Danny Williams has got big balls
noahbody replied to madmax's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Maybe you've just got a small chin. -
That's too funny. Scroll down the page and see your comments on abortion and capital punishment. Both of which Harper has stated many times are not his government's policy. Then there's his main agenda for killing off the Liberal party.

I believe Ignatieff is like Harper in some ways. Someone said he sees Canada as an intellectual project. Call it what you will but the coalition would be the smart guy in the class getting put in a group with the whiney dumb kid who thinks his iown deas are great and the guy who keeps trying to steal your pen. Harper's had this problem with the minority government, plus his group also had the class clown. Ignatieff won't be able to accomplish any of his goals in the coalition. Maybe the smart kids will want to work together and get an eh for Canada.

You mean like Jack abandoned his fight against $50 billion in corporate tax cuts to gain power? Or how Mr. Canadian Unity decided it was okay to get into bed with separatists in order to gain power? Ignatieff should do exactly what he said he'd do: listen to the budget because making a decision before that is irresponsible for any leader. Something Jack and Dion didn't do. Come to think of it, "Jack and Dion" could be the coalition's new theme song. "Oh, oh life goes on, long after the threat of the coalition is gone." I digress.

Gun Control Doesn't work...Never did, Never will!
noahbody replied to wulf42's topic in Political Philosophy
Did this happen during the day or at 2 a.m. I'd assume the latter. Not saying shooting off a rifle at any time of day is safe, but using the school bus for emotional response is a bit of a stretch. I'd be far more conerned with children getting killed by a stray bullet by gang members as they're doing their gun play in broad daylight. It's already happened. -
Khadr should make us ashamed to be Canadian
noahbody replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
"http://www.swissinfo.org/eng/index.html?si...y=1137126912000 You really should address him as Mister Harper. That would have made him look stupid, showing he didn't even know the age of Khadr when the event occurred. -

Maybe the judge had good reason not to allow it. I would be too quick to believe a lawyer looking for support through the media. We'll have to wait and see. -
Gun Control Doesn't work...Never did, Never will!
noahbody replied to wulf42's topic in Political Philosophy
Most people are against the long gun registry because it is a waste of money. Prison is a form of gun control. Therefore all lefties who are against prison are against gun control. The same type of people who want to get high all the the time and collect welfare. Aren't stereotypes wonderful? How about Harper giving tax credits for enrolling kids in sports/music? Wouldn't you say that is targeted at the root of the problem? There are many programs in canada that address this. What people on the left fail to realize is that all people are not the same. For some prison is the best answer. Back to the gun registry, they do. However you don't seem to mind. -
But not the senate.

Solutions To Ensure The Survival Of Canada
noahbody replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As far as the auto industry goes, what Canada and the US should do is make auto purchases tax exempt (i.e. GST or state tax in US) for 2009 only. This would provide an incentive for those who are in the position to buy to buy now. This would give the auto industry needed sales and more importantly help create a positive atmosphere around the economy. Governments should also accelerate the capital cost depreciation for new automobile purchases for a limited time. Consumer level incentives benefit the consumer, dealer, and manufacturer. Giving money to the top really isn't a stimulus at all. But that's likely what we'll end up doing as the opposition parties are demanding a package like other countries. Sigh. -
Gun Control Doesn't work...Never did, Never will!

We do have a fair bit of gun control in Canada compared to the US. The long gun registry is a total waste of money though. Stiff mandatory sentencing for people committing crimes while in possession of a gun would be the best form of gun control. It would enable cops to get gang members off the streets. Unfortunately, there won't be the political will to do this until a child gets killed by a stray bullet. -
Auto industry bailout plan dies in the Senate

The pay cut expectation is a fair demand, IMO. -

Somewhere around 11 million. -
The premier from each province could select a federal representative. Then the body would better represent and be accountable.

Odd comment. The only two PMs that have respected democracy in regard to appointing senators are Mulroney and Harper. Alberta has elected senators since 89. The Liberals ignored this democracy for 13 years of power, preferring to appoint whoever they pleased. 'Step down if an election occurs' is respecting democracy. Personally, I'd rather have him appoint them at this time instead of having them filled with NDPers courtesy of some back room coalition deal. Most NDPers are incapable of sober thought from what I've seen.

Maybe he's planning on appointing honourable people.

Bob Rae to end bid for Liberal leadership: CTV

Maybe he'll agree to get rid of the $1.95 per vote per year contribution. -
Bob Rae to end bid for Liberal leadership: CTV
noahbody replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Man, if they can't figure out how to run a simple fundraising campaign with such a strong appeal and the amount of free publicity the media has given them, how long will it take them to come up with a plan for the economy? -
He might also be saying, "Before you take away my toys to shut up those who are crying, you should know I don't have as many as I did a while ago."

Ignatieff to become Liberal leader Wednesday: report
noahbody replied to ThatGuy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
CTV isn't pro Harper, pro Dion or pro Layton. I'd characterize Graham Richardson, for one, as pro Liberal, anti-Harper. Fife is definitely not pro-Harper. I'd call him pro controversy. If they're cheering for anyone, it's Ignatieff. -
I really don't think Ontario Loyalist speaks for his province. And who's taking about separating? Quebec hasn't in recent years. There's really no separatist movement in Alberta either. The separatist party was off the radar until Dion promoted his Green Shift and now the Coalition government.

Ignatieff to become Liberal leader Wednesday: report
noahbody replied to ThatGuy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
My call is that he'll take up Harper's invite to contribute to the budget/stimulus package. He'll be able to claim the Liberals were able to improve the stimulus and support it. -
The Coalition needs a name

That's a good name. -
Dion to step down, reports say
noahbody replied to Pat Coghlan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He's a passionate, emotionally driven man. I don't think he has a rational bone in his body. Kyoto was never right for Canada or the environment. He thought it was good policy because it was doing what everyone else was doing. Same goes for the current situation. We must spend billions because everyone else is doing it.
