  1. Yes, it is deliberate US monetary policy and our dollar is high because of a deliberate subsidization of the oil sector and driving up our currency accordingly. The US could change monetary policy in the next 10 years, but I doubt it, they need a low dollar like Canada could use one. Is the Canadian Dollar worthy to be above the US based on anything other then speculation..? Oil and the Dollar seem to go hand in hand, and we see speculators driving up the price, beyond what is reasonable and it will come down. This does not create the stabilty manufacturing prefers regardless of the price of the dollar. It is why many contracts fix the price regardless of change over a set period. Yes hedging for and against the market, but eventually the overall trend will prevail and the sector will leave.
  2. I disagree. I believe that he holds an opinion that is supported by many economists. On another note, the country isn't an one trick Oil Pony but highly diverse. For 1/3 to be affected by a high dollar is significant and the report goes as high as 40& and that is across the country. Therefore a healthy debate is not a bad thing. You don't have to agree with Mulcair, you can have your own opinion but you can't have your own facts. What is interesting is that other politicians want to make this a "East/West affair... but its more likely an affair of whom is beholden to various interests. My guess is that BC won't be saying the word "goofy" for much longer... as that bunch of Free Enterprise LibraCons are getting tossed. If the Industry is not paying its own freight and the government and public will be footing the bill when the damage is done, there is nothing wrong with considering the real costs of extracting oil from the tar sands. Canada has always had these sands available, its not always optimum conditions to develop them since the 70s there have been many false starts. But now that we are gung ho on this.... its time for an analysis of what is being done and who is paying for it and who is benefiting and who is getting negatively affected. That is standard fare...
  3. Erm... read that again, I have them finish 3000 back...with my stab in the dark
  4. I fully agree.
  5. Price is established by what the consumer is willing to pay. A Vehicle made in Mexico and one made in Germany are both sold in Canada for the Same price. However to follow your argument to its ultimate train wreck would result in deflation like the dirty 30s where practically everything was givin away as people had no money and no one could make money. What ultimately has to give is the number of new homes or financing of new homes or price of new homes to accomodate the division of the middle class. Regardless, anyone involved in Manufacturing knows that Canada received an artificial benefit from the dollar being lower then its US counterpart. Not all companies rely on the dollar being lower, depending on how they have priced their products. The question is, is the dollar now artificially higher?
  6. HOLY FRIGGIN TORO KAKA As little as 6 years ago, my friends business had just under 1,000 Design Engineers and Techs. Today he has 2, himself and his original business partner. Most clients have been retained. Work is offshored with Cheap Engineers from India and China and other parts of Asia, where the manufacturing work has been relocated to multiple plant operations to try to protect from product and intellectual property cloning. The clients lost have returned to R&D in the US. ATS also gutted vast numbers of design and skilled trades and offshored their work, alot going to North Korea, for Canadian Contracts in Nuclear, Solar and Oil
  7. I would actually feel comfortable paying Argus to do a study. I don't have to like what he says, but I do know that he works with facts.
  8. It could be and it is, along with ruinous Trade Agreements signed by our Federal Governments along with the abandonment of an economic policy for manufacturing. Regardless, even 25% of lost jobs across Canada is significant, so while there is a job gain from subsidizing the oil fields to ship raw product offshore, there is a net loss in Manufacturing Jobs. Once upon a time the Conservatives were Conservative and Not Liberal. Since 1988 the Conservative and Liberal Economic policy has been the same.
  9. The question is do the cuts need to be made, and are they being applied evenly or is the rural areas getting the brunt of the cuts. I have seen this in every government across Canada.
  10. I thought that the PCs sold off Nova Scotia Power... If that is true, its a private company and of course your rates will go up.. it goes up everywhere there is privatization of power. I thought Dexter referred to himself as a Conservative Progressive in the NDP. Basically, My understanding is the previous PCs were so corrupt they had to go. My guess is that Dexter can govern like an austerity Premier and do what he believe has to be done. I don't have to agree with him, but what choice is their in NS? It could be worse...
  11. My Prediction Conservatives will retain the seat in a By Election Liberals will come up short NDP will unlikely be competitive based on previous results, this is a CPC/LPC swing riding.. Voter Turnout will be 16,000 CON,13000, Lib, 4000 NDP... Finally I could be 100% wrong...
  12. I agree... the Secret Ballot is a necessity.
  13. Theres always a bad idea or two in a thread... That said, I find it interesting that Conservatives supporters are really on the defensive when they should be wanting the truth. They should be demanding how their records ended up in the hands of Pierre Poutine. They should be demanding answers on how their Passcode to use RackNine was given to Pierre Pountine. They should be demanding answers on WHY Racknine would accept monies for robocalls from Pierre Jones. They should be demanding answers why the payment for Robocalls do NOT show up in the Election Expenses. This is a Major Infraction. It shows someone trying to hide somethimg.
  14. LMAO, the people who do this work, work anywheres from 3 days to 2 weeks. And for some its just work for one day....Good luck with that... I agree with the comment in the paper...these are similar to voting irregularities that happen at every polling station in Canada. I have seen polls where the Conservatives didn't receive a single vote but know this to be an absurd outcome of a poll, however no complaints are made cause the outcome would not be affected and it wasn't direct manipulation more then a clerical error after the return is made.... However, with these papers being of question and the result being in question this will mark the first time in over 20 years a court has ordered an election. Its likely the outcome will be the same... but who knows... it may flip Lib again.. Certainly....I am sure we will see Pierre Poutine and his coherts in the shiny new prisons once the charges are laid and a conviction results... Unfortuneately, when people like Diane Finleys husband are involved and guiltly... there is a small fine, but no prison , instead its an nice senate seat for a job well done.
  15. Didn't work for my friend either and he had one on each finger.
  16. worked for the americans against king charles III.
  17. You are correct.. and in my recent discoveries... I found out something interesting. Many many many many of the people working in Polling Stations actually help political parties and are of more help on the inside. It is not unusual to have a booth manned by two conservatives or two Liberals. Same with the returning officers. These people are supposed to be non partisan , but often they are very partizan and while the vast majority are HONEST, there are always a few bad apples. So in this case...its either incompetence or bad apples. I used to think these paid volunteers had no bias, then I discovered that more tend to show up for the work instead of being a scrutineer. And they people hiring often are of a political background who put it aside for the period of their involvement with EC.
  18. What do YOU know about insurance you greedy bastard ... I mean friendly agent.. When it comes to insurance you are the last guy I debate... cause it always turns out so bad for me..
  19. If you work a minimum wage job you pay taxes. If you work a seasonal job you pay taxes. If you work you pay taxes. Some employees pay into EI. Regardless, you wish to ignore the fact that the Federal government wants to MASSIVELY INCREASE THE NUMBER OF FOREIGN WORKERS TO WORK FULL TIME IN CANADA in the OIL PATCH. The very place were many people from Newfoundland go each year to work. Once these Foreigners arrive, and theres lots already, the work for those Canadians who migrate west will dry up rapidly.
  20. The ones who "Gamed" the system was the Federal Government. The ones responsible for diverting the $56BIllion Surplus. Once teh coffers were bare and heading into the recession, Deficit Flaherty had NOTHING left for EI but to borrow....monies and divert $10 of billions more to the banks. The ones who gamed the system, Reduced the % from 65% TO 55% Put a Ceiling on the yearly rate. Increased the Length of Time required to collect Decreased the # of weeks Eligible to collect. And this was under Chretien...the Martin... the Harper... EI is not the government, but it the government has laid claim to its monies. The Conservatives can play politics with EI all they want, but we really know, this is not about EI , its about bringing in the Foreign Workers..... and those are the "Seasonal" people workinging in your resort hotels... and even the Tim Hortons Children Camps. They work for a few hundred bucks a month....
  21. The latest Ipsos poll: Canada: CPC 37%, NDP 35%, Libs 19% http://www.globalnews.ca/federal+liberals+losing+support+as+ndp+tories+battle+for+top+spot+poll/6442640892/story.html?utm_source=facebook-twitter&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=community
  22. Ironically you ticked off the Left, the Center Left, The Centre, the Centre Right and the Right all in one post... Thats a nice tar brush you have. The video stunk btw. And I am sure there are some here who will be amused by the list you accuse as a Right Wing apologist.... that makes my day.
  23. I am just learning about this type of police action. It has nothing to do with Harper.. his interest is protestors not police tactics against protestors..
