Lol, nope, no skeletons in my closet, my family both sides has been here since the mid 1600's. Can't really get anymore "Canadian" than I, I suspect. Unless of course, if you're my daughter or granddaughter. Or another close family member, or part of the same group fleeing from European or British tyranny. But that does not prevent me from understanding what comes first, personal liberty and freedom. Nor am I, as a WASP, being xenophobic, nor being intellectually dishonest like some here about why they are advocating a holocaust in the ME, or why we should give away our personal freedoms because of their alleged fear. First they came for.....

possible solution sounds much like Hitler's final solution eh? So, really you are saying that that we should just wipe out all of the ME; Israel, Iran, Irag Afghanistan, Ubekistan, Kazikstan, Turkey, Pakistan, India, Algeria, Syria, Saudi Arabia Qatar, Oman, Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon, Tijikistan, Turkmenistan, Kuwait, Kyrgyztan, plus a few more incidental little countries? wow, that's quite the holocaust you are advocating. Nice to know what Harper and his supporters are advocating! It was done in WW2 in Japan as the lesser of two evils debated in another thread. I'm not advocating it personally, I'm posting a question. No it was NOT done in Japan, it was 2 cities, not about 2 billion + people, and do you not realize what that kinda of nuking would do to the whole world? Only the truly xenophobic would even contemplate such a thing!!!!

NDP proposes Federal Minimum Wage - $10.00

The question is how much profit isn't it? you think Wal Mart will pull out? Or Maconalds? Or how about Tim Horton's? greed 1 of the seven deadly sins. -
That is disengenuous and Britian has done similar, to what is above, google the Macdonald incident security England. The top priority of citizens protections is rights, they were very clear on the fact that rights and due process had to be protected first and foremost, before safety hence their ruling and types of changes that could be made, that MIGHT meet Charter litmus. But you see if we have the government choosing councillors and judges, as Harper wants, how are we guaranteed absolute unbias and forthright actions by our government? Answer we can't be.

Wow, thanks for that, I really had no idea, and in this case I agree, they should NOT be allowed Canadian citizenship. If they are in Canada under a tourist visa, or students visa and already pregnant, upon arrival, no way should their children get citizenship. The loop hole should indeed be closed

Suddenly PM Harper Cares About Aids
Catchme replied to imatitlover's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Eating is so hit and miss, every person is different, how can you gauge it? People 80 yrs. ago ate like horses and were much healthier than now. Go after the companies making us eat this crap. Every person eats. It's so much easier to practice safe sex/abstain than eat. At what point do these diseases your talking about come into affect? With AIDS its so much easier to cap. No it is not easier to cap, nor is there any need for any caps, if there are no caps on equally expensive, if not more, diseases that ARE actually self inflicted and NOT given to someone else, by someone else, there will be NO caps anywhere. How dare you want to caps on where you believe there should be morality ascribing to regulate/cap things. No it is not easier to practise abstain than it is from eating things that are bad. Or we would not be having millions with type 2 diabetes, or pancreatitis, or heart disease, or suffer from strokes, or gout. Again you want to punish for what you feel are breaches in morlaity, and how dare you, there should never be morality ascribed to sexual acts any more than any other bodily action. sally is corrrect regarding the RC's furthering the spread of AIDS. Not only that take a look at STD rates in the youth of the Chrsitian right in the USA, they are sky rocketing, and see where preaching abstinence and no condom use gets you. -
Is it time for our charter to be re-ratified

So what are you saying some Canadians are more Canadian than others? My grandmother immigrated from Germany into Canada in 1876. The rest is history. My ancestors, both sides, predate your grandmothers by a couple of hundred years +. Having said that, those immigrants who entered into Canada, after the Treaties were ratified and recompense contracts were entered into with FN's and Quebecers were given the right to retain language and religion, have NO say in this day and age. Which was the point I was making. Moreover, those that came to Canada to live in enclaves and have kept themselves apart have now no say either IMV. -

No talking reckless eating is not just obesity, at all. type 2 diabetes is preventable and skinny people get it, too much simple carbohydrates, sugars, alcohol etc then we have other pancreatic disorders from the same things and alcohol. gout and heart disease from eating too much red meat can hit the skinny person just as hard heart disease and stroke from eating too much fat and trans fat, hits skinny people just as it does obese, in fact more so as skinny people tend to store fat internally. Then of course there is eating and drinking all the other things that case harm. It seems some think they are perfect specimens and never do any thing by accident or unknowingly eat things for years that harm their bodies. If that was the case they would all be living 120 year + bottom line is your argument is inconsistent, and you really would like to target sexually related diseases as being less worthy to be funded. hence why I say you are ascribing issues of morality where there should be none. -
Russia is taking action against the USA and Israel, as is China, in regards to them wanting to bomb Iran and everything else in the middle east. http://www.ericmargolis.com/

Is it time for our charter to be re-ratified
Catchme replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What legitimate document exist outside of course the Charter, states that the founding nations have legitimate claim to Canada? Founding nations of course, is a political invention and was NEVER ratified by CANADIANS. But the sad reality of life is that 'life is NOT fair' and never has been. It is usually those with white privilege that say life is not fair to bad, too. And it seems they want to keep it that way even though they have no right to. It seems you are forgetting Treaties signed that have never been adhered to, agreements made for compensation that have never been adhered to, and indeed there was agreements with Quebecers to keep their language and religion long ago. And they were ratified by founding Canadians leafless. Study Canadian history a bit, it may help you a bit to realize who actually helped create this country, and probably more so than your ancestors ever did. How many generation Canadian are you leafless? -

What I and others are saying is that you cannot have some "health " covered and not others. It is a slippery slope none of us should go down. As you said...nice try. so what's wrong with not subsidizing someone who contracts AIDS through reckless sex? because you are not ascribing equality of action to it you are ascribing a morality of action upon it. Then let's not fund those who get diabetes, or heart/stroke disease, or gout, or liver failure, or pancreas failure, all of which come from/through reckless eating. Then let's not fund injuries caused from reckless sports enthusiasts Then let's not fund those in accidents while driving during peak commute hours it is reckless after all. Then let's stop funding health care for home accidents, as really they are the highest cost to medicare and the leading cause of accidental death and everyone in society is well educated about home dangers, so they should not be happening. -
NDP proposes Federal Minimum Wage - $10.00
Catchme replied to ClearWest's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
More income spent in communities which benefits all. From housing, social safety net improvement, the purchasing of products and increasing consumer speading in all sectors. Brings single parent families who have the working parent making min wage out of poverty. Thereby cutting subsidies from the government and decresing the need to rely upon charities food banks etc.. Targets those transnationals who take excessive profits out of Canada who pay min wage levels to increase their profit of margin. Thereby keeping more Canadian dollars in Canada. Those who say the prices will increase to to accomodate this increase, provide proof that it would and show how much prices would increase if a min wage was made to 10/hr? -

Oh so it is xenophobia that is at play then? There are differences amongst both of the other founding groups of Canada, that are addressed in the Charter, it does not make them more equal, or indeed afford an opportunity for them to have a "coup" of Canada. In fact, both groups could say portions of the Charter favour white anglo saxon protestants. Its a 3 way split amongst the founder cultrues of Canada, and that is how it should be. Just because you wild imaginings take you down this fear driven path does not make it so. Funny, eh, how the bully never wants others to over come man made deficiencies that make them vulnerable to bullies of the dominant privileged class. -
It seems the USA government, as opposed to looking for Al Qaeda and Osma, are actually covertly funding them again. Nice they just never learn from their mistakes, unless of course they were not mistakes at all. This begs then, the questions going all the way back to 911, the invasion of Afghanistan, Iraq and now seemingly Iran. http://thinkprogress.org/2007/02/25/hersh-qaeda Now this playing out with Iran and the false and lying targeting of Iran. The original Hersh article is very lengthy and very detailed but well worth the read should anyone want to gain factual insight into what is going on with ALL the players, and why they are playing. At least on the surface of why they are playing. http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/arti...ct_hersh?page=1 In the meantime, Israel has garnered air fly over space approval from all but Turkey.

If you fail to see why there were 2 inclusions regarding PQ and First Nations, then no one can help you. To suggest democratic deficit on these 2 items is at best short sighted, at worst xenophobic. -
yes, and they are correct as recent history has born out!
-
Yes actually geoffery you do know that there are riding that are in contention between the CPC and the NDP. Not all CPC are social conservatives, though hopefully that will change. As one would hope that the non-socially conservative will go park thier vote somewhere else as opposed to those who want to destroy Canada.

Hey lets not stop there . Lets us expand your right to bitch. Backwoods rescues drunk driving suicide victims skydiving mountain climbing snowmobiling toboganning trans fat eaters too much sugar eaters too much alcohol drinkers too much red meat eaters the list could go on and on yet some people like to feel their addiction and actions of choice are superior to others. It seems to be more of a case of low self esteem in regards to those who want into the bedrooms of others so they can feel superior. They are being intellectually dishonest with themselves because: There should be no more morality ascribed to sex/addictions than anything thing else listed. In the case of pedeophilia or other sex crimes. Then it is not morality either but a crime. -
While not a fan of meth labs, I would ask what is the difference with the chances of kids playing their toxic refuse as opposed to all those business that dump toxins wherever without a permit either? There is a good deal more of that going around than meth labs dumps. Due process is fundamental to LAW! And to RIGHTS! Why you want to get rid of due process is beyond me! Again though you all carry on and on about crime, it is in fact decreasing and has been for years. Legalize marijuanna, the problem with grow ops go away! leaving more time for the RCMP/police to target other crimes such a meth labs and illegal toxic dumping by business and meth labs..

NDP proposes Federal Minimum Wage - $10.00
Catchme replied to ClearWest's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of course there is justification for increasing min wage. All that nonsense rhetoric about trade barriers and working at macdonalds needs a low wage is just that, nonsense. -
Unless they have babies while waiting. This is the one big area we need to address... people born in Canada shouldn't get automatic citizenship. It gives refugees a fast track ticket to citizenship. Birth tours will soon become a larger issue too... for reasons from 'a better life of my kids' to 'avoiding paying international tuition fees.' Of course people born in Canada should get automatic citizenship. What are you thinking? and your statement regarding birth tours has no basis in fact whatsoever!

Catchme replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
discussing American foreign policies and trade is much different than telling them they should change their Declaration of Independance and all amendments to it. -
I have a personal individual right to security of person, and if the government can't live up to that obligation and the courts infringe upon it, it's time that we look at this from another direction. Elect a majority government that will protect our security, or deal with such issues as society apart from the government... though that's never really been successful in Canada. Our security is not in question and neither of those 2 clauses will secure it any further than it is However with those 2 clauses, will in fact, diminish down to NOTHING our individual security. Just because someone is perhaps overly fearful, or xenophobic, does not mean their feelings about their personal security have a right to override ALL Canadians rights and freedoms. Hiti's quote is spot on! "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety," said Ben Franklin more than 200 years ago, and his words ring true today.

why would anything you say be pertinent to anything, remember you are an American from New York. Our Charter is really none of your business. I am sure if we all of sudden started telling the USA, or indeed Israel, that they had to change their Human Rights charter you would dismiss it PDQ.
