  1. The Bible should have absolutely nothing to do with anything geo-political. The Holocaust was used a a bat to get Israel created and has been used since to try and close down legitimate discourse on Israel's actions. This should NOT be. Zionist within Israel and external to Israel have been expropriating ALL Jewish voices, and then labelling those who disagree as being anti-semite. Not true! And that is why Jewsih voices around the world are standing up and saying NO. http://www.counterpunch.org/kunin02242007.html
  2. What democratic rights does it override? Of course they should, they were democratically elected by a majority government. The Charter of Rights have never been a issue for the majority of Canadians either. How is open to abuse when bounced off of the rights of others? How? Hate to tell you this Canada is made up of minorities so protecting minority rights is protecting ALL Canadians. There is NO democratic deficit created with our Charter. And NO existing Rights of Canadian citizens are being attacked. Just because you say so does not mean it is correct.
  3. Permanent residents (landed immigrants as you call them) cannot vote in elections and they cannot travel abroad with a Canadian passport. They are not Canadian citizens. We can and frequently do deny citizenship to people who have permanent resident status. In such circumstances, we usually deport such people. The people being held under a Security Certificate would normally be deported. CatchMe, are you suggesting that we should let anyone into Canada? How would you feel if an Argentinian or Chilean general (c. 1975) showed up? No, we do not usually deport people for just being landed immigrants, and not getting Canadian citizenship. http://www12.statcan.ca/english/census06/release/index.cfm There are about 2 million landed immigrants living in Canada, who are either getting citizenship, or remaining in country as landed immigrants or refugees. Refugees may get deported once their claims are found unworthy. Those who are granted permanent resident status can be landed immigrants until they die if they want. Canadian immigration When you are granted permanent resident status, you are entitled to ALL the rights and freedoms Canadians have. Correctly so. And we do not deport them once they have been granted "permanent resident status". Just imagine all those poor mennonites who would not have any rights at all now if this were not the case. This is also the case for refugees until their claims are proven either correct or incorrect. When proven not to be correct, they are deported back to country of origin. xenophobia appears to be the motivator with those who are supporting the loss of individual human rights. That they think everyone should lose individual rights because of their xenophobia, is wrong.
  4. That is a strawman argument, 6 billion people are not in Canada as landed immigrants. When you are a landed immigrant, all Canadian Rights apply it would be ludicrous for it to be otherwise! That is why they were struck down, and the other 2 sun set clauses would target Canadian citizens as well.
  5. Bill Gates had an excellent interview with Evan Solomon today on Sunday, it should be on Newsworld again this eve for those who missed it. Bill really goes into where the funding for this is going. Condoms break geoffery, and the 1000 figure is in one of the links I posted actually. And I thought it may be higher, it seems people are using the universal precautions strigently. SAR in Canada IS NOT completely volunteer. Oh so you do not want your rights to acess the back woods restricted but you are in favour of restricting others rights in other areas heh? Ascribing morality to sex is heinous. It is even more heinous to say; "your rsiky behaviour put you in this place suck it up and stop whining."
  6. Steve is behaving a good deal like the Bush/Karl Rove administration. Funny, they just do not get that Canadians are not Americans when they try these heinous things.
  7. Nice try geoffery but no cigar, you are trying to compare oranges and apples. The anti-terrorism act, is not just these 2 sun set clauses. The constitutionality of them was always in question which is why they were sun set. The Liberals should never have rushed forward following in the hysteria of the Bush administration in the first place, but at least they were clear thinking enough to sun set them. Again personal individual rights must come before national security, there is NO question.
  8. The USA invaded Iraq remember on the false allegations of WMD's The current adminsitration has proven to be incompetant in terms of international relations, because it is a puppet of another administration that has proven itself incompetent in international relations.
  9. Let's just to the chase here, what rights and freedoms do you feel need to be re-ratified?? What rights need changing?
  10. Business owners who do not pay employees what they are worth will not stay in business very long. Exactly my point, and the very vast majority fail to see this truth, that is why min wage laws protect both workers and businesses
  11. Jewish Opposition to Israeli Human Rights Crimes is Growing Criticizing Israel is Not an Act of Bigotry By JASON KUNIN http://www.counterpunch.org/kunin02242007.html
  12. The RCMP have always had to wait and give time when a warrant is being executed. This is not TV where they knock and smash in. The grow op was not going anywhere, it would have still been had they followed due process, this is about DUE PROCESS. The storyy about the knife is more than a red herring, the police will NOT go into an armed situation no matter if they know people are dying, that is why there are hostage situations. Remember Maythorpe? officers down and they would still not go in until they were sure the shooter was down. Human Rights are not to be suspended just because some one wants to for this occasion or that occasion. That is the point, and how some fail to see this is beyond comprehension. You take away individual rights you take away individual security and you by extension take away national security.
  13. Facts: A businesses single most important asset is its employees, whether the it is a 1 employee place or a 50 employee place or more. Even if the owner and single employee of the business, it is it's most important asset. Many business owners fail to realize this. Many business owners fail to see that it is the employees who make the business and the the ensuing profits, or lack thereof. Because many business owners fail to see the worth of their employees and pay accordingly, rules and regulations have been implimented to protect the employees, and in actual fact the business owner as well.
  14. You have got it backwards marcinmoka in actual fact. Individual rights must come befoe national security rights. If you have NO Rights as an individual, you have no security as an individual, Therefore, if an individual Canadian does not have individual security, there can be NO national security in truth. The Nation is made up of individual Canadians with out individual Canadians there is NO Canada, The first premise of a democratic country is upon the individual, not the nation. Therefore, individual rRghts must come before anything else. When individual Rights are guaranteed, then security of the nation can be addressed, within those individual rights that are now collective Canadian rights guaranteed.
  15. A military at war with peacekeeping Canadian forces want more than just to keep the peace James Travers National Affairs Columnist http://www.thestar.com/columnists/article/185216

  17. Well, isn't that just the pot calling the kettle black. Only in this case, Iraqis really are the victims.
  18. By Catchme's standards the Liberals should be held to account for not completely eliminating the GST after 1993, ect. ect.. That's all they should do, only what was in the Red Book, NOTHING else. Remember, the only government that has EVER had a majority of popular support since the 50's was Mulroney's 1988 government. Chretien had majorities on only 1 or 2% more popular support than Harper, yet apparently he has a mandate, and Harper doesn't. Ummm, its called a majority government, and the Liberal party had the majority popularity. Our government, is not based on personal popularity in the riding of the leader to denote approval or mandate for the leader. Even though CPC and their supporters, would love for us to have US style single figure at the helm, that is not what we have. Harper is onmly the leader of the party in power, he was not elected PM.
  19. Ah, it is good to see someone on the right actually, acknowledges the fact that Harper and the CPC have no mandate to do anything other than their 5 points. They know they cannot use the notwithstanding clause as a minority, but yet they are scurrying around doing other things they have NO mandate to do either. Those who approve of; 1. holding people without telling them what they were charged with, without anyone knowing what they are charged with, 2. the notion those held, are supposed to testify "against" themselves to prove that the government has a good reason to hold them without due process, 3. when they cannot prove to the government, that the government has reason to hold them, they can be held in contempt until they do provide something to prove they have done what the government is saying they did, 4. the fact this expectation to prove the government is right, even though those held do not know what the government is saying they did to get arrested, is a good thing. 5. actions like this that have only been done in dictatorships. This is not democracy in action, if it can be done to some, it can be done to ALL.
  20. What does that mean? Harper and the CPC have a slim minority government. They campaigned on 5 points, none of which have been fulfilled. But yet they are off tinkering with National security and the judicial system. Do you think they would have gotten even a slim minority if they would've have campaigned on what they are doing? Answer would be NO. They have absolutely no mandate from Canadians, to do these things and they know so. Which is why they are trying to slither around having to make legislative changes as they know it would never pass through the house. So they are twisting or ignoring legistlation that is in place.
  21. It's a very beneficial relationship - Harper gets his own private militia in the police and the military and they get their own private PM and benefactor. They lie and leak in his favour and he gives them more powers and funding. Nevermind that this is clearly against the interests of the Canadian public, who also gets to pay for it all. Yes, but one wonders really why Harper is focused on crime and terror. Crime rates have been going down for years. Canadians are not overly concerned with a terror attack upon, albeit that pot was trying to be stirred with the tar sands pipeline hype. Though Canadians are more concerned now than they were before Canada started the mess in Afghanistan. *angusreid has a poll about this just go to the main site and chose terroriasm from the menu on the left. This is a serious situation, information was leaked on Weds, that just on Monday the Harper government had said they could not give to the Judge in the Air India Inquiry, for reasons of national security. Someone leaked that to try and smear the Liberals and indeed the rest of the opposition. It was done in such a manner as to deflect away from another question, of an equally serious nature and that is muzzling judges and wanting to control the judiciary. Yesterday, in contrary to the Supreme Court ruling that security certificates were unconstitutional and could not be done, the CPC they were keeping them in place. So, now we have a government ignoring Supreme Court rulings. It would appear that they are going to ignore Supreme Court rulings until they have it stacked enough to do what they want. This is a serious eroding of both due process and human rights. Say nothing of what the leakage against national security just to play politics means.
  22. Harper is tampering with the judicial system, something which he has NO MANDATE to do, and in the face of the fact that the majority of canadians think the Supreme going is doing just fine. In fact, more so than they think any leader of political parties is doing. Considering this, Harper's heinous actions in trying to stack it, do not bode well for him. Angus Reid
  23. No, do not think it was a joke, the audience was shocked. So it was set in a tone of seriousness when said. The snip that you put forward to try to support your contention is a red herring. But even more telling regarding that snip and what it says, is Harper's lack of respect and true feelings were exposed. Harper went with wife to a chick flick on Valentine's Day. What were the other party leaders doing? I just betcha, Arar believes the "NEW" government will do its best, Harper would not even attend a dinner where "his letter" was being presented as special tribute. It seems, the only portions of the "New" government, that are willing to do anything positive, and supportive, in regards to "Muslims" and how they are negatively and wrongly they are being treated, is the opposition, and of course Emmerson.
  24. Oh my, the surge is on, both in Iraq and here in Canada. Well, actually not in either place. Both are stalled because of sane public opinion. Truthfully, Harper and his government are going no where, with the Canadian public. And MORE importantly, not even in Alberta. Now how telling is that? The PQ attack ads have apparently NOT worked. So, the CPC fortunes are falling in AB, they can't get anywhere in PQ, they are set to lose seats in BC, and Atlantic Canada, and the Liberals are still leading the CPC in Ontario, despite the not so brilliant attack ads. And how funny is that, the CPC are supposed to have gone up 3 in ON, while Liberals are down 3, and 3.1 is the margin of error? No doubt the 3.1 % margin of error, plays into the 2 point lead over the Liberals, and the Green jump as well. The Greens only got 3% of the vote in recent by elections, so it is doubtful they have jumped anywhere, and now that May has called Canadians stupid, that 3% may just be going to dim further.
