  1. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-trudeau-promises-to-address-high-rates-of-indigenous-incarceration/ We have a PM who wants to reduce the "over-representation" of indigenous people in our prisons and has automatically assumed, without providing any evidence whatsoever, that indigenous peoples in Canada are overrepresented because our justice system is racist. Maybe it is. Can we get some evidence on the scope of the problem before we start drawing conclusions so our PM can signal his virtue? If he wants to really fix the problem he should spend lots of money to educate them so they can get good jobs and not be stuck in generational poverty. The link between poverty and crime is clear. The last time the gov did this they sent them to residential schools, so they can't even do that right.
  2. You are presenting a false dichotomy. There's a happy middle between letting him rot in Gitmo and allowing him to fly around on Air Canada flights.
  3. Canadian law is soft, and so are the people who interpret it.
  4. This is why people should ignore most conservatives and progressives. They are largely ideologues and filled with nutters. People like Justin Trudeau and Pierre Poilievre are unfit to lead in this country. There is no rational common sense with these people. Trudeau is afraid to offend anyone and is too busy signaling his virtue to make any tough decisions while Pierre is doing whatever a Poilievre does.
  5. Who do you think lets him fly around on Canadian airplanes?
  6. There's a happy middle ground between being a soft progressive and being a conservative d-bag. Texas still has the death penalty and San Francisco lets thieves rob stores undisturbed in broad daylight. White racists gun down "suspicious blacks" in the streets while the city of Seattle lets residents illegally occupy a few square blocks downtown for a month (CHOP). Trump sticks illegal migrant kids in cages with tinfoil blankets and Canadian border agents help them with their luggage. I don't think its very hard to figure this out. People need to grow some balls while not being a d!cks.
  7. 1. Disagree. 2. How do you quantify "the criminal got a punishment that was fair relative the crime they committed"? "Fair" isn't quantifiable, it's completely subjective. Here's some stats: https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/rp-pr/csj-sjc/crime/rr01_1/p2_1.html Soft soft soft. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-supreme-court-rules-canadian-judges-have-been-too-soft-on-punishment/ https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2022/05/03/minister-flags-creative-plan-for-repeat-offenders-after-being-called-soft-on-crime.html
  8. Why is that? Everyone should be equally ticked off. Soft people won't be though.
  9. I defend my homeland against the crooks on Parliament Hill also. They are traitors who have sold Canadians out to the highest bidder, international and domestic, in the interests of the rich in this country. I'm not going to abandon my country because of a bunch of crooked politicians.
  10. 1. Soft parents raise soft children, soft children become soft adults, soft adults create a soft society, including a soft justice system. 2. What should be considered justice for a crime is not something proven by statistics. How long someone should be punished in prison for a murder is not based soley on statistics. Part of going to prison is to keep the public safe, part of it is rehab. But the definition of justice is literally someone getting what they deserve. If you commit a crime you should be punished, based on the severity of the crime. What is considered just or fair punishment for a crime is completely philosophical and subjective. 3. Agree. We have an ailing healthcare system and not much discussion about it.
  11. Oil is traded on a global market.
  12. 1. Whoa whoa I never said anything about participation trophies. Let's not get crazy here. 2. But things like that happen all the time. Russell Peterson got to keep his full military pension. Karla Homolka is a free woman and volunteering at a local school helping kids and is not a registered sex offender. She went to prison for raping and murdering 2 school girls and killing her own sister. Khadr is seen on video building and planting IED explosives trying to kill NATO forces and killed a US soldier and is flying around the country on Air Canada flights. Returning ISIS fighters are roaming free around Canada. https://www.narcity.com/disgraced-serial-killer-karla-homolka-is-roaming-free-in-canada-and-people-are-furious
  13. Economic globalization precedes the fall of the USSR. Reagan/Thatcher neoliberalism. Globalization is a process. Globalism is an ideology. International investors and transnational corporations should not be given priority to the detriment of Canadians. Justin Trudeau doesn't pay a mortgage. Neoliberals in the GOP and Democratic party helped create Trump.
  14. Ok, who is talking about hatred? If we base punishment on feeling so sorry for criminals we will also find ourselves in an unjust world. Poor Omar Khadr. Just a child soldier. A victim. Not allowed to fly on Canadian airplanes would be too cruel for him.
  15. It's logic based. Canadians are soft. There's a thousand policy examples to back that up. Canadian judges are soft, this has been going on for decades. Omar Khadr is allowed to fly on Canadian airplanes. He's on a no-fly list in the US. Nuff said. This is about emotion when people feel more sorry for criminals than their victims or public safety.
  16. Why is not being soft on terrible crimes hatred? I never said I want to punch anyone.
  17. Why do you assume this? Apparently you think harsh punishment for horrible crimes is vengeance?
  18. What's the difference between vengeance and punishment?
  19. 1. What nonsense. The international system is organized into nation-states. They are in constant competition with each other for limited resources. Until that changes you better choose your loyalty and choose wisely, because there's always people out there who will take everything from you if you let them. The world doesn't run on "globalism". There's 200 individual nation-states with borders, divided by culture/ethnicity/religion/nation etc, whether you like it or not. I didn't make the rules so don't blame me. If everyone was a "globalist" like yourself and bounced any time Canada was threatened or attacked there wouldn't be a Canada. Better brush up on your Mandarin. Let's bring Hauwei into our 5G networks, globalism FTW. 2. The US is not morally clean and I never said they were. But they also aren't attacking the interests of my country and my family on a daily basis either. 3. I don't want to fight anybody either. I'm not a violent person, but i'm not a coward either. If you think everyone in the world wants to be your friend and means you no harm you're the one that's idealistic and naive. 4. There's a big difference between a country and a nation and the crooked politicians who may run it. I'm not fan of Canadian politicians. At least you know who some of your enemies are. I also proudly pay higher gas prices due to Russian sanctions because anything that weakens the Putin regime is good for Canadian national interests.
  20. What is a "vengeance system"? If you murder someone you should be punished very severely. Nobody should feel sorry for you. Rehab them sure, get them some therapy. But they killed someone, they deserve to be locked up for a very long time. If you rape and kill 3 of my daughters you're scum and should never see the light of day again. People are always responsible for their choices.
  21. I'm sure if some jerk raped and murdered 3 of your daughters you'd be cool with them getting out in 25 years. Nobody is talking about the death penalty.
  22. The justice system has been soft for a long time. In the US they give you consecutive life sentences. We are a nation of wimps and losers and entitled brats who want the government to give them more goodies and look after them like mommy and daddy did when they were kids. A nation of Peter Pan's who have never grown up. Helicopter parents, shouting "yay good job!" when their kid does anything remotely not stupid. My street if filled with people who hardly ever cut their grass. It looks like a dump. Everyone is a victim, nobody takes responsibility for anything.
  23. True. The problem with housing is that with a lack of housing people will always try to bid up to what they can afford. If everyone in the middle-class made 100k more a year then we wouldn't get richer, housing prices and mortgages would just go up because everyone is still bidding against each other. This has already happened with the rise in dual income families and increase in women working over the last 40-50 years. Families aren't richer with 2 incomes, their mortgages are just higher. Household income increases are just going to the housing developers and the banks. If you're looking to invest i'd highly recommend buying stocks in Canadian banks.
  24. What are you afraid of? It's not going to make more kids gay. It's just telling kids who are gay that it's ok to be gay.
  25. 1. The Queen answers to Canadians, not the other way around. The Queen has no power to commit "a despicable act". We live in a democracy now, and a constitutional monarchy, no Canadian has to worry about taking "orders" from the Queen. As for why we don't do what the Americans do, the answer is we're Canadians, not Americans. This is our system, and it's been around for over a millennia, constantly evolving and improving. This is what I mean by "building". In the not so distant past people admired the monarchy more than it does now, so the system hangs on. It's all pomp and circumstance and elitist BS in my eyes, i just take it as the symbol it is. The Queen is about as relevant as a flag. Before you sign up to join a system you should learn how it operates. But that's equally Canada's fault, we hardly teach native Canadians or newcomers about our system. The Liberals are ashamed of it and our history. They're led by French Quebecois like Pierre Trudeau, his son, Chretien etc. who secretly and not-so-secretly despise the British crown and the British parts of our history, as many French-Canadians do (though not all). 2. The flourishing and free country you and I are fortunate enough to live in has been made possible largely by migrants and their kin helping build it into what it is today, with some help from the indigenous. If you don't want more buildings and highways then don't support more immigration to Canada. I meant "build" in all senses of the word, like laws, institutions etc. If "building a better Canada" to you means preserving the environment then that's great. 3. I can't speak for what my ancestors did, but I know of none of them that conquered aboriginal territory. As for the others, unfortunately all is fair in love and war. I don't support what happened with residential schools or many other things done to aboriginals, it's a travesty. I am 100% certain the people of your country of origin also have lots of blood on their hands. Nobody's perfect. The Mohawks would also be speaking German if not for my ancestors and others like them. History is not black and white morally. 4. Yours is an incredibly entitled attitude. You're free to hike the mountains and fish the rivers in peace, just as we all are, because my ancestors and others like them defended this country from Nazis and the like. Right now there are Canadians defending this country against the Russian and Chinese governments and anyone else who means us harm and who would slit our throats and take our land and resources if we they had the chance. You might want to show some gratitude and respect. Canadians respect you, we welcome migrants in with open arms more so than any other country in the world, including I assume your country of origin. Yes, respect is a 2-way street. Canadian citizens don't necessarily have to take up arms, they just have to bear faithful and allegiance. If you don't understand the verbal contract you're signing, don't sign it. If Canada ever has to go to war and you bounce, you probably won't be let back in and will have your passport ripped up because Canadians would finally wise up to the all of the entitled "Canadians of convenience" we have in our midst. I was nice to you and already extended an olive branch to you, welcoming to migrants just as most Canadians are. If you want to keep being an entitled and indignant brat you can go straight to hell. You're not free to fish the rivers today in peace because cowards like yourself ran to the hills when things got rough. And you are in no way a slave, but nice victim-complex. You came to Canada, applied for citizenship, and recited the legal oath by your own free will, and you're free to rescind your citizenship and bounce at any time. But you won't. You're one of the luckiest people on earth, and so am I. And if you want to live like aboriginals did 500 years ago and die of famine, disease, rape, or warfare you're free to do that too, sub-saharan Africa might be a good start. But you won't. Like most lefties you seem to live in fantasy-land, detached from the realities of this world, entitled yet full of shame while pointing fingers at all the evil oppressors that feed your victim-complex. Gimme a break. The next time you need medicine or go on the internet be sure to thank the evil oppressors who created it. 5. You don't have to embrace all aspects of the country, just uphold your oath. You're a part of a nation now, and legally obligated to bear faithful and true allegiance to its Queen and what she represents (Canada). https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/crown-canada/monarch.html
