  1. It is just Harper... Tim Harper. Stephen Harper didn't label their actions "treason." He ran on a platform. Canadians voted for it. That's democracy. Are the NDP respecting democracy? No. Again, it's the NDP that's not respecting the wishes of the majority of Canadians. Everything from health care to education relies on the economy. When the pipeline goes though, it will create jobs in various sectors of the economy, not just the Oil and Gas Industry. Health care, education, social programs are what affect the largest number of Canadians. Sure it will help oil corporations (owned by shareholders who are average tax paying Canadians) too. Unfortunately, none of the things I mentioned can operate on warm fuzzy feelings.
  2. Has Megan Leslie taken a tour of the Oil Sands?
  3. That's like saying you love your wife, but if she puts on 5lbs she's out the door.
  4. Would you stop listening to it if they played commercials?
  5. If you live in a town, you get local news from the local paper (which also have websites) and by word of mouth/Facebook as well as rural radio in some areas. CBC has never been a station to turn to for local news.
  6. I can't think of any program that brings George Stombopolisilisopisoybislienpos into balance.
  7. How about a poll asking whether CBC radio should incorporate commercials to help offset its cost to the taxpayers?
  8. You actually believe reporters are turning down all expenses paid trips to Hawaii? It will be their employers who don't want to flip the bill for a Hawaii trip.
  9. http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/green/global-warming/111109/global-warming-be-irreversible-2017-warns-energy-agency I guess this means the 'if we don't act by 2012, we're doomed' prediction was wrong. We were less than two months away before had no reason to throw money at global warming. Luckily, there's been an extension. If the earth has been warmer and had higher levels of CO2 and that didn't prevent the earth from cooling, why is it now going to be irreversible in 2017?
  10. I don't have a problem with the concept of multiculturalism, but Canada has executed it poorly. "Civilized" is at the core of Canada's identity. We need to refine our immigration/refugee policies and change our laws to protect what we value. There is no way it should take 12 years to deport a known gang member like Jackie Tran, who isn't even a Canadian citizen, or the Khadr family.
  11. They should probably rename it to the Order of Juno. But really, it's not a surprise. We have celebrated mediocre TV for years and every week there's a Most Outstanding Canadian award given out in the CFL, a league that doesn't allow teams to fill it's roster with the best players available.
  12. They don't have the necessary data to draw that conclusion. Here's more relevant data suggesting it will be a burden. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Spending_on_health_care_per_capita_by_age_group.png
  13. The only conclusion I can come to is that the authors aren't very bright. Boomers will put an enormous strain on the health care system. Wait until they reach the age where they need long-term care.
  14. Yes, I was forced to quote one of two direct participants saying something that doesn't help her son's case. Depends what he said. If he said or did something that would turn his family against him, maybe.
  15. According to his mother, Omar pleaded with her in order to join the fight. He could've stayed with his mother, away from it all, but he wanted to be there. If I spend the time to dig up the interview with his mother, will it change your mind?
  16. He was allowed to volunteer as an interpreter at age 15.
  17. Who has the right to rehabilitate him? It's his religious beliefs. There are others who have expressed similar views to Omar Khadr in Canada. Can we insist he no longer have his views, while allowing others to continue to believe?
  18. His younger brother asked that very thing. But so do many adults. It's not a phase in life, it's religion. Many will never question it, because that's what religion is - blind faith.
  19. There are on average 12 homicides per year with registered long guns. So far, over a billion dollars has been spent on a problem that doesn't exist. Now you think we should build armories? And aren't you against spending money on prisons to keep people who use guns off the streets?
  20. Actually, Omar never attended training camps like his brothers did. Further, bringing up your children to believe that one day they should become soldiers of Allah isn't illegal. Teaching of religious beliefs is protected, not prosecuted in Canada nor in Pakistan where he was being raised and where he was enrolled in school at age 7. He had been back and forth between the two countries, but his mother was adamant the he be raised in Pakistan. As far as recruiting goes, he didn't attend training camps like his brothers. He wasn't recruited for a mission, he volunteered, which at 15 years of age was allowed until one month prior to his capture. The law was changed in May to prevent recruitment of anyone under 18 by non-state parties or guerrilla groups for any purpose. Since he was already in service at that time, I would argue no law was broken.
  21. a If Canada gives an apology, it should be to Chris Speer's family for Chretien getting daddy out of prison so he could kill some more along with his family. Giving suspected financiers of Al Qaeda millions is pretty idiotic don't you think? Canada didn't capture or detain him. Hell, we worn tourists that they might not get assistance if they go into an uncivilized part of the world. That's kinda what Omar did... no to mention, helping out the bad guys.

  23. The only problem I have with the beaver is that it reminds me of the Green Party.
  24. You kinda forgot the part about over 3,000 civilians, both American and Canadian, being murdered.
  25. To which offenses are you referring?
