Greece is the rightwing Red Herring I am disappointed by Preston. He is usually better then this. The first part is not bad. the latter part about Greece is a joke.
-
He's doing worse then Mcguinty. Only difference is McGuinty's word is not to be trusted. Harper has provided the highest deficits this country has ever seen. Thats worse then Trudeau and Worse then Mulroney. There are strong Provinces over the term of Consersative Government NFLD, Man, NS, Sask, to name a few doing well. Non with a Conservative Government, or none willing to use that name publicly because of the horrendous record of previous governments with Conservative in their name.
-
I will call your bluff and raise you TWO!!! I highly doubt you voted for Turner over Mulroney in both 1984 and 1988. Especially considering the size and popularity of the Mulroney Conservatives of that era. It is what they did with those 2 massive majorities that people soon became disenchanted with. As for global recession, one doesn't have to look further then the republican and centerright Democrats as to why the economic collapse occurred. JENGA! It is NeoLiberal (adopted and supported by this Conservative Government) that creates the free market era loved by those in the booming 1920s. It is the dismantling of social safetynets while pocketing the money and charging individuals more that help create conditions that lower overall standards of living. The recession is just one of many reasons. The fact is the Conservatives have chosen who will pay for the recession and who will not shoulder the burden. It is idealogically driven. It is an economic theory. It is proven to repeated failure because of inherit flaws. Running up deficits is something Conservatives do. High big ticket purchases and little benefit to Canadian Society but great if you are well connected.

A sane person would go insane trying to figure out the logic of one who is not sane.

I sense alot of dark humour happening..

Sorry but the its the Conservatives and Conservative Budgets. Excessive Spending, Combined with Tax Cuts and revenue reductions = DEFICIT. Conservatives history is to run up the debt.. its in their blood.
-
Harper was oblivous to events surrounding him and once hit with the cold hard economic facts, ignored everything. Had he been given free reign for his idealogical drive, there is little doubt he would have lead the country into the same Republican mess south of the border. I don't think Harpers brought us through anything, he has just been along for the ride. It is the highest deficit in Canadian History. The Government spends like a drunken sailor on things it wants and doesn't need.
-
Sometimes its bites them in the butt. Turner got royally burned... You had a choice as Mulroney successfully debated. Ofcourse Lying Brian has now been surpassed by Harper.
-
Oh, I mistakenly thought it was Harper who said he was not going to touch Old Age Pensions and securities. See, while he has been attacking things like EI and other services that we pay into, he has been very busy lining up free rides for his failed candidates. Perhaps you can use your time more wisely collecting notes on the current federal government. There is enough entitlement there to last this term without breaking a sweat.

Tougher punishment for career criminals
madmax replied to Signals.Cpl's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Could train them to do your job for free. That would be perfect, then you could find work elsewhere. No more high salaries and pension plans for our civil servants such as you. Abd we can get more hours f work and no holiday distruptions. -

Cuba has harsh prisons. You would like it there. So does Syria, Egypt, Iran. You probably know the Afghan prisons fail to meet Iraq high standards. China also has terrbile prisons. But the US has nice shiney private prisons and the highest incarceration rate in the world. I hear Conrad Black doesn't like them even though he didn't suffer much. Have a nice trip to Norway. And find the imperfect crime, you want to get caught. BTW we won't miss you here... I am sure you will have full internet access with your spa. -
I prefer this title ...... Kelly McParland: Running for the Tories means never needing EI http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/05/28/kelly-mcparland-running-for-the-tories-means-never-needing-ei/ Not a lot of light between liberal anc conservative patronage.

The goal of any low income housing is to MIX the tenants with Low, medium and high incomes in order to NOT create a ghetto. Most neighbours don't want low income housing and many people of means never would want to live in low income housing as they are not always infatuated with the tenants. I dare challenge anyone to go and pay more money to live in a project. I could just imagine what it would be like for a councillor to live in one of these areas. I am sure there was always a story or two from the tenants. There is something to be said with living with those of lesser means. I do like how the cheap shots continue. Jack Layton was a man who changed they way we think. I think it was good, but its likely never to be repeated. But thats petty politics at work. Its a very successful tactic. Kinda like this thread and the one with Toews. Only Toews wants to look into peoples everyday life and computer systems. In Mulcairs case, he reported to the commissionaire who doings. People can judge as they wish. It is an interesting observation and I hope its party of the Conservative Attack Campaign.

Conservatives say Professional Agitators behind the RoboCalls Legal fight. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/tories-say-professional-agitators-behind-robo-calls-legal-fight/article2443180/comments/ A very desperate argument. I doubt the courts will toss out the case based on this strategy. There could be many other ways to rule on the 7 ridings, but the Conservatives sound desperate. I was amused by this comment. “Unlike the epithets thrown at their political opponents, we aren’t being accused of being Nazi sympathizers, or terrorists, or being on the side of the child pornographers,” he said. “I only wish the Conservatives had put as much time and effort into their investigation of the robo-calls scandal as they’ve put into chastising the Council of Canadians.”

I support their right to vote to form a Union. Which would require a Majority Vote. You have the right to Decertify a Union also majority vote. I believe in human rights but I cannot opt out of the decisions by the democratically elected federal government which governs with less then 40% support. I cannot opt out to pay taxes to this government. I have no idea how an employee could opt out of negotiated clean air & ventilation. As for legislative safe working conditions.... Good lord man, I would rather sit down with a Union and work out safe conditions then have someone bureaucrat from the MOL show up and start making decisions for the company. That my friend...can often be a nightmare that ticks off everyone involved. Employees are the ones who know their jobs better then anyone else. Employers are the ones sitting on the liablility hotseat. While some employers are very clued into their operations.... many are not and have no idea what risks are being taken or even worse, what solutions a government official can cone up with. Communication is the key to increasing workplace performance and safety. Dictatorships often are ruled with an iron fist, but many times they are inefficient, have high turnover, poorer quality, but are able to operate through some shrewd business deals. That means they are only good at one portion of their business and can improve. I also find similar conditions in monopoly/Oligopoly power. Most businesses are essentially dictatorships, monopolies or oligopolies. Small business often being the exception, but they also have the closest communications to their workforce.

And then again, if its these antics that start putting tutions across the country back into perspective where students are subject to a Debt sentence after graduating then who knows...perhaps others will benefit without having to fight for it. Even if the Students fail to achieve their goal of lower tutions, its set the tone to other students that you have to do SOMETHING (not necessarily strike) but something to get governments to put tuitions back to an affordable level. As its well over 100days, I cannot see the Quebec government budging. Yet I don't see a rise in the fortunes of any opposition party on this specific issue.

Etobicoke Centre By-election (possibly)
madmax replied to Newfoundlander's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Possible, but hard to say, this riding is lower then the Provincial Average for the NDP and nearly double the Provincial average for the Liberals. It has never had an NDP MP but historically trends between Liberal and Conservative/Progressive Conservative. This is Harpers Riding to lose. And it wouldn't be surprising to see Liberal rebound in the GTA as it is the only region of the Province where there is still some LPC strength. I can't see this By Election as being anything but an CPC/LPC fight. I see an outcome like Vaughn only in reverse.
