  1. Lies. The only thing that lives in Hamilton is the smell of exhaust.
  2. Would you defend Canada and Canadian interests against all other countries, including the UK?
  3. Well since you're likely Russian or Chinese I hope you never visit Canada. Say hi to Jinping for me.
  4. Do you? You sure talk like it. How much do the misinformation farms pay these days?
  5. I can make decisions for myself. If you don't like this country you're free to leave. I assume you simply bite the hand that feeds. If I didn't like living with my parents I'd leave instead of complain
  6. I never said they weren't. Anyone who doesn't defend the best interests of this country is a traitor.
  7. I am a proud Canadian nationalist. I will defend my country from enemies foreign and domestic. Anyone who doesn't share this sentiment isn't worthy of calling themselves Canadian and should hand in their passport.
  8. I don't agree with the OP, but why does the CBC article say in big bold letters that "white folks have work to do"? If black people make up a disproportionate % of violent offenders, don't they have work to do also? Why doesn't anyone say that whenever a gang member shoots up a neighborhood, but people say that when a white person in another country shoots people? Why is there a racist double- standard where only white people can be called out on their nonsense? I also don't think entire racial groups should be called out at all, because this is racist. Neither "White people" nor "black people" have "work to do", only individuals who do or say things they shouldn't have work to do. I do agree with the OP that this article contains elements of divisive race-baiting, which should not be tolerated by our public broadcaster. "White people" did not shoot those people in Buffalo, a single nutty white person did. But the article is correct that we need to be concerned about hate crimes and racism towards and from different groups, including against black Canadians.
  9. That's a shameful statement by our PM. This is just race-baiting and a poor attempt at shaming in order to justify his emergency orders.
  10. You're correct. Asian incarceration rates may be disproportionately lower than other races because of other factors, and racism against them could still exist. What i'd like to know is why is this kind of logic is completely ignored when many people look at the fact that ie: blacks and indigenous people are disproportionately represented in our jails? Could other factors be involved? Such as behaviour? Economics? This is not to say our justice system isn't racist. It is to say, as you say, that a group being disproportionately represented is not in itself any kind of proof of that because other possible variables have not been considered and conclusions are being assumed rather than proven with evidence.
  11. Loves America and the constitution (at least 95% of it?)
  12. Watched most of the leaders debate. I was surprisingly most impressed with Pierre. *Shudder*. Patrick Brown is an idiot that wants to enforce a no-fly zone over Ukraine. Charest was meh.
  13. If I had parked my car on the bridge or in the middle of the street and refused to move I would have been immediately arrested and my car towed.
  14. The trucker blockades were still illegal and they should have all been arrested on the spot, just like every indigenous activist who blocks a railway.
  15. How terrible is it that people who want to own more than 1 home are helping to drive up housing costs for profit, therefore people with zero homes can't afford to own a home and have to rent from the former just to live? I can't believe the # of people with investment properties and basement apartments. The % of people who rent in Canada must be at all-time highs. Even a box in a wall (a condo) sells for not insignificant amounts.
  16. No housing costs what it does because demand is outstripping supply. Also have you seen the size of the lots of land houses are being built on now? Some barely have driveways.
  17. 1. Thanks! 2 & 3. I would never argue that the increases in immigration numbers are the sole cause. I think it's hard to pinpoint a firm cause because there are several variables affecting the cost of homes. What we do know is that price is largely determined by supply and demand. Immigration has increased by 50% since Trudeau came into office from a steady ~270k to now over 400k annually. I don't believe this even includes the temporary residents like students who come on study visa in significant numbers to study at our colleges, who will also need a place to live. And migrants tend to go to larger urban areas, adding more pressures in those areas, though working from home seems to be helping spread people out. This is all going to increase demand for housing, and therefore put an upward pressure on the price to one degree or another. There is also no point in "blaming immigrants" themselves, it's not their fault, it is a government policy issue at different levels. There are other issues affecting supply and demand though: -Foreign and domestic speculation, government red tape on building new units/zoning, low interest rates since 2008, temporary issues affecting building due to COVID etc. A major issue here is that Canada has the lowest number of housing units per capita among G7 countries, which makes no sense in a country with so much land, compared to ie: the UK/Europe. So despite the numbers you posted, demand is outstripping supply. We need to increase supply or lower demand, or both: https://financialpost.com/news/economy/ontario-alberta-and-manitoba-lead-the-provinces-in-canadas-chronic-housing-shortage-says-scotiabank
  18. It's not that different than what happened in 2008 in the US. It's not subprime lending, but overspeculation is indeed a house of cards and always has been. Homes are for people. Let's get some populism on this. But no, the rich elites always seem to get their way. Canadian banks and developers always seem to do so well.
