The few myopic posters here aside, Alberta isn't seperating simply because - they do not want to. I lived there for 11 years. Some of the most proud Canadians I have ever met. What the law states and what happens in practice are not the same. If your friend was thrown in jail for simple posession of a small amount or marijuana other charges must have been involved. If you smoke pot in Canada and do it your own home and don't drive high, it already is virtually legal. What's the big deal? Smoke all you want, why do you insist on publicizing it? They also reduced payroll taxes. Why does everyone skip that? Payroll taxes are an inpediment to hiring new staff and also affect productivity. EI premiums to drop 10 cents on the emplyer side and 7 cents on the employee side. Another 10 billion to be paid toward the debt as well. What's not to like? I also think having Cannon there signifies that the full budget in the spring will be another round of tax measures and some focus on the Infrastructure.
