  1. Click on the link. It's on the author's page.
  2. Here's a good one: https://www.facebook.com/#!/notes/liz-ferris/an-open-letter-to-my-generation/264143053613661
  3. I'm sure Al Gore didn't like it when his claims of ocean levels rising were confronted and proven wrong. All I did was point out an error made by WIP, politely. He was passionate. Like when you tried to clarify the use of a word the author never even used, again you're ranting without any knowledge. FYI, I've posted plenty on global warming. I just took a walk in the snow for a bit.
  4. Okay, global warming is not a main source. That was my point. Main meaning primary/chief/principal. Main not meaning "relating to." Thanks for clearing that up for yourself.
  5. With the CRTC and innovations such as satellite reception, it's hard to make an argument in favour of CBC's billion dollar deficit. It's time it was run like a business. For starters, allow advertising on CBC Radio.
  6. Sure, the more the better. Firstly, the report didn't use the word "primary." It was used by WIP. The report said, "The chief causes for extinctions at the moment are overfishing and habitat loss, but global warming is "increasingly adding to this," the report said." Global Warming was not named a chief/primary/principal cause. Not to be all assholely, but principal can refer to more than one. Thanks for clearing up what the reports intended meaning was for a word it didn't use. I appreciate your wisdom.
  7. "A" or "the" doesn't matter. The word that matters is "primary." They might consider global warming a secondary cause or a contributor, but they're very clear they don't consider it to be a primary cause. Hope that clears it up.
  8. I didn't say you said it was the only cause. You said it was a primary cause. It clearly states what they believese are the "chief" or primary causes. So yes, you're wrong.
  9. I used the part of the report to show you misrepresented what the report said. According to the report, global warming is not a primary cause, as you claimed.
  10. The report says the primary causes are over-fishing and habitat loss. The IPSO report was written on Dress Up Like Scientists Day at an activism convention. http://www.climate-resistance.org/2011/06/the-fishy-wishy-washy-ipso-report.html
  11. Separatism is dead in Quebec. Duceppe brought it up during the election and the Bloc got wiped out. It there ever is another referendum, it will be on a question of consequence not something vague and emotional based.
  12. Last I heard the bill allowed 199 plants in your backyard or closet, as long as it was for personal use. 200 and over would result in a mandatory sentence.

  14. I would fully support sentencing people of white collar crimes to work on road crews. But we'll never see the day. Like it or not, prisons are a necessity. If they build a few more, it should be seen as bennefiting prisoners. My own feeling is that we should be targeting gangs and gun crimes and make sure there's enough room to put those involved away for a long time. When innocent bystanders get shot in the middle of the day by gang members, it's time something was done. You didn't answer the question about you being a convict.
  15. A great deal of employment is generated by constructing and operating new prison. As far as the jobs of inmates, their positions will be filled by someone else if they're not self-employed. It sounds like your solution to overcrowding is to just to release prisoners even earlier. Is that right, or do you agree that we do need some new prisons to deal with the overcrowding. Also, are you currently or have you ever been a prisoner?
  16. Air Canada doesn't even serve 7UP. Their beverage contract is with Coke.
  17. How did a story about one baby become plural? Also, did you listen to the supposed witness's account? She says the mother was 7 years old. So, for this story to be true, she likely would have to had gotten pregnant at 6 years of age. You actually believe that?
  18. The problem with your argument is that it relies on the person being attacked being alone and isolated. If someone else at the campsite or a nearby campsite has a rifle, the adult of child being attacked could be saved. Not that it makes a difference, but they've recently discovered most black bear attacks are due to male bears and not mothers protecting their cubs as previously thought.
  19. If that is a fact, then your math is incorrect and the actual cost is a fraction of the $80,000,000 you claimed.
  20. Not to burst Joao's bubble, but the population growth/decline trends in Portugal likely contributed significantly. It went from a negative growth rate low point to a population spike between 1970 and 1975. http://www.google.com/publicdata?ds=wb-wdi&met_y=sp_pop_grow&idim=country:PRT&dl=en&hl=en&q=portugal+population+growth
  21. On a second impaired charge, the minimum sentence is 14 days. On a third it's 90 days. If people are serving 1/3 of their sentences, an average of 73 days of jail time would indicate more serious impaired charges such as Impaired Driving Causing Death are included in the statistic... ... so 73 days is a completely irrelevant stat.
  22. I'm saying it influences behavior. If you lived in a community where there was little risk that 'fear' might have little motivational power. If a pedophile moved next door, I'd expect the fear would significantly affect your behaviour. If the retribution is real and meaningful such as losing a hand in a mover or having one chopped off for stealing in a foreign country, it'll be effective.
  23. Do you just make this stuff up? Fear is a powerful motivator. There aren't too many parents who don't fear child abduction for example. This strongly influences behavior. Not only is there a fear of loss of a loved one, but fear of being seen as a bad parent. The problem with our society today is that no one is to blame. We believe that someone who'd made it to the 10th grade, isn't old enough to understand retribution, when that same kid likely never put a hand near the blades of a lawnmower as a young child, because of the fear of retribution.
  24. That's debatable. About 1 in every 5 murders in Canada is gang-related. If all kids can see is the upside of gang life (money, cars) it's only going to get worse. Not necessarily so. Some might gladly do 10 years to "end the bitch's life." Gangs look for trouble.
  25. But if they belonged to an established union they should've, in time, make a lot more than other gas jockeys? That's the problem with that argument. I'd say a Marketing Director at the Franklin Mint should make more because s/he can significantly impact the bottom line of the company. Should someone on the assembly line make more at RCM than at Franklin mind? I'd say "no." The managers in charge of hiring should be well paid at both though as well as the head of security. Franklin Mint does sell $3500 coins. Because the government needs to be responsible with taxpayer dollars for one. Secondly, private union wages for positions are generally higher than non-union wages, so paying significantly more than a private union has determined as "fair wage" for the job is stupid. Both have the responsibility to deliver. They don't have to make decisions that affect the bottom line. The problem is that the postal workers compensation is too far out of line. They start with 7 weeks of holidays. It's ridiculous. Your arguments are emotional... you're in love with unions and love is blind. It's called managing hard-darned taxpayers wisely, with respect.
