for free. Youtube and Google are also free. If you're talking about diploma education, well that would be an interesting idea. Encouraging people to go to school by making it free would probably make us smarter.
  16. If you found it first yes. But all the land on earth has been found and claimed. Private property has been around as long as animals. Squirrels fight over nuts. 40,000 years ago a human who found a fancy shiny rock would have others who wanted to steal it from him. Even indigenous had territory they defended and fought over, and still clam their own territory.
  17. Rethinkining could simply mean what it has always meant: government regulation to protect consumers and the environment etc, and different taxes or other measures to redistribute some of the wealth that the wealthy have to the non-wealthy. The problem with a non-market economy is that nobody has ever figured out how to do it in a way that is anywhere near as productive or efficient as a market economy.
  18. Who is more stupid, the Canadian public or the CPC for constantly shooting themselves in the foot?
  19. No: https://globalnews.ca/news/7708960/conservative-party-climate-change/ Though the party’s policy declaration already contains a lengthy section on that subject, 54 per cent of delegates voted against expanding it to include the sentence “we recognize that climate change is real. The Conservative Party is willing to act.” BACKWOODS RIFF-RAFF.
  20. The CPC membership just rejected climate change as being real. The only legit alternative to the Liberals is backwoods riff-raff. A world of captains, a ship of fools.
  21. Harper was past his expiration date, I wouldn't vote for him. But so was Chretien, and both these guys make our current party leaders look like geniuses even if they were both arrogant schmucks.
  22. Maher got cancel cultured before it was cool. Everything he says in that video is correct. I don't respect China's ethics, but I respect its resolve and effectiveness. It has mobilized 1.4 billion people and some of its diaspora towards the greatest nation-building project in human history in a quest to dominate the world, which it will. Maybe the West needs China to give us some hardship in order to avoid this spiral into decay we've been flowing into due to our decadence. I can't imagine the Chinese are giving their kids participation trophies. The only thing that makes anyone better at anything is overcoming hardship. A callus doesn't grow on your hands unless you work them. “Hard times create strong people, strong people create good times, good times create weak people, and weak people create hard times".
  23. You can hate the CCP without hating regular Chinese people, especially those living in North America. If you resent all asians because the CCP sucks well you're obviously a complete moron.
  24. There's no leadership in this country, only cowards and sheep and the mentally ill.
